It was close to Hearts and Hooves Day, in fact, it was in two days. And Doctor Whooves had still no special somepony. However, he had an idea of who it could be, though. Yup, you guessed it. Derpy Hooves. But why would anypony want Derpy of all ponies as their marefriend. There were about a hundred more mares in Ponyville that the Doctor could try and impress. But he wanted Derpy. Most ponies had made fun of the grey mare for her eyes, and her inability to walk in a straight line because of her eyes. But Doctor Whooves found it cute. He'd been fond of Derpy for a few years now, and they'd been friends since they were foals. Heck, he even knew Derpy before her eyes were like that, which was quite a while ago.
"Hmm. What would she like?" The Doctor thought aloud in his tiny bedroom. He remembered Twilight could give decent advice, so he ought to go ask her. The brown colt threw on his tie, and opened the door to his house.
Doctor Whooves walked down Ponyville. It was a bright, warm, sunny day in the town, and lots of ponies were out with their special somepony, or maybe just with their friends. He trotted down the streets to where the Golden Oak Library used to be, now it was Princess Twilight's huge castle. By the door, there was a doorbell. Ding dong! The doorbell rung as he pressed it. The Doctor could hear claws echoing from the inside, presumably Spike, Twilight's assistant, coming to answer the door.
"Oh, hi, Doctor Whooves. What do ya need?" Spike asked. Doctor Whooves sighed. He really did not feel like telling Spike the story.
"Uh, its something I need to talk to Twilight about. Could you take me to her?" The brown colt requested. Spike nodded and led Doctor Whooves through the huge, purple castle. He had never actually been in here before, as he didn't get the chance to go in when Twilight was letting ponies take the tour. Too busy reading a novel about time travel.
"It's big, huh?" Spike giggled. Dotcor Whooves nodded in awe. Spike led The Doctor down a seemingly endless hallway. When it did end, there was a door. Spike turned the silver knob. "Twi, a visitor's here," Spike said before exiting.
Twilight used her magic to shut her book and put it back on a bookshelf crammed with spell books. "Hello, Doctor Whooves. What do you need? A book, ha, I have a lot of books," Twilight giggled awkwardly.
"Uh, no. I actually don't need a book. I need some advice. I've heard other ponies say you gave some.. uh... good advice," The Doctor said awkwardly. Twilight smiled.
"What can I help you with?" Twi asked.
"Well, I have this... uh... friend," Doctor Whooves lied "And he needs some advice. So how do you tell a pony you love them without sounding completely nerdy or awkward,"
"And who might this friend be?" Twilight asked suspiciously. She smirked as Doctor Whooves tried to think of an answer.
"Uh... He lives in Las Pegasus," The brown colt chuckled nervously. Twilight raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Well, just tell her how you feel. If you're good friends with her, chances are, she'll have the same feelings about you. If not, then she'll completely respect your opinion. So, just tell her how you feel. With flowers. Mares always love flowers!" Twilight smiled. Suddenly Doctor Whooves didn't feel so nervous about telling Derpy.
"Thanks Princess Twilight!" The Doctor called as he went running out of the castle, his hooves banging against the floor tiles.
Derpy would obviously be at her house, presumably baking or eating muffins. The Doctor walked up to Roseluck's stand to buy roses for his possible future special somepony.
"That'll be six bits," Rosluck said as she read a magazine. Doctor Whooves put six gold bits on the table, then ran off.
He eventually made it to derpy's front porch, where he knocked.
"Oh. Hi Doctor!" Derpy smiled in her usual, goofy way. "What are those flowers for?" Derpy stepped out on her porch with Doctor Whooves.
"Well, Derpy, I've always had a... thing for you fir these past years. And Hearts and Hooves Day is coming up soon, and will you be my special somepony?" The Doctor sighed. He looked down at his hooves nervously.
"YES! I will!" Derpy exclaimed. "I'm so glad you said it! I always had a thing for you too, but I didn't want to say anything because I was worried that it would ruin our friendship," She took the roses. And sniffed them. And sneezed. Doctor Whooves giggled at that.
"Derpy, did you want to get dinner together tonight?" Doctor Whooves asked. Derpy nodded and wrapped her hooves around the Doctor, the bouquet of roses still in her mouth.
