Little, Lost Child
Chapter One ~ Alone
Load Full StoryIt was a stormy night. Hail pounded down on the dirt roads of Manehatten, and the rain was heavier than it had been in a long time. The sound of bombs, screaming, and crying blasted at every home. Ponies were locked inside, afraid of the war. This whole war had started because of the different races of ponies. Pegasi, unicorns, and earth ponies all alike just couldn't get along. At this time, Discord was controlling Equestria, as well, which made it three times worse. However, in Manehatten, there was one family who just had a foal. They named her Sylvia, and she was a pegasus. She had a shining, soft silver mane and tail. Sylvia also had light lilac eyes, like her mother. Her father was a tall stallion who had a grey mane and white coat. He was also a pegasus. Her mother had lilac eyes, a light orange mane, and a white coat, who was also a pegasus. It was only three weeks after her birth when the war began. There was a knock on their door.
"Hello?" Her father asked.
It was Commander Hurricane of the Pegasus Army. "Are you Mr. Skies?" That was the family's last name. So, in other words, Sylvia Skies would be her name. Her mother's name was Sunny Skies and her father was Bramble Skies.
"Yes, sir." Bramble answered.
Hurricane replied, "You are needed as a recruit for the Pegasus Army. We ask of you to leave immediately at dawn."
"On such short notice? Commander Hurricane, I have a wife and newborn foal, I can't just..." He was cut off.
"I'll have you know loads of stallions have already left their families to defend them and their kind. You are no different. We expect to see you at dawn, Skies." Hurricane demanded.
"Yes, sir..." Bramble closed the door after he flew off.
Sunny looked at her husband and asked, "Is everything alright?" Sunny was sitting on a rug on the floor. She had Sylvia tightly locked under her wing. However, the filly was asleep.
"I've been requested to join the war..." Bramble trailed off, not wanting to say more.
She gasped, "No...how long until you leave?"
"I was told to leave at dawn, but you need to do something about Sylvia, she can't be around here. This war could go on for a long time." Bramble stated. Sunny looked out the window from the floor, and could see fire on buildings across the street. She saw soldiers marching in the roads. Sunny also saw ponies groaning in agony from wounds. After that, she looked at Sylvia under her wing, smiling in her sleep.
The mother sighed, "I know what to do. I'll just take care of her in the morning..."
"Alright, but I'd better get to bed, you too. Come on." Sunny lead the half-asleep filly up the stairs, guiding her with her wing so she wouldn't trip. Sunny decided to sleep in Sylvia's room with her, and Bramble slept in their room across the hall. They only owned a simple house like any other one in Manehatten. They all slept peacefully, despite the bombs, storm, and sound of sirens. The next morning when Sunny woke up, Sylvia was still under her wing, fast asleep. There was no sunshine, all that was in the sky were dark clouds from the passed storm and smoke from the fires. Bramble was also gone and in the war that morning, already out of the house. He must have left before we got up. I hope he'll return to us in one piece... Sunny thought. She then placed her gaze back on her child, who was still under her wing. "I know what I have to do..." She whispered.
Sunny gently removed her wing from the filly, then hurried to her room to get a basket out of the closet. She also grabbed Sylvia's softest blanket that she loved so much. Plus her teddy-bear named Paws. She put Sylvia inside the basket, covering her up with the blanket. Also putting Paws in with her, which the foal hugged as she slept soundlessly. Sunny felt a tear run down her cheek. "I'm going to miss you, my little girl..." She picked the basket up with her teeth by the handle of it. Sunny then gently flew off with the child across Manehatten. Unicorns fired shots at her, but with their magic, not weapons. Luckily, they both escaped unharmed. Sunny stopped to catch her breath behind a wall of a building. She turned her head to see earth ponies and unicorns in a battle. She then continued to fly once she thought it was safe. Sunny went all the way up to Cloudsdale to find a nice family for Sylvia to grow up with. Sunny knew she'd never see her beloved baby daughter again. Cloudsdale was used as a military base for the Pegasus Army, so there wasn't any battles going on, and the war wouldn't carry on here. Sylvia would be safe. Sunny spotted a nice house that had a family in it, peeking through the window, she saw an older colt and a mother. They were eating breakfast. She would be happy here, with an older brother and a friendly mom. She knocked on the door.
A pegasus answered. She had a light orange coat with a yellow mane, and had a gentle smile upon her face. "Good morning, could I help you with anything?"
"I need you to take this basket...take good care of it. Please, ma'am." Sunny said.
"Oh, um, of course." The pegasus replied.
Sunny cried as she flew off, knowing she'd never see her foal again.
Author's Note
I'm not sure how I was inspired to write this. I listened to the song "Safe & Sound" by Taylor Swift. It's a beautiful song, and probably one of my favorites. I'm not even a hundred percent sure what the song is about, but I decided to write a story based on it. I was also an orphan at one point in my life, so I decided to write this story. My whole life is depressing, so you may see a lot of sad stories on my page. But, that is where I get my inspiration from, and not all my stories are depressing. Just a majority of them. Thank you, and I hope you enjoy reading the rest of the story! I may even make a sequel.
