Dream manipulation
Several days ago, Princess Luna had visited a strange dream, the dreamer had been the former personal student of her older sister Celestia, Princess Twilight… However the mare had appeared a little less… Normal. She appeared to be in the form of an old race Luna was familiar with, lamias. Yet how had she discovered them? More importantly how had she acquired a method to turn INTO one of them? Luna, sadly, had made no progress in discovering the answers to these questions, then again her mind hadn’t been particularly focused on the endeavour. Luna had a way of categorising dreams and had brought up a selection of dreams that ponies were having related to snakes. Several, obviously, had been nightmares, which Luna had had to make a detour to fix. Then Luna had stumbled across a particularly favourable dream.

Shad blinked glancing around the dream forest. This was odd, he’d had dreams set in forests before but he hadn’t been focusing on them, yet this one was in great detail… Strange. And nothing else seemed to be happening, shrugging Shad decided that standing around wouldn’t help him so he began to walk in the direction he had appeared, which greatly helped Luna set up by sliding a little ahead of Shad.
Shad continued to traverse through the forest, rapidly becoming bored. His mind began to wander, wondering if he could summon any snakes to occupy the dream when he pushed a branch aside. Shad had broken into a small clearing, though tree branches still hung overhead, blocking out the sky. And hanging from those branches were lots and lots of snake coils, gently swaying like small hammocks. Instantly interested in the dream again, Shad approached the closest coil. He’d never seen a colour pattern like it before, dark blue nearly black with a night sky blue belly and white star patterns. Odd, then again it was a dream. Oh yeah it was a dream.
Shad smiled slightly and reached up before gently tugging the coil down, it slid down into his hooves without the slightest bit of resistance. “Final question.” Luna said in a soft voice, Twilight gulped “May I have some?”
Twilight blinked as the question went to her mind but refused to believe she’d heard it
“Sorry?” Twilight asked baffled

Shad sighed sadly and walked towards the door, clicking it open. Sure enough Shad’s boss had turned up. Shad’s boss was a rather small cookie golden brown mare with an icing white mane and tail, her cutie mark a star above a fancy cake
“Shad Oregano?” She hissed, Shad nodded “Where were you when your shift started?” Again that deadly voice like a viper… With a machine gun
“I…I slept in.” Shad said lamely
“Slept in? How did you manage to sleep in so late!?”
“Princess Luna visited my dream.” Shad’s boss laughed, a laugh without any humour behind it
“Is that so? And what did she do, offer you a job, because if you don’t do some quick thinking you’ll be looking for one once I’ve spoken to your boss back in Ponyville.” It was at that point Shad decided to shift his hooves and stepped on the mail.
Instinctively he looked down, and sitting neatly on his welcoming mat of a coiled snake was a letter in deep dark blue… With Luna’s seal. Shad picked up the letter and opened it
“What do you think you’re doing, ignoring your boss?”
“You’re not my boss.” Shad whispered
“Pardon? If I’m not, who is?” But Shad’s excitement couldn’t be extinguished, not even by his boss’s anger
“According to this… Princess Luna is.” Shad held the letter up grinning. It was a request for employment at Canterlot castle. Shad’s boss opened her mouth and, for once, no sound escaped
“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to be gladly packing for my new job.” Shad nodded politely and shut the door in her face, holding a hoof to his mouth when the door had closed to stop him laughing at her horrified face. She’d just lost a top employee AND been humiliated. Shad, however was over the moon
“Canterlot here I come!” Shad said out loud.
Luna had received the parcel from Twilight as the sun began it’s decent, within was the lamia potion, which she immediately took. After a brief wave of pain Luna had the matching tail from her dream. Now to meet the new chef. Shad had been transported from Manehattan by a carriage Luna sent, two night guards, looking a little drowsy, saluted him as he climbed aboard. It was an amazing experience to see Canterlot, and to know he’d soon live there, he couldn’t wait. Shad was taken immediately to the kitchen and given a brief tour by the head chef, then he was summoned to Luna’s chambers. Shad watched, from a window a little down the hall from Luna’s room, the sun set and Luna’s skyward artwork appeared
“Shad Oregano, Princess Luna will see you now.” One of the guards said as he walked past
“Where are you going?” Shad asked
“The Princess had relieved us for the night early, said she didn’t want anypony around here, besides you.” Shad turned as the pair of guards walked away, a blush clear on his face.
Shad pushed the door open to Luna’s room, it was really beautiful. Like a picture of land at night, hills clearly etched into the carpet by expert shadowing. The walls had actual constellations that Shad recognised over a night sky with a full moon on the ceiling. A number of small bookshelves and draws sat along one wall, near a small desk beside a window, with a circle of stars around it, curtains closed from Canterlot. The desk was, strangely, clear aside from a few small jars of ink and quills. The final thing in the room was a large circular bed with moon white curtains around it, pushed against the far wall. Curled up on the bed, grinning, was the Princess of the night, Luna, in her lamia form
“I promised.” She whispered “Now let’s see if it’s true that reality is better than a dream.” Luna said coaxing Shad to step closer with a little hypnosis. Shad didn’t resist.
