Message to Monsters
Morning
Load Full StoryThe sun rises past the horizon, as a new day presents itself in the land of Equestria. The birds chirp through the town of Ponyville, wakening those in slumber to make new adventures and start new experiences. As others awaken, one was already up; Derpy, a grey pony with a cutie mark of bubbles, long yellow hair, and yellow eyes that glimmers like the sun. Thought there is one thing that makes her different than other ponies. She has a disorder, her eyes being crossed, one being slightly up and the other being straight.
She stood by the dining table, readying the breakfast she just cooked for Dinky and herself. She cooked haycakes with a side of apple slices, and a cup of apple juice. She placed the plates on the red cloth of the table, taking the food she cooked and placing it on the plate.
"I hope Dinky likes the breakfast I made, today I made it extra special", Derpy thought out loud.
Finishing the preparations, she went upstairs to wake dinky up. Opening the door, she saw dinky sound asleep, the sunlights rays coming through the window and illuminating her bed in the dark room. Dinky has a yellow mane just like her mother, with eyes to match, her coat being lavender. Derpy looks at her daughter, happy to know that her daughter slept peacefully through the night. Dinky was kinda afraid to go to sleep due to the phase anyone goes through: continuous nightmares. Makes Derpy worried thinking about it, taking the matter as serious as her parents once did.
Dinky would tell Derpy that there was monsters under her bed, and it would shake her bed as she was asleep. One time Dinky cried for Derpy, waking her up in the middle of the night. When she went to go check up on her, she saw that Dinky was crying, tugging at the blankets to keep from what believed to be under her bed from getting her. It took Derpy a few light tugs and some motherly talking to get her to release the blanket. Seeing the expression on her face worried Derpy to her core. After comforting Dinky, she let her sleep with her for the night, but she woke up hours later to Dinky talking in her sleep. Derpy now aware that she was having nightmares. A week has passed by from then, Dinky now knowing of what are called nightmares, but still experiencing them harshly throughout the night.
Derpy was at peace to know Dinky was able to sleep soundly, to her knowledge. She kinda just wanted Dinky to sleep soundly throughout the day, but being a mom she knew she couldn't allow that. Derpy walked her way to Dinky's bed, placing a hoof gently on the back of Dinky, lightly pushing on her.
"Wakey-wakey hay and... Um; Breakfast" she transposed.
After a few nudges Dinky started slowly getting up. Her adorably rubbing her eyes as she teared up from the sunlight.
"Morning Dinky." Derpy said smiling brightly.
"Morning mom." Dinky said, returning the smile.
"Breakfast is done, come down when you're ready." Derpy said before making her way downstairs.
Derpy started enjoying her breakfast before Dinky made her way down, when she did Derpy saw that her mane and fur were a mess. Her mane was tangled, and her fur was sticking out; Derpy was surprised she didn't see it firsthand.
Dinky sat at the table, picking up a fork and knife before cutting into the haycakes, biting into it to enjoy its sweet taste and its dry texture.
"Did you sleep well last night Dinky?" Ask Derpy.
Dinky thought about it for a second, unknowing if she had experienced the frequent nightmare or not. She felt as if she did, but was unsure of it.
"I'm not sure, I feel like i did." Dinky answered unsurely.
Dinky cut into her haycake to take another bite, Derpy doing the same to her half eaten one.
"Mom, have you been enjoying your job?"
"Yes, i love being a mailmare of ponyville."
Derpy loved her job as a mailmare. It brought her closer to the town ponies, knowing that they respect her for sending them their mail at a reasonable time.
"Have you been enjoying school lately?" Derpy asked.
Dinky answered with a nod of her head, not really bothering to tell her what has been good about it; continuing to eat her food which was starting to get cold.
Derpy finished her meal and got up to wash her dish. Going near her saddle bag she started filling it with essentials: paper, pencil, and a muffin contained in a straw box. Once she stored them she closed the saddle and packed it on her back. Dinky was done with her breakfast by the time she was done packing. Derpy retrieved her plate, cleaning it, then grabbed a comb and helped Dinky get her fur straighten. Once she was done Dinky's hair was straight and well-kept.
"Ready to go?" Derpy asked.
"Not yet" Dinky said before making her way upstairs.
When she made her way back down, she had her saddle bag full of school materials.
"Ready" assured Dinky.
As they made there way to the door, Derpy noticed she forgot something. Though as she turned to look for it she saw that Dinky had it between her lips. Dinky spoke in inaudible words as she tried saying "forgot something", Derpy understood her though. Dinky kindly put the bottle of bubble soap in Derpy's saddle bag; Derpy opening the door and allowing Dinky to go first before exiting herself, and walking her way into the town of Ponyville with her daughter by her side.
Derpy stood by the fences of Ponyvilles schoolhouse as she waved to Dinky.
"Have a nice day" Derpy shouted.
Dinky waved back before entering the building, and once Derpy saw her enter she started to make her way to her own destination. A walk around town was always a sight to Derpy, as there was always a difference, not in sight though. Felt like everyday brought on a new batch of emotions, some feeling happy, others times sad, but always something to think over. Today though, she only wanted to enjoy the peace of the morning rays on her face as she made her way to the job she loved doing.
