//-------------------------------------------------------// Oc origins: Crescent blade -by New Lunar Principality- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// prologue/birth //-------------------------------------------------------// prologue/birth The young thestral mare with a watery blue coat and a messy purple edged navy blue mane laid on a hospital bed, tears staining her light red eyes and breathing slightly ragged as a black unicorn stallion with a short spiky red and gold mane and tail was holding her assuringly as the unicorn doctor brought them the small bundle wrapped in a small blanket. The mare named Moon Tear looked at the bundle in both anxiety and joy. Her pregnancy had been unexpected for the barely newlyweds. Reaching out for the bundle as her husband spoke up noticing the Doctor's worried expression. "Doctor is everything fine, is our baby okay?" He asked fear evident in his gold eyes, he didn't know what they'd do if something was wrong with their baby. What if he or she was deformed or special needs of some kind they were barely prepared to take care of a perfectly healthy baby they had spent the first two months unaware of it only to spend the next four months planning a wedding made three sizes too big by Tears parents. The doctor shook himself out of his stupor and smiled apologetically. "Oh no your baby is a perfectly healthy colt." The doctor said making the new parents smile in joy. With the worries of their foals health gone their stress was relieved, but only slightly. They still had problems the biggest one was time for their foal. The young couple were also young guards and while tear still had almost 9 months of maternity leave her husband only had three left. "Its just that well I'm not sure what he is." Both Moon tear and her husband Starsabre looked at him confused. "What do you mean, is he a thestral like me." Tear asked tiredly before gesturing toward Sabre. "Or a unicorn like his father." "Well i think it's better if you two see for yourselves, i don't think I can find the right words." He levitated the foal over to the awaiting arms of his mother who quickly cradled him in her arms. Starsabre's horn glowed in a golden aura as he undid the blanket getting a better look of their foal. Now fully revealed they gazed at their baby with his small ears with tufts of fur on the ends like his mother's and the inky black coat like his father with a small burgundy mane with his mother's navy tips. But what grabbed their attention was the lack of wings and the small slightly curved horn on his head. "Oh my" the new mother said in surprise while holding the colt close. Over her 9 months of pregnancy her head was filled over what her baby would be. She had hoped that he would be a unicorn, it would be easy to grow up a unicorn in canterlot. She held the baby tightly but carefully enough to not hurt him as worry started to storm her mind. Starsabre reached out with his hoof and placed it on the babies small barrel, smiling as he felt his son's heartbeat. The colt released what sounded like a cross between a whimper and a gurgle as he opened his eyes revealing their ruby red color. "He has your eyes" Starsabre said on the verge of tears like his wife as her worries quickly washed away as she nuzzled her foal who started to giggle and tried to grip her face with his adorably tiny hooves. "What should we name him?" Starsabre asked. "Well he's a mix of our two tribes, so why not a mix of our names?" Starsabre raised an eyebrow at the suggestion. "You want to name our son Startear" 'Star tear' gurgled before up chucking on his mothers chest. Trying her best not to gag herself as she shook her head. "Oh faust no we might as well name him destiny hope, what i meant is something like Moon sabre but  like-" she put the tip of her leathery wing to her chin in thought as she looked down at her son thinking of a name. "So Moon sabre, why not Crescent?" Tear nodded at it liking the name while Crescent giggled again. "And instead of Sabre how about Blade?" She said using her wing to clean off the leftover bile of his lips but began laughing as he gripped her wing started to suckle on it. Starsabre smiled at the sight "So Crescent blade it is." He said getting close and nuzzling his baby boy who let go of his mother's wing  to grip on fathers face trying to reach his horn. "Honey i think he might be hungry." Starsabre laughed out as Crescent tried to climb his face wrapping his little hoof on his horn. "I got him" she used her wings to lift him away from his father's face, she lifted the blanket off her barrel as Crescent started to struggle and was about to cry until Tear settled him in front of her stomach, she blushed and quickly covered her lower body and Crescent with a blanket as he started to suckle on his mother for milk. His father laughed at his wife's embarrassment before sighing. *sigh* he did it again quite loudly. *Sigh!* he did it again forcefully and loudly. *SIGH!* Tear rolled her eyes at her husband's subtlety "Fine you can choose his middle name, no objections from me." She said making him smile wide in happiness. "Crescent Wilson Blade it is!" He proclaimed like a lifelong dream had been fulfilled. Tear smiled as she rolled her eyes. "Its what i get for marrying a nerd" she jabbed playfully at him as they both laughed enjoying their first moment as a family together rather spending time to enjoy it instead of sullying it with their worries they find a way to work through it all for their son. If only they knew of the challenges he would face and eventually conquer in his life thanks to them and many others. //-------------------------------------------------------// 8 years later //-------------------------------------------------------// 8 years later Eight years later "Crescent get up" Starsabre said to his young son who was curled up tightly in his bed. The colt barely stirred making his father rub his temples with his already the young guard was already half dressed for work wearing his gold hoof guards with the chest piece and helmet floating in his golden aura. "Crescent wake up" he said louder finally making his son stir awake. Crescent rose from his bed his mane a mess of red and blue tips as he Rubbed his eyes free of crust. "Crescent you need to get ready school is in 30 minutes" his son frowned at the thought of going to school. "Crescent get up and get ready." He said using his magic to drag his son out of his bed. "Okay I'm up I'll get ready!" An irate Crescent shouted as he was hung by his short tail upside down. "Go brush your teeth and mane while i make your breakfast" Crescent nodded as he walked out of his modest size room to the hallway of his family's home and into the one bathroom of the small house. He looked himself in the mirror and saw his messy short mane along with the small fangs poking out from his lip, he always hated his fangs they made him look weird and the rest of him did that enough on his own and didn't need help from his teeth he had wanted to file them down but his mother always said no. "But they're so adorable on my little bat." she would always say if only she knew how it make things easier for her son. He spat out out the last of the toothpaste as he picked up the hairbrush in his red tinted magic and quickly brushed his bangs back and away from his eyes done with grooming him he looked at himself in mirror. "Guess I'm ready" he sighed "Crescent your breakfast is ready!" "I'm coming!" Crescent ran down the stairs as he saw his father fully armored aside from his helmet sitting at their small dining table with three plates of fresh hot blueberry waffles that made the young colts stomach growl as he quickly sat at the table and used his fangs to quickly rip a piece of his waffle savoring the sweet taste as his lips were stained blue. "Enjoying yourself?" his father asked struggling to hold back his laughter making Crescent quickly grabbed a napkin and wiped his face clean while hiding his embarrassed blush. "These might help" Starsabre levitated over a fork and knife. "Hehehe thanks dad" Crescent said awkwardly as his red glow surrounded the fork and knife. Now eating cleanly the Crescent enjoyed his breakfast his mood quickly becoming depressed again. "You okay Cres?" His father asked seeing him slow down. "...Yeah" Crescent replied hesitantly. "Are those colts still teasing you?" Crescent just remained silent making Starsabre sigh. "Have you tried telling the teacher again?" Crescent just looked down. "They never do it in front of the teacher." "Crescent i think-" they both stopped talking as they heard the front door open and close. "Hi honey I'm home" Moon tear said tiredly as she walked into the kitchen her blue night watch armor. "Hows my little soldier doing this morning" she nuzzled her son as she hugged him with her wings "I'm fine mom thanks." Crescent laughed out he enjoyed these moments with his mother the few between her job and sleeping for it. Tear sat down at the table giving her husband a silent nod of thanks while just as much maybe even more joy than Crescent as she started eating as well Starsabre opened his mouth to say something but Crescent looked him in the eyes and shook his head making him stop. "So Crescent hows the search for the cutie mark going?" Tear asked after swallowing her large bite of waffle. Crescent just shook his head sadly. "I just don't know where to start trying" "Maybe you should start trying our talents?" His father said picking up up his plate and levitating it to the sink. "i don't know " Crescent said unsure, he looked to his mother's cutie mark, the shadow of a knife on a full moon. "I don’t think i'm the stealthy type?" His mother yawned before smiling at him. "How do you know until you try, maybe you have mine or your father's talent." He then looked to his father's partially hidden cutie mark of a constellation in the shape of a sword. "Yeah maybe you can be a royal guard like us someday." Starsabre said cheerfully while Moon tear just huffed. "You mean a royal guard like you or a security guard like me" "Tear for the last time, your a royal guard." Starsabre stated matter of factly. Crescent had heard this conversation a thousand times before his mother being a thestral was almost immediately turned away from the royal guard and given to the night watch. "My salary and benefits are a joke compared to yours and i guard a freaking library when you guard the royal palace" his mother sighed from her short rant. "I swear if i had known i couldn't become a real royal guard, I'd just become a stay at home mom" she ruffled her son hair with her hoof as she smiled tiredly. "It be a much better use of my time" "But when we grew up you always said you wanted to be a guard." the blue mare just sighed at her husband's words. "I know but if i had known about their policy for bat ponies i would have made a better plan than being stuck in job where i spend every night walking around an empty library Instead protecting the princess and the royals, but because of Sun But instead of saying goodnight to my son I'm forced to protect nothing instead of other ponies." "Tear i know but." He looked to the clock and saw the time. "Can we talk about this later i need to get to work, and Crescent to go school." Starsabre put his helmet on making the armor's enchantment take affect his coat turning light grey, his mane white and straight. "Alright alright we'll talk later, I'm gonna go to sleep." Tear yawned out before turning to her son and adopting a smile on her tired face as she reached down nuzzled him. "Have a nice day at school sweety" Crescent blushed embarrassed but nuzzled back. "Bye mom I'll see you when i get home." Crescent got up and walked to the front door grabbing his red saddlebags with his magic and putting them on. "I'm ready to go dad." Starsabre just raised an eyebrow at his son. "You sure?" He asked a smile creeping on his face. "Yeah." His father nodded and gestured toward the door. "Then lets go." Crescent horn glowed as he grabbed and turned the door knob. Crescent hissed in iration and clenched his eyes shut from the sunlight. As he slowly opened his eyes feeling a dull pain in them seeing his father smile at him his horn glowing fishing something out of Crescent's saddle bags. "Forgetting something?" He took out a small pair circular black sunglasses and put them on his son. Crescent laughed awkwardly at his father's stare. "Sorry i forgot dad" His father sighed losing his smile. "You need to remember Crescent These! you could damage your eyes if you do-" Crescent just nodded at his father's like most young foals did at his age while his thoughts were clouded by other things. "I really don't wanna go to school today." (Sometime later) Crescent walked alongside his father nearing the gates of his school Celestia’s school for gifted unicorns. He remembered how he got into in his own words 'Sun buts forsaken school of favoritism' his grandparents insisted that he go to school here, even to this day Crescent had no idea how he got in. "Crescent you going to be okay?" His father voice shook Crescent from his thoughts. "I'll be fine Dad." Starsabre just shook his head and sighed. "You know we should tell your mother about what's going on "I know I know but she's worried enough about me and everything else i can handle." "Crescent she's your mother and my wife she needs to know the truth." Crescent looked up at him with big pleading eyes through his shades. "Please dad, you promised me" his father sighed again before patting his son on the head. "Alright fine, but if you come home bruised were telling her immediately got it." Crescent straighten up at his father's strict tone and nodded. "Yes sir." Starsabre chuckled at his son. "Okay get to school and, be careful okay." "I will dad!" Crescent shouted as he walked through the gates school. //-------------------------------------------------------// A typical day //-------------------------------------------------------// A typical day Crescent walked into school yard while waving goodbye to his father one last time before he turned back around and sighed. Crescent tried his best to avoid the stares a few students gave him. "Hey Crescent!" Crescent's ears twitched at the shout and turned to see on the other side of the school yard a grey pony waving at him from a table. Crescent ran up to him and smiled. "Hey Ocean." Crescent said to his only friend, except not really. "Ready for some last minute tutoring?" Ocean a grey unicorn with long black mane asked adjusting the orange scarf that he always wore. "Why does he wear that, probably a whole story of his" "Okay then Crescent let's see your homework." Crescent's horn glowed as he pulled his binder accidentally spilling out several other things out as well. "Crap" Crescent cursed as he scurried to pick up his books from the ground. "I'll help." Ocean sighed out as his horn glowed orange and picked up one of Crescent's textbooks by the spine. "Wait don't grab it like that!" Crescent tried to warn before a bunch of comic books spilled out from it. "Crescent, what are these doing in your math book?" Crescent twiddle his hooves avoiding Oceans stare. "Um.....bookmarks." Ocean sighed again collecting the comics in his magic. "You know i should confiscate these from you" Ocean warned as he levitated the comics over his head. "What, no!?" Crescent tried to reach the comics with hooves but was stopped by Ocean's hoof on his chest. Ocean having a few years on Crescent easily towered over him by two feet. "Wow the freak is so wimpy the nerd can over power him." An obnoxious voice that made Crescent's skin crawl laughed out. The comics were snatched out of Ocean's aura and into the light blue aura of Steadfast a blue coat and white straight cut maned colt as old as Crescent himself but the size of an earth colt. "Give them back!" Crescent shouted as got up. "Make me" Steadfast taunted. Crescent tried to rush for him but was immediately tripped by another aura grabbing his hind leg. "Ha how was the fall wingless bat." One of Steadfast's cronies laughed out. Not to the surprise of Crescent all the other students just gave slight glances before continuing on with their day. "Nice try rat, for that you get the penalty." Steadfast focused his magic pulling on the corners of the books straining them making Crescent's now unshielded eyes widen in terror as heart pounded in his chest. "No don't!" Crescent cried out as his eyes grew to the size of saucers. "Beg me!" Steadfast shouted as he laughed at Crescent's begging. "Hey, what's going on!" A guard shouted "These colts are harming him." Ocean said standing next to the guard. "Is this true?" The guard asked shifting his gaze between the two colts. "I was simply helping my fellow classmate, he tripped and dropped his books." Steadfast said with a kind tone lowering the comics to Crescent who clutched them in his hooves as close to him as he could. "That's not what this kid said." Steadfast's smile didn't falter at all. "Say what's your name?" Steadfast asked making the guard raise an eyebrow. "Its Shining armor."  Steadfast peaked at that. "Really, my father talked about you he thinks you have a promising future." Ocean could tell from his face Armor wasn't buying it all. "I'm going to take you to the principal this is too suspicious" Steadfast gave a quick glare at Crescent making him flinch before turning back to armor. "But Mr.Armor surely you can-" "Principal office now and I'll tell captain strife about your actions." Armor spoke sternly cutting Steadfast off forcing him and his cronies to follow him he could tell just from the scared look of the colt alone that Steadfast was lying. Crescent  breath a sigh of relief the pounding of his heart lessening as Steadfast got farther away. "You okay Crescent?" Ocean asked as he looked Crescent over. "Yeah I'm fine, thanks ocean." Crescent said as he continued to clutch his books. Ocean lit up his horn and started collecting up Crescent's books in his magic and putting them in Crescent's bags. "I got these" Crescent said as he carefully lowered the comics into his bag as carefully as possible his hooves shaking the whole time. "So....those must be special to you" Ocean said awkwardly trying to get Crescent's mind off things. "Ye...yea..yeah." Crescent stuttered out. "Some of these are actually the first comics my dad ever got me." Ocean smiled at Crescent's happy tone. "So your dad got you into comics" Crescent smiled showing off his fangs. "Yeah he told me it's the heroes he read about that made him want to become a guard, and he wanted to share that inspiration with me" Crescent blushed a bit. "That sounds really geeky doesn't it?" Ocean adjusted his scarf while chuckling. "Yeah, but what's so bad about geeky" they both laughed enjoying the bad joke for awhile until Crescent clutched his bag harder as he sighed. "I can't believe that jerk almost ripped them." Ocean looked around glaring at everypony around them. " They all just stood around not caring what Steadfast was doing to him, he almost cried for celestias sake and they didn't even care" Ocean thought bitterly. "I can't believe these ponies" Ocean grumbled out grabbing Crescent attention back. "Hey Ocean can i ask you something?" "Yeah about what?" Crescent looked away embarrassed but his curiosity outgrew his embarrassment and worry. "Why don't you ignore me like the other students or... do what Steadfast does?" Ocean sighed giving another silent glare towards the other students. "Because unlike others I'm not superstitious about thestrals." Crescent looked back up at Ocean surprised he didn't use the word 'bat pony'. "How?" "My dad's a thestral and a proud one."  Crescent just continued to look on confused. "But still why did you decide to tutor me, for free no less?" Ocean just adjusted his scarf while keeping a straight face. "Because you needed help." "That's it?" Crescent asked his voice squeaking a bit. "Yeah, you were struggling no one was helping you so i did." Ocean said matter of factly.  Crescent rested his head on the table with his ears flopping down. "I still don't get why ponies look at me like I'm a train accident, and then avoid me like the plague i know like weird but still" Oceans straight face turned into an uncomfortable one as he began to stutter his answer. "Well Crescent...you see um, how do i put this..." "What just say it." Crescent said after seeing him stutter for a full minute. After composing himself Ocean finnaly. "Crescent you look a tiny bit evil" Crescent raised his head from the table and cocked it in confusion. "What?" "I'm not saying you're evil I'm saying you kinda look the part." Crescent just continued to look on in shock. "How do i look evil!?" Crescent shouted "Well the red slitted eyes don't help." Crescent rolled his 'evil looking' eyes. "My mom has the same eyes, and no one says she looks evil." Ocean scratched the back off his head awkwardly avoiding Crescent's stare. "Well your red and black." Ocean said making Crescent eyes widened to the size of saucers. "How does my coat and mane colors make ponies think i'm evil." Ocean sighed rolling his eyes. "Its an old really dumb superstition, i think it went red and black ponies cause strife destruction and chaos or some bull like that." Crescent rubbed his eyes in frustration. "So because of some old stories and stuff ponies have written off red and black color schemes as monster's?" Ocean nodded in confirmation making Crescent smacked his head onto the table cutting into it with his horn. "That's...so...stupid." Crescent raised his head and looked at him. “Well leave it too a school full of high society children, a superstitious cowardly lot.” Ocean said bitterly glaring at the other students. “i didn't even want to go to this school.” Crescent moped. “Really?” Ocean turned back to Crescent at his complaint. “Yeah my grandparents forced my mom and dad to send me here.” Crescent looked down grumbling. Ocean nodded while using his magic to unstuck Crescent's horn from the table. The bell ringed signaling the beginning of class making ocean sigh. “Hey if you want to talk more, come see me at lunch.” Ocean smiled under his scarf. “Thanks...friend.” Crescent said hesitantly before getting up walking away levitating his glasses back on. “See ya.” Ocean waved goodbye. Crescent smile faltered as he continued to walk towards class keeping his head down as a few students gave him stares. Two filly’s giggled at him muttering blank flank making Crescent lowered his head further as started to walk upstairs to the second floor classrooms. “Hey” Crescent looked up to the pair legs he bumped into. A large chubby unicorn filly with green dreads and aqua fur looked down at him. “Wh..w.what?” He stuttered out as her horn glowed. “Steadfast's rules freak, wingless bats need to fly up.” She telekinetically pushed him hard enough send tumbling back down the stairs headfirst. He fell down the flight his saddlebags falling off and his glasses smashing against his face ending up with Crescent ending up as a heap at the foot of the stairs.
