Having fun yet?
Prologue
Load Full StoryI'll get to the point, I have no fucking idea what's going on right now.
Let me get you up to speed on what's happened to me in the past few hours and you'll understand.
So, I was walking down the street, listening to my music. I wasn't going anywhere specific, just wanted to walk and relax. Ever get that feeling where you just can't be still? That you have to move or you'd die? Or something dramatic like that. Exaggerating, I know. Well, maybe, I don't know. I'm rambling now.
Anyways, so yeah, walking, music. Sunny day out, had my shades on. One of the reason I went into the forest. A blinding light coming from nature isn't natural, unless we're talking about a storm. But like I said, it was sunny out, and a light bright enough to get through my shades is worth noticing.
Why was I near the forest? Nature calms me, always has. So, I see a bright light, I'm wondering what it is. Like an idiot in a horror movie, I go into the forest. Obviously, bad move.
Walking through the forest is always a good experience, but this time I felt something, strange, I guess. I turn down the volume on my music, just in case there were unfriendlies around. I went deeper and deeper into the forest; I didn't take the time to mark my passage through it because I was too absorbed in my curiosity to find the source of the light.
I tried remembering the spot I saw the light come from, but the trees made it difficult. Their roots grew rampant, not giving any ground for a path of some sort to form. I took my shades off, the canopy of the trees formed a barrier against the sun. And I had no desire to trip and eat it, not with all of the gnarled, hard-as-rock roots waiting for my face to say hello.
I think I'm around the spot where the light came from, but I'm not so sure. This is around the time I realized I have no idea where I am. Spinning in place didn't help, in fact it only served in making me dizzy. There were some rays of sunlight that managed to poke through the thick canopy, shining on the foliage underneath the trees. Then I see something winking at me. Going over to it, I see some glass stuck in a tree. With the slight wind going through the forest, the leaves above would shift and sunlight poked through eagerly, hitting the glass.
So, that's it, mystery solved, just some glass in a tree. Right?
Dead, wrong.
It spoke. What, the forest? Nah, not possible. The glass? The ground? Nope. The tree. Have fun figuring that out. I know I did.
No, not really. I didn't completely flip my shit, but I wasn't exactly calm, cool, and collected.
A tree, spoke.
I can't remember it's exact words, something about choices. It kinda reminded me of the whole red pill blue pill scenario. I guess I chose the red pill and went into wonderland down the rabbit hole.
So that's how I ended up here, running for my life through some weird forest that was nothing like the one I just walked through. I knew this because of two key factors. One, there are now paths snaking in-between the trees. Two, no forest I know of has wolves made of wood, glowing green eyes, and breath that stinks of mold. I always imagined wolves breath smelled of blood. Nope, along with the wooden body comes the smell of mold.
Yippee for me.
So I survived, outran the wolves somehow and found the end of the forest. I'm not a survival expert, but I could deduce I was no longer where I thought I was. Three obvious things helped me reach this conclusion. It was now night, when I was sure only minutes ago I was out for a walk during the day with the sun above my head. In fact, right above my head, it was barely noon. Looking back at the forest I just escaped, it was dark, but glowing with some kind of evil aura. I'm not very religious, and I like to think of myself as a level headed person who didn't give into superstitious thoughts. But that forest, man. Suffice it to say, I was glad to be out of there. The third and final glaringly obvious fact? Hills. Grassy hills. No sidewalk in sight, no houses or apartment complexes. I could see a town in the distance, but I didn't recognize it. It looked a ways off so, not one to be still, which had gotten me into this situation in the first place, I set off for the town.
And that's about it. Here I am, walking to some town I don't know in a place I don't know, hoping to get some answers.
And you thought your life sucked.
