When Shining Armor and Princess Cadance had blasted the changelings away with their love, they had landed in a distant land filled with loving kittens. Regaining their strength, the changelings planned the kidnapping of Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo to lure Twilight Sparkle so Chrysalis could feed off of her magic. Unfortunately, magic is not an emotion, thus she could not take Twilight's magic. Twilight defeated Chrysalis and had the changelings trapped in a castle. Said castle had since been turn into a maximum security prison shortly after Celestia had learned of what had happened. Everything from meals to housing had been prepared for the shape-shifting prisoners. Still, the changeling queen yearned for her and her people to be free again. Fate would give them just this. Using Twilight's love of books against her, the changelings forced their way out of the prison once the door had been opened.
The queen led her subject to a familiar location, a mountain full of caves. It was from this location that they had planned the invasion during the royal wedding.
"My queen, what are we doing back here?" a drone asked.
"We...." Chrysalis looked up to see none other than Princess Twilight Sparkle coming for them. The wicked queen chuckled to herself. "Well, this is quite the development. Do not attack. I'll take care of her."
The young princess landed in front of the entire swarm of changelings, horn charged and ready. To her surprise however, the mutant bugs cleared a path straight to the queen.
"Hello again princess." Chrysalis greeted confidently.
"I'm not in the mood for games Chrysalis, you're coming back with me." Twilight snapped.
The queen tsked. "You're in no position to be making demands, princess."
"I don't know if you noticed, But I'm powerful enough to take on you and you're army."
Chrysalis chuckled. "But you'd rather not fight. Really princess, I don't know who you're fooling." Twilight keep her exterior despite the shake in confidence. "Very well then, come with me, we'll do it your way. We'll talk like civil people."
The changeling queen flew up to the highest cave in the mountain with the alicorn following her. A large vanity mirror at the opposite side of the cave greeted them as they entered.
"Is that yours?" Twilight asked with a snort.
"It is, I brought it here with me when we were plotting the Canterlot invasion. I still can't believe somepony would just throw it away." the queen replied as she walked towards it and gazed at her reflection.
"How nice." Twilight spat, "I suppose you're going to tell me I shouldn't waste my time trying to stop you next time you strike."
The large changeling turn and scowled at her. "All we want is life. Every time we try, we are defeated and captured like common criminals. Even at your brother's wedding, we were going to live quietly among you ponies, blending in unnoticed. But you interfered and forced my hoof."
"If that's what you want, why take such a forceful approach? You goal can be achieved with a little diplomacy."
"You think any creature alive wants to live alongside us?" Chrysalis asked laughing.
"You'd be surprised. We ponies share Equestria with cows, mules, donkeys, zebras and many other sapient creatures." Twilight replied.
The changeling queen paused, a thoughtful look plastered on her face. But it quickly twisted by to the original scowl. "We have built a reputation as a race of people to be feared."
"You can change that."
"After all these years! No we can't! Besides, even if Celestia gives us the chance, we wouldn't want to live in such a place of such mediocre origin."
"Says the queen who came from a tree. Honestly, how can anypony fear your when your origins are so ridiculous? And what about your life story? All it is is you and your changelings trying to conquer an civilization, failing to do so, and getting imprisoned for it only to escape only to repeat the process. It's insane."
"It's all we can do!"
"Why? Because you were born that way? Well I have news for you. That doesn't mean you have to STAY that way."
Chrysalis went wide eyed in shock. Twilight could see the old queen was trying to comprehend what she had just said. After a moment, Chrysalis chucked.
"Maybe you're right, Twilight Sparkle. Maybe I don't have to stay this way. Maybe ponies and changelings can live side by side in harmony. But it's my choice, isn't it. But right now, I'd rather be the most infamous queen who ever lived. GUARDS!"
Before a single drone could respond. Twilight burst into a blinding light.
