The Secret Life of a Shadowsinger
-I- A Message from a Secret
Young Sky Star awoke one Sunday morning to look at her calender next to her bed. August 9th, 2012. Perfect. Sky Star always enjoyed her birthday parties, as they always were fun and exciting. However, there was always that one flaw: None of her friends showed up. Now, of course one would find it rude, not to show up at a friend's birthday party, but Sky Star had no friends. Every year she spent her birthday with her mother, father, and older sister. Usually, her parents and older sister worked together to make the party, and so she went downstairs for breakfast: Pancakes! But this year, Jasmine Star, her sister had plans.
"I'm really sorry, Sky. Really, I am! But Mom and Pop will make it perfect just for you, ok?" Jasmine tried to reason.
"But, sissy, you promised! Don't brake your promise!" Sky Star said to her sister at breakfast.
"Girls! Jasmine, you promised your sister you'd make it to the party. You go to the party!" Yellow Star, their mother said stirnly. Yellow inched closer to Jasmine and whispered, "You know very well she has no friends. You know how close she is to you. She loves you. And you shut her out all the time. It's her seventh birthday! You must go. She will never forgive you this time. You betrayed her before and she still loves you. Don't dissapoint her." She said those words as though Sky could not hear.
Sky slumped and pouted. She ate her pancakes regularly.
"But mom! I have a date with Chasey!" she whined at her mother. Chasey was Jasmine's pet name for Chase Racer, a sixteen year old pegasus mare, who dated Jasmine, and that Jasmine's parents thought was a colt, since they were orthadox Celestians, and would kill Jasmine if they found out that Chase was a mare.
Sky finished a pancake and flew to her room while her father began chores and her mother reasoned with Jasmine. They were a simple lifed pegasus family living up in Cloudsdale, so the beds were made with the fluffiest cloud matresses. Sky Star sat on her bed and let out a simple tear. "I don't want her to go... Not with Chase," she said. Jasmine had a very private life. Though she was so "open" about it with her family because she lied. However, even sisters shared secrets. Sky Star knew about Chase Racer. She was a mare, but Sky didn't care. But even Eva Star, an eighteen year old mare living in Ponyville didn't know. She was also a Celestian, but not an orthadox. Eva Star was coming over for Sky's birthday, but with her coltfriend, Shimmer Fall.
The phone began to ring, and Yellow Star picked up the phone. "We'll have this conversation later, Jasmine," she said before uncovering the speaker with her hoof and saying: "Hello, Star family, this is Yellow Star speaking, how may I help you?"
"Hello, Mrs. Star. I just wanted to say that Sky Star will not be attending school tomorrow. It's an off day, Mare," a voice from inside the phone said.
"Oh, why, hello Mrs. Kirsh! Is that so? Well, I guess that will be fine since Eva Star is coming so she can fillysit. Thank you for letting me know. See you Tuesday then. Goodbye!" and with that, she hung up. "Sky Star, come downstairs for a moment!"
Reluctantly, Sky hovered down the stairs, and said, "Yes, Mom?"
"You have no school tomorrow, which is convienient, so you can stay up late and eat alot of cake, ok?"
Sky Star smiled and when her mother turned around, she flew a bit higher to poke her shoulder. "Yes, dear?"
"Can I open some presents?"
"When Eva gets here. She should be here so-"
A knock on the door notified Bright Star to open the door. "Good Morning, dear! May I offer you some breakfast pancakes?"
"Sure, Poppa! Hi, Birthday Filly! Come say hi to your big sissy!" Eva Star said.
Sky rushed up to her big sister and hugged her. "I was just about to open my presents!"
"Open this one first, ok?" Eva asked, getting a nod in response as she hoofed her sister a small package.
As Sky Star began to open it, she gasped as she saw it: A diamond encrusted treble clef necklace. Sky nodded and put it on, getting the message as though they were speaking to eachother through brain waves. The next package contained a silver dress that was too big. At the bottom were two white hoof sleeves and a note reading:
You can change the world, if you know how to do it. I love you, Sky Star. Wear these gifts when you know you are ready.
I love you, Eva Star, your big sister. ♥
Sky Star woke up, hot and sweaty. "W-what? What the Tartarus was that?" she gasped. It was her seventh birthday eight years and 363 days ago. It was Wendsday, and her bithday was on Friday. She wasn't having a party- she was performing. She ate some oats and brushed her teeth. Sky slipped on a sweater and put on a gray saddlebag on top of her silver coat. She flipped her blue mane back and looked at her treble clef cutie mark. She never wore the necklace since Eva died. She could still remember it:
"Eva, no! It's a trap!"
"Your big sister will protect you," she yelled.
Eva was never seen alive. Only after Sky went out on a walk a few days later, she found Eva's body. It still tortured Sky. "E-e-ev-va....." she sobbed. But Eva kept a secret. In her old house in the Everfree Forest was her cottage of old oak broken down, was a package with Sky and Jasmine Star, Love, Your big sister, Eva Star ♥XOXO
Sky went to school that day glumly. About two hours later, after four classes, she went into an abandoned bathroom. Nopony went in there except Sky Star. She made it her own: Gray and blue everywhere and posters of the trio. They made her cry everytime: Her two best friends in the world, and only two from the trio were still alive, and one of them well.
"I miss the days," she began to sing, "When it was just the three of us... Together unstopable... But now, so mortal... You went to a portal of death................."
