Why I Want to Become a Wonderbolt
Dear Journal,
Everypony has been wondering or has asked me one thing: “Why do you want to become a wonderbolt, Rainbow Dash?” That question has always occurred whenever I inform ponies that I’m going to an event featuring the Wonderbolts or while I’m in a deep conversation and I happen to bring up the Wonderbolts any chance I get.
Some other ponies think I’m just obsessed. I can assure you, I’M NOT!
D-do I really talk about them that much? I don’t mean to, honest! It’s just that becoming a Wonderbolt is really important to me. I bet you’re asking yourself, “Why? Why is it so important to you, Rainbow?”
Well, actually, it all began when I was a little filly in Cloudsdale...
A ten year Rainbow Dash was in the Cloudsdale stadium, watching a local air hockey game. The crowd cheered when a young colt named Compass Star made the puck into the goal. Rainbow stomped her hooves on the section of the bleacher that she was sitting on, happy that one of the kids in her class had scored.
The booming noise of the stadium ceased due to the announcer being ready to speak. “Aaaand Compass Star has it, beating Silverwing 13-12!”
“Woo hoo,” Rainbow Dash cheered.
“And now, fillies and gentlecolts," the announcer began, his voice booming out of the megaphone speakers. "Please, stomp your hooves together for..."
Rainbow's eyes began to grow wide, nearly coming out of their sockets. A big smile spread across her face, her anticipation getting the better of her.
"The Wonderbolts!"
The crowd cheered once a trio of pegasi came flying across the stadium sky. Two stallions flew on each side while a mare flew in the center.
“So awesome,” Rainbow Dash said, almost in awe.
Stomping hooves and vibrating bleachers took over the entire arena. The young filly put a little flag in her mouth, waving it in the air. She looked up at the three of them, however, her attention was on only one of the three flying pegasi.
A pegasus stallion with a light purple coat and rainbow mane and tail looked down at the crowd. His eyes searched until he saw whom he was looking for. A little filly waving a little flag, excited and happy. The stallion smiled, giving the little salute, before bringing his attention back to the routine..
The little Rainbow Dash grinned, her eyes closing shut, taking in every single little moment that she was experiencing. She just couldn’t wait until the show was over.
Rainbow Blaze was outside of the stadium. Every pony who was at the game had already gone home. There were the occasional "Oh, may we get a picture with you," ponies, but not many.
He was one of the most famous and well-known Wonderbolts in Equestria. He had won many awards, and had met many other famous ponies. Although, he still thought himself as just an ordinary pegasus.
Still in his Wonderbolts uniform, he rested his hoof on his goggles, sliding them away from his face and toward the top of his head. As soon as they no longer were over his eyes, he heard a pair of wings flapping toward him.
"Dad!"
Rainbow Blaze turned toward the direction where the voice came from. He smiled and opened his arms wide.
"Dash," he exclaimed in return.
The filly flew into his chest, her hooves wrapping around his torso. "You were amazing, dad! You guys were the best part of the whole entire game!"
Her father chuckled, embracing his daughter. "Awe, thanks kid," he responded.
The two of them let go of their embrace. Both their wings flapping in the breeze, now flying steadily across the sky.
"Hey, dad, when do think I'll be good enough to become a Wonderbolt?
Rainbow Blaze gave her a small smile. "Well, if you keep practicing your flying skills, I'm sure, when you get older, you'll be a great member of the Wonderbolts."
Rainbow Dash smiled and nodded.
"But remember," he said, a serious look and tone coming across. "Being a Wonderbolt is not all about fun and games," he explained. "You have to train every week. With every week you train, you give it your all.
Rainbow Dash titled her head, curious.
"Being a Wonderbolt is also about having the ability to lead. Us Wonderbolts are responsible for helping to defend and protect Equestria from any harm, alongside the Princesses and their guards. It's serious business. Keep that in mind."
She took in every word that her father had spoken to her. It was what she had learn from that day and from that day forward, that she would remember most...
He was my biggest inspiration for wanting to become a Wonderbolt. My dad wasn't just a father. No, he was a leader.
My father, Rainbow Blaze, was one of the greatest Wonderbolts who ever lived. He was loyal to all of his fellow Wonderbolts. He became just as famous as some of the members of the E.U.P. Probably even as well-known as General Firefly, Admiral Fair Weather, Corneal Purple Dart, maybe even Commander Easy Glider.
They never abandoned him when he needed them, and he certainly didn't abandon them when it needed him. Same with Equestria.
I wouldn't have had made it into the Wonderbolts Reserves if it (partially) weren't for him.
I know my father would be so proud of me for making it this far. I know when--if I actually do make it into the Wonderbolts, I will do my best to keep his word alive. I will do whatever it takes to keep his legacy live on for as long as I live.
My father will always be in my memory. And I'm sure he'll be in everypony else's. He will never be forgotten. Being a member was a part of his life. And soon… it will be a part of mine.
After all, he lives in me. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
