Rainbow Heart 2
Chapter 8 My Love
Previous ChapterNext ChapterRoadkill was watching Rainbow Heart never taking her eye off of him for more than a few seconds. It was going okay. He had attempted to hurt himself a few times but she managed to stop him. Incidents of him laughing and gigging for no reason had also went down dramatically, meaning she thought he was getting better. Rainbow Heart would also go through different fits of emotions sometimes crying, other times angry, often being happy, and the like with other emotions. They seemed to be dying down as well. If that was the case then perhaps she would be able to leave soon. Roadkill was able to find some water and used the bread to make some real sandwiches with the little that there was in the kitchen. She dared not venture further than the kitchen and dining room, even with Rainbow Heart next to her side, because the fortress was unknown to her and it could be like navigating a dark labyrinth, a twisting maze that was in ruins and full of dangers.
Rainbow Heart right now was playing with vinyl collectible figure kid toy ponies based on all four types of ponies, earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, and alicorns with various colors, genders, and cutie marks. Roadkill was laying on the ground just watching him play with his toys like a mother would to a foal. From time to time, Rainbow Heart would use his magic to summon an orange tentacle or two to assist him in playing with the figurines following a made up impromptu storyline.
“Honey, I’m home.” Double Rainbow exclaimed walking into the dining area
Rainbow Heart didn’t pay attention. He was too busy playing with the ponies.
Roadkill stood up and looked at Double Rainbow who walked over to her.
“Thought I’d check in to see how you two were doing and getting along.” Double Rainbow informed.
Roadkill stated, “Rainbow Heart’s doing really good. I think he might be getting better. His laughing fits and emotional outbursts seem to be happening less and less.”
“Has he hurt himself at all?” Double Rainbow asked, looking over Rainbow Hearts body visually.
Roadkill instantly said, “No, he hasn’t. He tried to but I prevented him from doing it to himself.”
“Good, for your family’s sake.” Double Rainbow stated.
Roadkill slightly receded a little with a look of uncertainty on her face.
Double Rainbow’s attention returned to Rainbow Heart who was on the ground playing with the toys.
“Heart, ready for horseplay?” Double Rainbow exclaimed.
Rainbow Heart excitedly said, “Horseplay! We can horse around now!”
Rainbow Heart got up and rushed over in front of Double Rainbow. They rubbed their muzzles together and kissed. Rainbow Heart got halfway up resting on the table using only his front legs. Double Rainbow wet himself and mounted Rainbow Heart doggy style.
Roadkill was unsure what was about to happen but had a pretty good idea. She looked away trying to ignore the moans and groans of pleasure. This was something she didn’t want to witness. Roadkill was thinking if two ride on a horse one must ride behind the other. After what sounded like Double Rainbow achieving, there was some scurrying around. Roadkill assumed they were switching positions and the love noises continued. It sounded like Rainbow Heart climaxed and they stopped. True love sex disgusted Roadkill. Then again she had never had a boyfriend who was worth a damn.
Double Rainbow told Rainbow Heart to keep playing with his toys and Rainbow Heart got back to where he left off with his pony toys.
Double Rainbow looked at Roadkill and stated, clearing his throat, “I will return. Watch him carefully.”
Roadkill looked at Rainbow Heart and continued her watchful gaze. She saw that Rainbow Heart had stopped playing with the pony figures. He was staring straight at the wall, perhaps still experiencing the cooling off period after sex.
I gazed at the wall, my memories were returning to me in small batches. It was like a whirlwind of emotions and experiences reliving some of my best and worst memories. I was still in lull from the love making. Perhaps it was the sex I just had with my love that brought about the next series of flashbacks.
Double and I were standing next to each other with one leg over each other’s shoulders on the street of Canterlot with the Canterlot Castle in the background. We were smiling and dressed for a wedding. I had given my camera to another pony who took a picture of us with a flash of light.
“Here you go.” The mare said, handing me my camera.
I said politely, taking the camera and putting it around my neck with the strap, “Thanks, for your help.”
“No problem.” The mare said walking away.
Like many ponies we were there to witness the wedding. It’s not every day a princess of Equestria gets betrothed. We had contemplated getting married ourselves. In fact most of the conversation that day was in reference to the possibility of it.
Then it happened. Like bats out of a cave, these creatures called changelings sprung from the castle and began attacking ponies everywhere in the city. Chaos enveloped the streets. Most ponies fled but a few brave souls stood their ground and fought against impossible odds.
Double and I were trying to flee and were caught in the middle of the mess and the insanity that developed. We were weaving our way through the streets and alleys. We thought if we could get to the castle gates we could hide deep in the forest. We never made it there.
A horse pulled carriage was out of control, being pulled by a manic horse who was fleeing in panic. A sword from a royal guard had landed on the wheel guard and was lodged securely in its place. The horse drawn carriage with the exposed blade banged and clambered down the street road. We hearing it approaching us at a street intersection, stopped to let it cross in front of us. It rushed past us dangerously close. It was here, Double Rainbow’s neck was cut by the exposed blade.
“What a jerk!” I said.
I looked at Double Rainbow. Both of his hooves were on his throat and blood was gushing from his neck.
“Are you okay?” I asked rushing towards him.
In a moment double Rainbow collapsed to the ground.
“No!” I screamed in a panic.
I picked him up using my magical horn and rushed to the nearby hospital streets away. I burst through the door of the emergency room which was filled with recently injured patients.
“My mate needs help!” I shouted racing to the counter top to talk to the nurse.
The nurse looked at the injury and shook her head looking at me. She looked down in shame knowing there was nothing she could do for the injured unicorn.
“I’m sorry. There is nothing we can do. That was a fatal injury. He’s dead.” The nurse said sympathetically.
Tears flowed like a waterfall down my cheeks. I couldn’t speak.
“Bring him and come with me.” The nurse said.
I complied. She brought me to a room and I laid his corpse on the bed.
The kind nurse said, “I have to get back to the desk, we’re swamped at the moment. We’ll take care of his arrangements in a little while. Until then you can stay here with him.”
The nurse left and I rested my head on his lifeless face, sitting on the floor. I wept.
A few hours passed and I wondered if they had forgotten me. I was laying in the bed next to him, cuddling with my deceased lover. I was going to miss him. I took the scalpel I had taken from the medical drawer and cut off my mate’s horn. It was the only thing I was going to be able to remember him by. I got out of the bed and tossed the scapula away. A few hours later at night the nurse returned and entered the room. We took care of all the formalities and paperwork. She didn’t even noticed I had removed my love’s horn.
The disaster was over. I rode the train back to Ponyville alone. It was a long quiet walk from the train station back to our house.
I overly drank and smoked. I went to the spa the next day to work, but my performance was sluggish and a few ponies complained to the two spa pony managers who talked to me and asked that I go home early to recover from the recent events.
A few days later, Double Rainbow’s funeral and burial took place. I took it hard.
A few weeks later, I resigned from the spa because of my addictions.
I worked as a night watchman for a while, contemplating what to do. I met with Night Wish and asked her if she had any books on magic. Figured I’d read to try and get my mind off of things. She had a few and there wasn’t anything useful I them.
Then on one night, it happened. There I drank alcohol and smoked cigarettes. I looked at Double Rainbow’s sharp pointy horn. I held it next to my chest using magic from my horn, which made it glow orange. I pulled it slightly away to build up speed and momentum. I was going to ram it through my heart. Tonight I was going to be with my lover no matter what. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and let it out. I shot the horn towards my heart. I expected it to strike me and waited but it didn’t. I opened my eyes. The horn was being held back by a rainbow aurora, the same kind of glow that Double Rainbow’s horn glowed when it was used by him. But that was impossible. Double Rainbow was dead. No pony from beyond the grave can influence the living, including a unicorn and his horn. The love of Double Rainbow would not allow me to commit suicide even from the grave and in death, somehow his horn was being controlled by his soul. I let up my magic unsure of what was going on. It was then the horn shot at my head, its magic overpowering mine when I tried to stop its forward progress, the horn flipped around, and mounted its base into me by slamming into my forehead above my own horn. It felt like a sharp rock had been thrown and struck me in the head. I collapsed. I got up and looked in the mirror. Double Rainbow’s horn had merged with me. I sensed an incredible amount of energy and power cursing through my body. I had no idea Double Rainbow had this much magical ability. Something weird was going on here. Double Rainbow was trying to tell me something. It was then I read my mate’s Book of Shadows. I learned a lot of interesting spells in the process. I was sure it did not contain all of his spells though. One in particular stood out. The zombie spell. I knew what I had to do.
