BEEP*

“Uhh, just five more minutes” I groaned as I turned around in the bed.

BEEP*

BEEP*

“Alright, I’m up.” I sat up in bed groggily rubbing my eyes as I looked towards the alarm clock.

BEEP*

With great perseverance, I managed to turn of the alarm clock by reaching out to touch the red button at the top of the alarm clock which read 8:00 AM.

“HUUUAAAH” I yawned as I moved towards the dresser and looked in the mirror. “I’m an absolute mess,” I said while looking at my disheveled hair and my wrinkled pajamas. I yawned once more before walking to the closet to grab a towel, and then to the shower to start cleansing myself from last nights events.

After I finished showering and dressing myself, I walked over to the kitchen and living room of my small apartment. I grabbed a glass of milk as you know us Dutch folk do and I put some bread in the toaster, humming an old tune while waiting for the bread to finish toasting. Today was going to be a lovely day, I thought to myself. I looked over to my notice board on the fridge and it read ‘don’t forget to study, test is on May 23.’ “What was the date today, oh yeah the …” my jaw dropped as I released today was the 22nd. “MY TEST, I’ve got get to the library NOW”

I grabbed the glass of milk and my toast, stuffed it in my mouth and ran for the door. “Gotta get to the car.” I muttered to myself as I almost forgot my wallet and my keys on my way out. I took out my driver’s license and saw that it was there and still intact on the inside pocket of my wallet. I chuckled to myself as I saw the picture on the piece of plastic. The picture was one I had taken on the day I passed my drivers license. The one and only time I had ever become drunk was that night. I didn’t remember the night very well but I did get a serious headache and heard strange tales of what happened the previous night the next morning so this card served as my everyday reminder never to drink again. EVER.

Alongside my undignified picture were my credentials;

Name: Thomas Bucklough Polet

Date of Birth: 15 April 1995

Nationality: Dutch

Place of residence: Amsterdam, Netherlands

You know, other information that the police might need to know just incase I infringed the law, which by the way, would totally NEVER happen.

I got in the car, closed the door and fastened my seatbelt. I fumbled with the car keys before finally getting them into the slot. I turned the key and the engine spluttered to life. But just as I was about to drive out of the parking lot of my apartment building, fate decided to have some fun and killed the engine. I attempted to get the car running again but it had stopped working. I tried to find a logical explanation and to my dismay, I noticed that I was out of fuel. So much for fate.

After grumpily stepping out of the car, I locked the doors and started walking along the canal. It was a rather cloudy day as the fall was nearing it end, but nonetheless, it still looked fairly … nice with the sun lazily looming above the horizon. I put my hands in my coat pocket for it was undoubtedly cold. “I really should have fueled up yesterday, now look where that got me.” I grumbled into the morning skies.

“Hey, Watch it” someone yelled as I almost walked straight into him or her without even noticing.

“Sorry sir”

“Just watch it next time”

“Yes sir” I replied as I kept walking, not even once looking up. I was simply too lost in thought to notice where i was going so I put my body on auto-pilot

I took a right and started going into the side streets of the ancient city. For fifteen minutes I kept taking my shortcuts until something caught my eye, something bright. My walking ceased and I stared though a small door into a dark alleyway lit only by a very bright light at the very end of it. My brain screamed at me saying that I should be getting ready for my final exam tomorrow. Half of me agreed and wanted to keep walking and get to the library but my curiosity evidently won as I stepped through the door, into the alleyway.

I started walking towards the light at the end of the alleyway. Once about halfway through, the door slammed shut and I heard it lock. I ran back towards and started banging on the door screaming and shouting for help. To my dismay, not one soul on the other side heard my pleas. I looked back towards the glowing end of the alleyway, fearing what was situated there.

I didn’t want to go that way, so I stayed where I was, afraid. I thought to myself that maybe I was about to be robbed, or murdered. I kept thinking of worse and worse situation all ending dreadfully for me. Half an hour later I figured that if I was going to be robbed or murdered, that it would have already happened and so, curiosity won … again.

Moving towards the light, it became less hard to penetrate the brightness with my line of vision. I noticed that at the center of the light, there lay an amulet on a stone pedestal. Inside the middle was a small gem that strangely looked lie it was moving on the inside.  I edged closer to the medallion and stranger it was up close. The gem inside the middle actually had swirling clouds of what looked like mist although magenta and blue were weird colors for mist. This made me think to the galaxy in men in black. The metal around the gem was half gold and half silver, with astounding carvings of ancient battles I failed to detect. Baffled by this strange amulet, I picked up a stone and hit the gem with precise accuracy. The amulet fell to the ground with a clang but nothing else happened.

As I assumed that the thing was safe to touch, I went over to the amulet and picked it up. I traced my finger over the smooth carvings of the battle scene embroiled skillfully into the metal and came to realize that as my hand moved closer to the gem, the swirling mass of clouds started to move more excitedly and in response I would move my hand away again. As frightened as I was of this strange, unearthly relic, I had the deep desire to feel the unnatural gem. I touched it. At first the gem felt warm to my touch, smooth as silk yet hard as a rock. not two seconds had passed before the gem's outer layer shattered like glass and all hell broke loose as the torrent of powerful winds rushed out of the gem and into my finger. I fell back and writhed in agony as I felt and extremely powerful force moving though my body looking for an exit.

I could only scream as the force twisted and turned my body but to no avail. the power fluctuating from the energy burst was unbearable and I began to assume that god had come for me. i though to myself 'what could I have done to deserve this' suddenly the energy changed course and started entering my head. I screamed in absolute torment as the intensity of the power threatened to overtake my conscience.

to my horror, a black, oily substance started leaking its way out of the hole in the amulet where the gem used to be situated. I gasped in torture once again as I felt all the pressure building up inside of my brain. Looking back at the goo seeping from the amulet with half conscience, I noticed a sudden bright light as I was thrown back against the wall of the alleyway with what felt like the force of many, many grenades. I heard a crack and wasn't sure if those were my all my bones, or the wall, though I assumed it was the former as it sure felt like it. I fell to the floor, my conscience failing and my strength drained, I closed my eyes and fearfully awaited death as i knew he was to come and pick me up.

Twilight had just finished reading "The history of the Griffon Wars" for the THIRD time that week when suddenly a massive explosion was heard from the direction of the Everfree Forest. 'What was that' she thought to herself. Out of nowhere, the shockwave hit her and forcefully knocked her back against the wall, sending pain up her right forehoof as the brunt of the impact was forced onto it.

She quickly picked herself up and looked out the window to see that a bright glow was coming from the Everfree forest, though rapidly diminishing. She then proceeded to walk down the stairs and was shocked at the sight before her, spike lay dazed on the gound and all the books had come of their shelves and lay on the floor.

"spike, spike are you alright? SPIKE!"

"eeeuuughgghg," was all that came from the baby dragon as he began to stir.

As she started towards Spike, Twilight heard a flash and turned around to see Princess Celestia and Princess Luna both looking at her with worried faces.

"We need to hurry" was all that Celestia said before she and Luna both ran out of the Golden Oak Library towards Everfree at full gallop
