The Making of a NightMare
Chapter 1
Load Full Story"Oof!" said Nightmare Moon. She just felt the impact of her moon she was banished to.
'Sister?' the small part of me said as we stared back to the earth. Nightmare moon couldn't hear me. That's what happens with the dark side of yourself, you never listen to your true self. The part of you that is good on the inside.
As Nightmare Moon walked to a nearby earth civilization, I thought about my sister. 'Why would she do this to me? Does she not love me anymore? What have I done? Letting my inner emotions become controlled by this Nightmare. Could this be a bad dream? Would I really betray Equestria, or my kingdom, and my sister?'
Memories start to drift back to what I was thinking, never was I allowed to be trusted, I was known as the princess who raised the moon, though I felt unappreciated, how most ponies shunned my night, and frolicked in the day, how it was my sister that was entrusted with the important roles of a princess, while I was left within my shadows. My sister herself never even appreciated my night, she basked in the spotlight, and she too left me alone in the shadows.
Anger starts to fill me. What type of sister ignores her sibling, basks in all of the attention and never even confronts her when she needs to be with someone? Or puts her duties before her own and only family? Celestia, with her head as hot as the sun, she must be glad to have me gone, those early years as fillies must've been a lie, a dream that never or will ever come true.
'Celestia.' I say in disgust. Some sister she was, never really caring about me only her precious sun and her oh, so precious subjects.
What am I saying? Of course my subjects are important to me. That Nightmare must be trying to regain my power once more, I once again notice my surroundings, the moon creatures have been taken over, their figures instead of nice and colorful from giving joy to the creatures of the world, to dark, shadowy smoke figures forced to give nightmares to those they love.
I suddenly find myself battling Celestia, Nightmare Moon throwing every fear possible to her. The one thing that brings her down is my former self, saying what I had said before. I stop listening and watching, and wait until I feel fatigue to even think about Celestia.
"Hi sis."
"Hello little sister," Tia said as she looked up from raising the sun. She had just been entrusted with raising it.
"Can I help?" I asked. She chuckled.
"maybe one day, but I do not believe you're ready yet."
I felt offended. "I'm not a filly anymore, I can raise the sun just as you're able to raise the moon."
"I do not believe that it is in you're power." She simply said before turning back, ending our conversation. I run up to where she is and start to use my magic.
"Sister, stop."
I kept using it.
" Luna stop." She said turning to me. I ignored her.
"Will you stop trying to help?! You're getting in the way." Celestia said.
"I seem to always get in the way don't I? 'Luna you're too young to understand, Luna set the moon, Luna you always get in the way,' it's like you don't even need me!" I shot back.
She's quiet for a moment.
"Maybe I don't need you, the ponies all look up to me, the one who brings them the day, the one who brings them happiness, whilst you bring forth the night, it is duty, not meant for happiness, whenever you try to interfere with my day, you get in the way of my duty, to bring happiness to my subjects. No pony is as loved as I, no other pony is meant to bring forth the day, bring forth happiness, and you only intervene. Now I wish to be alone, where I can bring forth my day in peace." Celestia said, anger on her voice.
She turned her focus to the sun, whilst I just flew away, gliding on the winds of her precious day, the thing that gives her fame, it made me sick to think about the oh so precious sun, with it's piercing heat, and it's blinding light. Whilst the night brings cool winds, the land a much more beautiful shade than any blue skies the sun brings. The stars that light up the night, the purples and blues that spread across Celestia's My precious land as her my precious subjects and ponies sleep through the beauty of it all. No pony will ever understand my night as much as I do, no one will ever understand it's beauty, no pony. But I'll make them understand my struggles of bringing forth the night. No matter what it possibly takes.
I remember. This is the day I assumed that no pony will ever appreciate me. That the world would have to live in darkness to truly appreciate what I provide for it. But still a long time before I became the nightmare I am, now striking fear in the hearts of many, I can still remember turning into it. How my emotions were fully taken over by this Nightmare I was trapped in.
My door was locked, outside of it Celestia was banging against it. I hadn't walked out of it in days.
"Luna, sister, you must come out, you haven't stepped hoof out of your room in days."
'Nights.' I think. "Never shall I come out to a such fiend!'
"Luna you must fulfill your duty to your subjects." She said.
"You mean those perfect little ponies of yours?"\
She hesitates.
"I meant our subjects Luna, and your duty must be fulfilled, it is not my place to understand it."
"Like you'd ever understand anything about me, you'd never understand my night." I say, tears seeping through my eyes.
"As you said, you don't need me, I only get in the way, like there's only meant to be one ruler of Equestria!" I scream.
She had with that, she blew open my door.
"I guess there is, but you still have a duty o fulfill, and it is not my own."
"You're right, for you only care about yourself, you'd never be in the right position to understand the night, to understand ME!!!!!"
I stomped on the ground with both hooves, sadness replaced by anger, and threw the door at blinding speed back into it's place.
Within the next few years, I hardly talked to Celestia without a bitter edge in my voice, her light colored mane, fur, day, it all disgusted me. Finally, during the day, I approached Celestia and raised the beautiful vibrant moon in the sun's place. It was from then on that I became a Nightmare, trapped within a realm of shadows, and never saw my sister since.
'That's how I let my full dark side take over, where I let my emotions endanger my subjects and kingdom. I am not fit to be a princess.'
"Oh but you are",She said.
'You!' I scream 'You're the reason why I'll never be loved, if nopony before loved me, I'll never be loved now.' I start to sob.
"You and you're night are simply misunderstood. If you continue with this, you won't only get the affection... but you'll be queen. She laughed evilly.
'I no longer wish to be apart of this, I wanted to be appreciated, not strike fear into the hearts of many. I didn't realize that I was important, or that I had a big role. I was ungrateful for what I had when there are those who wish to have been put into my shoes. I don't want anyone else to get hurt.' I say boldly as I stare the Nightmarish form in the face.
She frowns. "You think that those subjects of yours care for you? They don't and they never will. Don't believe me? Look for yourself. She said gesturing to the cauldron. It showed ponies fearing my night, having dreams of kind shadowy figures and choose to change to day.
'It can't be true.' I say boldly.
She frowns once more. "Obviously this won't work. She walked me to the cauldron where she willingly used dark magic to injure the ponies and creatures.
'NO!!!!' I shout. She stops and smirks.
"If you fail to continue this mission," The cauldron then shows Celestia.
'No!!!' I shout already giving in. I fall to my knees,' I'll do whatever you want.'
She laughs an evil wicked laugh.
