Back to where I once belonged
Penny gazed through the one way mirror into the all too familiar room, breathing in the stale, sterile air. This was it. This was where it had all began. She stared blankly as her memories played out in front of her, teasing her. Trying play with her mind. But she wouldn't let it. She still remembered it all; The crushing heartbreak of her twisted fate, her torturous pain and testing, even her parents so called abandonment (An event that would dictate most of her life up until the past few months). She sighed, trying to keep a clear mind as memories of her mother came flooding back, and her horrible mistake. She slowly shook her head. That was something she had to fix for another reason. As her focus shifted she watched her herself dance in the shadows to a tune in her own head, not caring how the world saw her. She looked ridiculous. But in a twisted way, it highlighted one of her only redeeming qualities. Even for such a cruel setting, she was the only positive thing about it. The filly that had been her was still carefree, still happy, still alive in so many ways. It was her that had owned all of her compassion, her love for the world. She had lost that quality long ago. She moved her attention for a moment to her own reflection in the glass, a cold and bitter contrast to the twelve year old filly in the room. She felt the steel aperture where one of her eyes had been, trying to match the pace of its organic counterpart. It was hideous. She hated all of it. The cold metal shell that caged her mind and soul was the very reason for coming back in the first place. The wretched armor, the biological enhancements, it could all be prevented. She brought herself to look into her one good eye. It was almost all that was left of that little filly, the only part that hadn't been replaced by a programmed killer. Even her mind, her very essence, had been augmented.
