Scootaloos Mom
Happy Mothers Day
Load Full StoryYears ago.
It was raining this evening in Ponyville. Every pony was inside asleep, every pony except for one mare. Not only was she wearing a dark cloak, but she was carrying a basket, and in that basket was a small orange foal. Once the mare got to the house she was looking for, she set the foal down on the doorstep. When she got out the envelope that would explain everything, the foal started to cry. Not wanting to leave her baby crying, the mother sang a lullaby to put the foal back to sleep.
Hush, my lit-tle angel
You're upset, I can tell
At this point the mother started to tear up.
But you'll be safe, with this fam-il-ly
I'm so sor-ry that, you can't be with me
All of this, is benefit, to you
The foal went back to sleep, and the mother gently put the envelope on top of the child. Once she did, the mare sang the last line.
Good-bye, my little Scoot-a-loooo
Knocking on the door as hard as possible, the mare ran as fast as she could. The foal started to cry again, but had no mother to sang to her this time. It took a while until a female pegusus with a dark orange coat, red main, and an oven mitt for a cutie mark opened the door and saw the poor baby all on her own. Taking the foal inside, the mare noticed an envelope on top of the foal. Opening it, and reading the letter that was inside, the mare knew exactly what to do.
"Don't worry Scootaloo," she told the still crying foal, "i'll take care of you."
Present Day.
Scootaloo was heading right to her moms room, carrying a tray with burnt toast and orange juice. 'No way is she gonna forget this mothers day,' she thought as she got closer to the door. Setting the tray down, Scootaloo opened the door.
"SURPRISE!" she yelled, "HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!"
Her 'mom,' however, was not a happy mother at the moment. She was asleep, until her 'daughter' nearly scared her to death.
"Scootaloo, you almost gave me a heart attack," she scolded.
"You're going to forget that once you have your breakfast in bed," Scootaloo told her 'mom,' holding the tray.
"That is....so sweet of you," The 'mother' said, forgetting her anger, "Thank you so much for making me....toast."
She took one look at the food Scootaloo prepared and immediately lost her apatite. 'Doesn't she pay attention when I make meals,' the 'mother' thought. 'After all, it is my special talent.'
"Well," Scootaloo said with big puppy eyes, "Aren't ya going to try it,"
Not wanting to upset her 'daughter,' she took a bite out of the burnt bread and tried all she could not to spit it out.
"Oh, I almost forgot your card," Scootaloo said, running out of the room. Once she was gone, her 'mom' spit out the toast, washed the taste out with the orange juice, and hid the rest of her 'breakfast' under her pillow. When Scootaloo came back, she had a card in her mouth, and had a amazed look on her face.
"Wow, you ate that toast fast," she said with the card in her mouth.
"It was so delicious that I couldn't help my self," her 'mother' lied, "Hey how about I see that card."
It wasn't much of a card, but a piece of paper with a drawing on it. The drawing looked like Scootaloo and her 'mom' standing together with words on the bottom. 'To the best mom ever, from Scootaloo,' it said. Her 'mom' started to tear up, not from the sweetness of Scootaloos gift, but because of the word she chose: Mom. She doesn't even think she earns that title from time to time, and always feels guilty when Scootaloo uses it.
"Mom, are you okay?" Scootaloo asked her superposed parent.
"No," her 'mother responded as she got out of bed, "There's something I need to show you."
Scootaloo watched her 'mom' pull out a small piece of paper out of her bedside cabinet. She then gave the paper to Scootaloo.
"I was going to show you this when you were older, but I just can't take the guilt anymore," she told Scootaloo, "Go ahead, read it."
Curious on where this was going, Scootaloo read the letter.
To my friend Loven Mitt
This is my baby Scootaloo. I have given birth to her this very night, but I can't take care of her. You know exactly the reason why I can't have her with me, and it's important that you become the mother she won't have. I'm so sorry if this is an inconvenience to you, but I can't trust her with any pony else. Please, when she's older, give Scootaloo this letter so if she wants to, she can meet me.
Signed, Red Dust.
Scootaloo couldn't believe what she just read. She just stared at the letter until she decided the right words to ask.
"Your-your not my mother," she stuttered.
"Not biologically no," Loven Mitt told her, "I didn't give birth to you, but I still raised you and loved you. I just couldn't take the guilt from hiding this from you anymore. You understand right?"
"I-I made breakfast for the woman who I thought was the best mom ever," Scootaloo said as she started to tear up, "And as it turns out, she was the biggest liar ever, and my real mom is who knows where."
"Scootaloo..." but before Loven Mitt could say anything, Scootaloo started to get frustrated.
"What other secrets are you hiding from me?" she asked, "Is that your real cutie mark? Is Loven Mitt your real name? ARE YOU EVEN A PEGASUS!?"
"That's enough Scootaloo," Loven Mitt told her.
"You can't tell me what to do, BECAUSE YOUR NOT EVEN MY REAL MOM!" Scootaloo yelled as she ran out of the room.
"Scootaloo wait!" Loven Mitt called after the little filly. She chased after her, but Scootaloo was too fast. Once outside, Scootaloo hopped on her scooter, still teary eyed, and went as fast as she could. Finally getting out side, Loven Mitt saw as her ex daughter scooted away from her house.
"She'll be back," she told herself, "Where else could she go."
Author's Note
Seeing how mothers day is coming up, I decided to make the first chapter of this story earlier than I planned to.
P.S. Loven Mitt was pretty much a name that I came up with on the top of my head. Because I pretty much can't think of anything else, Loven Mitt stays.
