The Life of Jekkel the Blue Dragon
The Newbie Unicorn
Load Full StoryJekkel yawned and stretched as he awoke in his bed next to Celestia's. He had lived with the two Princess Sisters for a millennium at least, keeping them safe and having fun while doing it; he fought beasts and villains that got into the castle, flew around and patrolled with the Royal Guard, and he also sat next to Celestia and Luna during Day Court or Night Court. It was sad that Luna went bonkers and fought Celestia, because not only had he lost his activities in the night court, he lost his BFF. His life was sweet nonetheless, but there was one flaw; Prince Blueblood.
He hated Prince Blueblood because of how stuck-up he was, how disrespectful he was, and how he insulted him and anypony that was what he called a 'peasant'. Just thinking of him got the blue dragon agitated. Prince Blueblood didn't deserve to be Prince, let alone have castle to live in.
Jekkel was cut out of his angry thoughts as the door to Celestia's room opened and revealed a small, lavender Unicorn filly with her hair cut straight. He didn't recognize the filly and wondered why she was there. Then he saw a white wing drape over the Unicorn and he then saw Celestia push the rest of door open.
"Jekkel," she started and Jekkel got into a prideful stance, "This is Twilight Sparkle, my new protégé who will be staying here to learn and experience the art of magic."
Jekkel eyed Twilight Sparkle very closely, and then asked in a low tone, "What did she do to catch your eye?"
"Well, when a Sonic Rainboom happened," Jekkel raised an eyebrow, "She was surprised during the exam that I had going down in the study room and used an abundance of energy I've never seen in a Unicorn before. She has a lot of potential, and is very smart."
Jekkel looked back down at the filly and smiled as warmly as he could, saying, "Welcome to the castle, Ms. Sparkle. I am Jekkel, as you may know, and I am the pet of the princess sisters Celestia and Luna, but they prefer to call me their BFF. I protect those who are in the castle as much as I can, and now that you're in the castle, I'll protect you too." He finished, bowing his head in respect of the little filly.
Twilight blushed a little, not used to having that said to her at all.
Celestia smiled and signaled Twilight to follow her to the dining hall. Jekkel followed too, of course.
As he, Twilight, and Celestia walked through the hallway, Jekkel asked Twilight, "You must be really smart and powerful to catch the princess' eye. What did you do?"
Twilight smiled and replied in her little squeaky voice, "I made a purple and green dragon egg hatch! Now he's a baby dragon named Spike and he's going to be my assistant!"
Jekkel scrunched up his face and looked at Celestia, then Jekkel asked, "Why did you get another dragon, Tia?"
Celestia turned around and rolled her eyes replying, "Twilight didn't want him to be taken away and I didn't want to throw him into the wild, so we adopted him. Besides, he can be your little brother if you like."
Jekkel raised an eyebrow and decided to stay silent until he reached the dining hall to process all he had just heard.
A little brother, he thought, Seems cool, I just hope he doesn't eat all the gems during breakfeast, lunch, and dinner.
He was cut out of his thoughts when they reached the giant double doors that led into the dining hall.
They opened slowly, making a loud creeking sound as they made way for the the dragon and the two ponies.
As Jekkel peeked inside, he noticed somepony; a white coated Unicorn with a blonde mane sitting at the table, ready to eat. Prince Blueblood.
Jekkel growled and Celestia hushed him as to not frighten the little filly. Jekkel glared at Blueblood while he made his way to his seat next to the Princess.
Blueblood looked at Twilight and scoffed, saying, "Auntie Celestia, why do you have a peasant Unicorn in the castle?"
Jekkel stopped in his tracks and looked at Twilight, only to find that she was looking at the ground.
Jekkel turned to Blueblood, saying, "She is not a peasant, Blueblood. She had the power and potential to catch Celestia's eye. And if you ever, ever, do anything to hurt her feelings again, I'll make sure that you're humiliated next Day Court."
Blueblood pursed his lips and 'harrumphed'. Jekkel payed Blueblood no attention and turned to Twilight to see if she was still sad. Unfortunately, she was.
Jekkel draped a wing over her and glared at Blueblood. Jekkel was getting very angry, but smiled triumphantly as Celestia walked over and lifted the snob in the air with her magic.
"Blueblood," Celestia started, "She is my protégé and you will show respect to her. If you don't, I'll let Jekkel deal with you."
And with that, Blueblood was put back in his seat as Celestia made her way back to hers, along with Jekkel. Twilight, on the other hoof, was standing, not knowing where to go. Celestia noticed this and signaled for Twilight to sit next to her. Twilight complied and made her way over to her teacher.
A few minutes later, the food came in and was placed across the table; there were a pile of gems, cake, hay sandwiches, and other delicious foods.
Then Jekkel noticed something sitting next to Twilight; a bright purple and green baby dragon. That was probably Spike, but he wasn't sure. Spike was looking at the pile of gems with a hungry look in his eyes. Jekkel was first to get at the gems; he grabbed about ten or thirteen gems while Spike grabbed five or six, mainly because if he ate to much, he'd get a stomach ache. At least, that's what Twilight said.
They both dug into their food while the others started eating with manners. Once Jekkel was done, he noticed Spike walking over to him. This was going to be good, or bad.
"What's up, Spike?" Jekkel asked as Spike sat next to him.
Spike looked up at him and smiled, asking, "Who are you?"
Jekkel let out a loud belch and Spike burst into laughter, rolling around on the ground. Apparently, Spike's laughter was contagious and Jekkel started chuckling but soon broke into laughter and joined the baby dragon on the ground, laughing harder than he had in decades.
Wow, he thought happily, I think I'm going to enjoy Spike's company.
Once him and Spike were finished, Spike asked the question again, "Who are you, anyways?"
Jekkel looked down at him and smiled, saying "Name's Jekkel."
Spike nodded with satisfaction, and started walking back to his seat next to Twilight. But he soon was tapped on the shoulder by Jekkel and was presented with another gem; a small Emerald shaped like an apple.
Spike looked amazed as his eyes looked the Emerald up and down. Jekkel leaned in and whispered, "Don't tell Twilight, or else we'll both be in trouble."
Spike nodded and took the gem. Somehow, Spike managed to swallow the gem whole and not even choke. Jekkel just assumed the baby dragon was going to be good at eating.
"Jekkel?" Celestia asked, getting the dragon's attention, "Will you take Spike down to the Royal Archives and teach him to read and write? If it's no trouble, of course."
Jekkel smiled and replied, "Oh, it's no trouble at all, Tia."
And with that, he signaled Spike to follow him down to the Archives where he'd be taught to read and write.
