A small dove feather floated down from the sky and traveled through the breeze until it finally landed on the hoof of a grey mare with bubbles on her flank and golden mane and eyes of which were crossed, who then proceeded to pick up the feather and placed it in a book inside a small suitcase before closing both shut. Soon after a large carriage carrying multitudes of ponies stopped and let somepony off and drove off while the pony sat on the bench the gray mare was sitting on, the latter smiling and saying,
“Hello, my names Derpy, Derpy Hooves.” She said and grabbed a small basket of muffins beside her and offered the other pony one, “Want a Muffin?”
The pony beside her said a kind “no thank you.” And Derpy politely put the basket away before saying,
” I can eat about a billion and a half of these. My momma always said life was like a basket of muffins, you never know what you’re gonna get.” Then proceeded to eat one. She then noticed the ponies Glasses and said, “Those must be very comfortable Glasses. I bet you could read all day with glasses like those.”
“My head hurts.” The pony said politely trying not to be rude and continued reading a magazine He had with him.
“My Momma always said you can tell a lot about a pony by their glasses, where they were what they’ve read. I’ve worn lots of Glasses…..I think if I try really hard I can remember my first pair of Glasses. Momma said they were my magic Eyes.”
Derpy sat on a doctors chair eyes closed in fear of being hurt by the new things on her face but once the doctor said she could open her eyes she was surprised she could see, if only a little bit.
“Well Mrs. Hooves, her eyes are strong but her muscles are crooked than a politician.” The doctor said.
“Well I thank you doctor for helping my little filly.” Derpy’s mom said until her young one triped over a Table leg and fell.
It was after their meeting with the doctor that Derpy and her mother were walking back home when suddenly Derpy tripped again and lost her glasses on the sidewalk and scrambled for them. Then noticing they were being stared at Derpy’s mom said,” whats wrong haven’t you ever seen a mare with glasses before?” then walked off.
As soon as they were home Derpy’s mom said,” now you listen to me Derpy, don’t let anypony tell you you are different. You’re the same as everypony else.”
When it came time for Derpy to go to school the principle suggested to send Derpy to a Special school, which she wouldn't have any of it and when the bus came a few days later, Derpy was a little scared but then once at school her first class was with a very kind Stallion who had them call him Mr. Turner, and once he started class Derpy couldn't get enough of school and there were days she stayed after school to learn more and the stallion was more than happy to teach her. From then on Derpy and Mr. Turner, who was comfortable enough to have her call him Doctor, were inseparable. But one day, after Derpy was finished with school, her friend had to leave.
“Doctor? Where are you going?” Derpy asked as she stepped inside his small blue box of a house.
“i..i have to leave for a while Derpy. But don’t worry you’ll see me again.” The Doctor said.
“When?” Derpy asked.
“I…I don’t know.” He said sadly. But then smiled again, ”but I’ll be back before you know it.”
“You promise?” she asked.
“I promise.” He said.
“Here…I want you to have this.” She said and handed him a small locket with a picture of him and her in it. The pendant was shaped like his cutie mark combined with hers, an hourglass wrapped in bubbles.
“Derpy…I…I don’t know what to say..Thank you.” He said smiling and slightly tearing up.
“you’re welcome doctor.” She said and hugged him, “I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too. Well I better get going.” He said and smiled whipping his tears and walked her to the exit of his house. As soon as she was out they looked at each other and smiled.
“Goodbye doctor, I love you.” She said simply but meant it.
The doctor was surprised at this but said smiling, “I love you too Derpy.” he then nodded and closed the door and the sound of air through a tube sounded around the area and the house disappeared.
As the years went by Derpy got various jobs around the world until finally she ended up and stayed in Ponyville where she got a job as a mail carrier. On her first day she was a bit clumsy and had trouble getting the mail to the right ponies but after a few tries she got it right and was doing a great job even though she messed up once in awhile. Then she got a letter herself from an old friend she hadn’t heard from in a long time.
Derpy,
I'm on my way back and I thought I'd let you know before I arrive. I see you got yourself a job. That’s Great! You'll have to tell me about it when I arrive.
Hope to see you soon.
Doctor.
At this Derpy was so happy to see her old friend again she finished her work for the day quickly and rushed home and waited. Then that very familiar sound came to her ears and she raced outside to see the doctor’s box house and hugged him as he exited the door.
“I told you I’d be back.” the Doctor said.
“I missed you so much!!” Derpy said crying happily.
“I missed you too. Look I got you something.” He said and fished into his pocket and pulled out a bubble tube and wand.
“Bubbles!!” Derpy said and took the bottle and wand with glee.
“I remember you and I used to do this all the time when you were little.” He said.
“Thank you I love it.” Derpy said and hugged him again. Then she proceeded to open the bottle and blow some bubbles.
