Load Full StoryTwilight entered her home, carrying a sleeping purple and green dragon on her back. She looked around the library checking that everything was still in working order which it was. She walked up the hard wooden stairs and trotted towards the door and into her room. Once again she repeated what she had done downstairs and checked that everything was still where she left it. The bed was made, her lamp was glowing brightly and her personal reading collection was stacked nice and neatly onto their respective shelf's. She placed a very sleepy Spike into his small bed and pulled the cover over him. She stood back up taking a moment to look down and watch him for a minute. Making sure he was sleeping all cozy and warm. She had missed him dearly and was happy to sit there by his side for a while.
Once it passed she trotted back downstairs towards her wooden desk. She looked over at all of her things scattered across the desk, her lamp, her books, her scrolls and quills, just the way she had left them. What caught her eye was a big book labeled 'Exploring the Aether for Fun and Profit'. She looked at it for a bit reflecting on the past few days and their strange events. After she finished looking down memory lane she then picked it up brought it over to it's shelf and sat it down. She put the book down gently and turned back around to head over to her desk.
She did not know what it was but she felt a shiver, no more of a tickle made it's way down her neck and back. She jumped at the feeling not quite sure of what it was.
It's so odd. she thought to herself. The last time I had a feeling like that was when... she paused mid thought.
Twilight looked down at the floor, then up towards the sky, only for her eyes to be met with a wooden celling. She half expected him to walk out from behind her and comfort her. She did miss him, she felt lonely with no one to talk to. Sure she had Spike and all of her other friends but none of her own blood. She wanted to do so much more while she was there, in his world. All of the things they had talked about doing together. She thought for a moment that she felt tears swelling up in the back of her eyes but held them back.
Her train of thought was cut short as she felt herself becoming unbalanced and she felt her eyes start to close. It had been a very long day and she needed some well deserved rest. Slowly she made her way up the wooden stairs to her room. As she entered her bedroom she went onto her tippy hoofs doing her best not to wake up the sleeping dragon that was snoring loudly beside her. She climbed into her pre-made bed and tucked herself in. It did feel good to be back in her own bed. As she looked up towards the Princess of the Nights beautiful sky she slowly closed her eyes and fell off into a deep sleep.
The sun was just peaking above the horizon, making the sky a beautiful purple colour. The birds had not yet started to chirp away and were all still resting in nests. Business ponies rushed to the train station to catch a ride to one of Equastrias huge city's. The weather team who worked the night shift were just finishing busting a few rouge clouds before clocking out and handing to the job over the the day shift Pegasi. The small town of Ponyville was very quiet in the morning. Unlike in Canterlot ( A city that never sleeps ) most of its inhabitants lay resting in their wooden and hay houses, well almost all of them. Twilight awoke to a large crash from downstairs. The sound was a mixture of a crackle and thump, while bits of loose paper were whisked about in the background. The lavender unicorn fell off of her cozy bed and landed onto the cold wooden floor.
"Ow my head," Twilight moaned to herself. After she was able to put stand on all fours she galloped out of her room, passing a still sleeping dragon.
That dragon would sleep through an explosion! Twilight thought to herself.
It was true Spike had been known to sleep through several explosions, crashes and other loud noises and commotion.
When Twilight reached the bottom of the stairs she peaked her head around the corner. She half expected something horrific like a ginormous monster with 5 legs and 20 arms! She had been reading to many horror books again. She stopped thinking as standing there in front if her was no monster but a cyan coloured Pegasus. Then Pegasus head turned up as her face met with Twilights.
"Oh hey Twilight hehe sorry about your window," Rainbow said trying to stop herself from laughing. She did feel bad for hitting the window but was kinda proud that she stuck the landing. The window she had crashed into was usually open however on this occasion it was shut. Well maybe she did come to see her friend a little bit early.
"RAINBOW DASH!" Twilight shouted trying to keep her cool. She was trying to figure out why there was a laughing pony in her library and a window off of its hinges ( well she kind of knew the second part but the first part was still a mystery ). "What are you thinking," she said calming down a bit. She was still in the process of waking up and for starters had no idea what time it was. Twilight looked over to her clock that was hanging on wall. The big hand was resting on a five and the smaller hand was resting firmly on a seven. "Seven in the morning, you crashed through my window at 7 IN THE MORNING!" Twilight began to lose her cool again but managed to stop herself before her mane caught alight.
"Well you see Twilight, the thing is I... Well I mean that it's a... Well I just wanted to know if we could go and see them again?" Rainbow finished.
She is going to say no I just know she will say no. I know we just got back but I never got to spend anytime with that colt-crudder, not that I wanted to anyway. Rainbow was trying to argue with herself Besides I have a certain hoof wrestle that I plan on winning. Rainbows thoughts were interrupted as Twilight spoke.
"Them?" Twilight answered back. In the back of her mind she knew what Dash was talking about. She did expect this to happen, however she did not think it would be Rainbow Dash of all ponies that would ask her. Rainbow made her dis-liking for her double very clear.
Well I suppose there was that one moment at the end. I couldn't really hear much over the wind. Twilight thought to herself before snapping back to reality. I should probably pretend to be clueless not much point messing with the fabric of reality anymore if I don't have to she thought.
"You know Dusk, Berry, Blitz..." She paused at the name Blitz. Rainbow sat there for a few moments simply looking at the sky, lost in her own train of thought.
"Oh," Twilight responded. She could not pretend anymore she also sat there for a moment as she tried to think of the most reasonable response the Dashies request. "Well you see rainbow I don't think that would be the best idea right now," Twilight said in a calm voice.
"Why not!?" Rainbow snapped back at her.
Twilight was taken back by the sudden hostility. Well there goes reasoning with her Twilight thought trying to figure out her next move. "Because It's not safe," Twilight said retaliating back against her friend, while managing to keep a calm tone.
Rainbow not backing down from her position stared Twilight down. Raising a eyebrow "Is that so huh?" Rainbow could tell that Twilight was lying but she didn't know why.
What could she possibly be hiding?
Twilight could tell that she would not believe her lies. Although she hated to lie to her friends she felt like it was the right thing to do. Although she knew that going to the dimension would not rip the whole universe apart, she was afraid. Afraid of many things, Twilight just could not tell her friends such a thing.
"Well fine!" Rainbow snapped. She opened her wings flexed them a little, then flew out of the hole where the window use to be.
Twilight could hear her friend sniffling a little bit, she was so confused. The library went quiet and Twilight was left alone in the library with the exception of a small baby dragon resting upstairs above her.
Later on that day a lavender unicorn and a purple and green dragon were both taking books out and sorting them into piles.
"Let's see 'A poor stick' goes into short story section, em aha 'Ten tips and tricks to perfecting teleportation' that goes over to my desk for later," she chuckled to herself.
"Twilight aren't you like... Hmff already like... Hmff great at teleportation?" Spike asked while climbing a ladder carrying six books one on top of the other trying to put them into their areas that Twilight had marked out for him.
"You know what they say Spike practice makes perfect," she responded still chuckling to herself.
After herself and Spike had finished re-organising the library Twilight sat in her library, she felt out of it. She didn't even want to read a book. She thought about her encounter with Rainbow Dash earlier in the morning.
Why in the wild wild world of Equestria would Rainbow Dash want to go back there. Twilight ran some scenarios through her head none if them making any more sense than the last. "Forget it," she said to herself. "Spike I'm going out for a walk," she called to her assistant. She didn't know where she would be going but going for a walk felt right. After checking that Spike was napping she opened the wooden door and headed out.
After walking around Ponyville for some time she started to feel bored and worn out. It was a foggy day the sun being covered up by clouds and haze.
Well of all the days to go a walk it had to be this one. Twilight thought un satisfied with the weather.
She had not seen any of her friends ( with the exception of Rainbow Dash ) since Pinkies pizza party. She could only imagine what each of them might be doing. Knowing Rarity she will be sobbing onto a lush bed, crying out for her lover. Fluttershy may be doing something similar but in a less dramatic way than Rarity would. Applejack would probably be busy trying to make up for a week of missed apple bucking. Rainbow dash well she's probably either napping or... napping and for Pinkie Pie who knows it's Pinkie Pie.
Twilight needed a break, she needed a home away from home. An idea brewed in her brain for a little while. After she thought of the perfect place she did a 180 degree turn on the spot and made a B-line for the Everfree forest.
There in front of her stood The Hedge. It looked the same as she headed inside she felt warmer and more at home. She spotted the fire still burning from the night before. Pizza boxes were scattered everywhere. To top it all off there was streamers everywhere. " Oh Pinkie," Twilight said recalling the night before. She remembered that she was sitting around the table with all of her friends. Well she thought she was sitting around the table with all of her friends. The next things she remembered was being thrown to the ground by a multi-coloured explosion of streamers, and a hyper pink pony.
Party cannons were not meant for small confined rooms. Twilights horn began to glow as all the streamers were covered in a magical aura as they were lifted off the ground and shoved into a corner. As the last of the streamers were levitated into the corner, Twilight saw something out of the corner of her eye. It was a note and it was from DUSK!
Dear Twilight and Friends
If you are reading this note then the spell for viewing parallel dimensions has worked. I have managed to send this note from our Hedge to yours. If this hasn't landed in the correct dimension please disregard and forget you ever saw this.
I am writing to let you know that our Prince Solaris visited the library today, which is odd to say the least he is not one for surprise visits. He had the note that you sent to your princess with him. Looks like out plan worked Twi, not sure they knew each other but that's a story for another time. Anyway he has assured me that crossing between our two worlds is safe " for the most part " so if you wish to come visit anytime soon you may do so.
I have put a Magical bookmark of sorts onto our world so you should have no trouble finding it. Just make sure you have all the ingredients with you and your magic is tuned to the correct frequency. If you are going to travel we have carved out a area in our hedge for you to arrive in. I suggest you do the same with yours, that way we will have a portal of sorts that we can use to travel across worlds.
We hope to see you all again soon, Berry is desperate to throw you all a Welcome to Ponyville your home away from home but not really PARTY BASH!
From Dusk Shine
"Oh brother," Twilight said aloud. Well that's a first.
