Soarin was more focused on his pen rolling around Spitfire’s desk than what she was saying. He had been called to her office for some reason, not very sure why, Spitfire just wanted to talk to him.
“So, are you up for it?” she asked.
Soarin’s head shot up, confusion painted across his face.
“Uh, what?”
Spitfire rolled her eyes.
“Were you even listening,” she didn’t even need a reply to know he wasn’t, “I need you to go talk to a class in Ponyville about inspiration!”
“Oh, sure I’m up for it.” He smiled. Spitfire sighed in relief.
“Thanks Soar, I owe you one,” as he got up to leave, he turned to face her.
“Why can’t you do it again?”
Spitfire’s face was full of fear.
“Um, no reason!” she quickly answered.
Soarin shrugged it off and headed to his room to work on his presentation.
‘So, inspiration, what inspires me?’ he thought, a pen in his mouth. “Well, what inspired me to be is easy.’ He wrote it down. ‘Well, that’s done. Better prepare for tomorrow.’
Soarin practised his speech in the mirror. Constantly, preparing himself, it wasn’t hard, he just read what he had written, everything made sense.
“Uh, Soarin?” Spitfire called from outside his room.
“Yeah?” he asked, opening the door.
“Well, you missed breakfast, and, you’re late!” she yelled angrily.
“What? But, but!”
“Considering I owe you one, I saved you a biscuit.” She passed him a small biscuit shaped as a teddy. Soarin raised an eyebrow at this. “What? It’s all that was left, now get a move on!”
“Okay fine,” he groaned, biting into the biscuit, which actually tasted pretty good, not as good as pie though.
Soarin finally landed on earth pony ground, he gulped on the last crumb of his biscuit. He looked around, he was shocked at the fact the majority of colours were pink and white, why not some blue?
Soarin shook away his thoughts, concentrating on where to find the Ponyville school house. After a while, he found himself lost in an orchid.
“Wait, I’m pretty sure I’m looking for a school house, not an apple farm.” Soarin said to himself.
“Uh, what are you doin’ here sir?” asked a southern accent. He turned to see three fillies, the pony who spoke was yellow with a pink bow tying her red hair, another a white unicorn with a curly purple and pink mane, the last one had a huge grin on her orange face, the pegasus had a short pink mane, her wings buzzing.
“Oh, sorry, I’m just looking for Ponyville school house.” Soarin said. “Um, is your friend okay?” he asked, pointing at the pegasus.
“Omigosh! Omigosh! Omigosh!” The pegasus cried. “You’re Soarin! From the Wonderbolts!”
Soarin was shocked at this. But it wasn’t as shocking as she was a pegasus, and the majority of Wonderbolt fans were pegasi.
“Soarin? You mean that guy at the wedding?” The unicorn asked.
“Yeah! Oh right,” the pegasus realized he was lost. “I’m Scootaloo; this is Apple Bloom and Sweetiebelle. We’re heading to school.”
“You don’t mean Ponyville School House do you?” Soarin asked.
The three nodded.
“We can take you with us if you want.” Apple Bloom offered.
“Sure,”
“So, do you know Rainbow Dash?” Scootaloo asked eagerly.
Soarin didn’t answer; he hadn’t thought of that mare in ages, any mention of her still made his heart stop.
“Uh, yeah.” He blushed, though the fillies didn’t notice.
“She’s picking me up later today; she’s a really good flying teacher, probably the best ever! Why isn’t she a Wonderbolt yet?”
Soarin shrugged. It was true Rainbow Dash was a talented flyer, why wasn’t she on the team?
“So why ya here?” Apple Bloom asked.
“I’m here to give a speech in front of your class.”
“Oh, this should be interesting!” Sweetiebelle piped.
Soarin laughed as the three fillies galloped towards the school house. A purple-pink mare greeted them as they went inside.
“Oh, you must be Soarin, I’m Cheerilee. Your speech isn’t scheduled until 2:30, you can come back then.”
“Okay cool,”
Soarin wondered through Ponyville, still making sure he kept track of where the school house was. He retraced his steps back to Sweet Apple Acres. He smiled when he saw the same orange pony from the Gala pushing out a tray of Apple Pies.
“Hey, can I have one?” Soarin asked.
“Sure, that’ll be three bits.” She said in her southern accent. “Hey, I remember you; you’re that Wonderbolt who bought my pie from the Gala.”
“Yup!”
“Well, I’m Apple Jack, here ya go,” she said passing him one of the pies as he did the bits. “What’s your name Sugar Cube? I only heard of one Wonderbolt called ‘Soarin’.”
“That’s me, how’d you know?”
“My friend keeps talking about the Wonderbolts, but mostly about you.”
Soarin was quite shocked at this news, what was so interesting about him?
“Matter a fact,” she continued, “she’s comin’ round here in any second now. Her names Rainbow Dash,”
Soarin dropped his pie at the sound of her name, before it hit the ground though; the very mare swooped down and saved it before it hit the ground. As her magenta eyes looked up, she chuckled.
“Ain’t this da ja vu?” she laughed, holding the pie in her hooves. Soarin was too shocked to speak, luckily the Apple Jack stepped in.
“Howdy RD, ready for the rainfall?”
“Sure AJ,” Rainbow said, dashing off.
“I hope she covers the whole field this time.” Apple Jack said, heading inside, completely oblivious to Soarin, whose head was suffocating in pie.
“Okay class, today Mr. Skies here will give a presentation about inspiration.”
Soarin walked into the class room, the students cheering, and the majority of them jumping in their seats.
“Hey kids, so, what really inspires you guys?”
A couple hands flew up. One of them being Scootaloo’s, which happened to be the one he picked.
“Yes Scootaloo?”
“Rainbow Dash!” she cheered, some of the over ponies nodding in agreement, others rolling their eyes. Soarin however smiled at the ceiling, as if he was watching the very mare fly into the sky, her mane flowing in the wind, graceful yet skilful.
“Yeah,” he muttered, "Who wouldn't be inspired by her? Her rainbow mane catches the wind perefeclty, her cyan coat couldn't be matched exactly by any artist, or rainbow creator, oh, don't get me started on her Sonic Rainboom, only one of her amazing stunts. Her raspy voice holds such personality, an exact replica to what her very soul is. She is the most awesome, spectacular, super, amazing, beautiful, loyal, coolest living thing in the universe. But most of all, her eyes, the most unique shade of magenta, they hold stubbornness, beauty, personality, loyalty, if only they could look at me...filled with the same emotion I felt for her since she first saved my life."
Soarin looked back at the foals, he hadn't noticed how loud he had spoken. Each foal and Cheerilee had a look of shock on their faces, except for Sweetiebelle who was smiling brightly.
"Awww, how romantic." She said, just then the bell rang, the foals eagerly collected their things, mostly because they thought his speach was sappy. Scootaloo and Sweetiebelle waited for Soarin, Apple Bloom having to go do some chores.
"That was a really inspirational speech mister." She piped, "Now I know why some colts get nervous, I think." After shaking his hoof, she merrily skipped off into town, on her way to visit her sister. Scootaloo eyed Soarin suspiciously, that was until she heard a rustle in the bushes. The two looked over to see Rainbow Dash, wearing a nervous smile.
"Hey, Soarin, Scoots." She said, not making eye contact with the stallion.
Scootaloo raced over to her, wrapping her hooves around her, the made returning the embrace.
"Hi Dash!" She cried. "One sec, I left my scooter behind the school."
"I'll be here." The filly then raced behind the building, leaving the two ponies alone.
"I heard your speech," she blushed. "I never knew you felt that way,"
"Sorry, I know its sort of stupid, but I do really mean every word I said."
"Don't worry about, I, sort of like you too."
Soarin's ears perched up at what she just said.
"Gee, don't know why but I'll take your word for it."he smiled.
" Maybe we could hang out some time?" She asked, looking up at him.
"Sure,"
"Cool, I mean awesome, I mean, sounds great?" She slapped her face in frustration. The orange filly came around, oblivious to their conversation.
"Ready, should we get going?" The filly asked, her wings buzzing with excitement.
"Sure, see ya Soar," Rainbow smiled, she followed the filly down the path and out of sight.
Soarin couldn't think of anything else that day, he had finally had his chance with her, he was not going to waste it.
Author's Note
A quick story, I actually came up with the idea when I was biking yesterday. All I could really think of was if Soarin ever worshipped a pie. Then I thought what if Rainbow Dash became the official pie rescuer or something, then this happened.
Oh and I am really unsure about this cause I got sorta confused, so I'm not so sure I'll do a 2nd.
Also whoever knows why Spitfire doesn't wanna go to the school house gets a cookie!
