The Road

I started walking. I wasn't sure of where or even what I was doing. I lightly touched each and every pony I strutted passed, giving them some of what remained of my little hope. The tight, leather jacket was one that was worn by my father, a little small for my tastes, but hey, can't argue with the old man. Inside were three pockets, one of them cradled a .44 Magnum. When I felt that poking against my bare skin, I knew what I was doing again.

The doors of the old convince store, creaked, the lights flickered, and the shelves were looking like they want to disintegrate. Good to be home. My hands needlessly twitched as I shoved the doors inward, not forcefully, but hard enough to make an entrance and announce my presence.

I stepped up to the counter, the worker seemed unhappy with standing at the counter, couldn't blame him.

"Hello sir. How are you today?" There was no actual joy or even true emotion in what he said, just like he repeated the same sentence all throughout the day. Not that I truly minded, it didn't really matter to me. The gun slipped right into my hoof, like it was meant to be there, it fitted perfectly. I whipped it out and aimed it directly at the area between the worker's eyes.

"You have exactly ten seconds to fill this bag with cash, before I put a bullet in your brain and do it myself." There was no fear in his eyes, only regret.

"You have exactly 25 seconds before the alarm goes off and the police arrive. Are you sure you actually still want to do this?" The worker didn't have his hands behind the register, he acted as though he was talking to a regular customer. Shit, he's done this before.

"Shut up. Of course I know the risks. Why do you think I did this?" I waved the gun back and forth between his head. Counting the seconds in my head.

"You've got twenty."

"And you've got five. Feel like a big man now?"

"You're full of shit, you know? You're scared, you don't want to go to jail, and you certainly don't want to kill me." The worker seemed to be getting a rouse of this.

"It some of my flaws. But, there lying here just for you to especially see. I let everyone se my flaws before I kill them. You can see them yourself. But I am no chicken shit, I'm gonna kill you." I cocked the gun. Spinning the barrel, then pulling the back.

"Man look at yourself! Your bucking shaking for Celestia's sake!" He grabbed my left hoof, and sure enough it was shaking like a pony with Parkinson's.

Slow motion. The world seemed to completely stop. The barrel rolled, the trigger clicked back into place. There was no scream, no sound form the worker's mouth. I thought that I could see a faint smile. Did the worker want this? No, no he wouldn't want this, why would anyone get themselves killed?

After all of these thoughts rolled into my mind, the loud bang of the gun going off in the middle of the store sounded. I was taken back by the force of the shot. Just like the jacket, the revolver belonged to my father. The worker's eyes stared straight a head as he slumped over. He's dead. A giant hole reminded in the middle of his head. Soon, a pool of blood filled the floor.

The whole store erupted in red, a loud, jarring, blaring sound burst through the broken silence. "Shit, shit, shit, SHIT!" Suddenly I was being spastic, I grabbed the bag on the counter and hit the side of the cash register with the revolver. The cash door of the register broke open, like a tree falling in the woods when no pony was around, because I didn't hear the sound through the loudness.

I was shaking bad that he dropped his gun behind the counter. But, I continuously filled the bag with the dirty money, not taking into account the gun. I could hear the sirens around halfway through the bag, they were coming closer and closer. I figured I had about 2 minutes left.

I hopped the counter, almost dropping down on the dead pony. I grabbed his slumped body and dragged it to the left of the register. His final stare would be forever bunted into my head. The clock read 1:16, one more minute. I dug the last remnants of 20's and 50's out of the back of the register, I left the change there. I shuffled through the blood looking for my gun. "Ah!" I pulled it out of the pool. I grasped the bag in my left hoof, and the revolver in my right. I'm ready.

The cars pulled up, there were a total of 4. Soon, men armed with pistols and shotguns pilled out, it's show time.

"You have until the count of 15 to get out of the store with your hands up. If you do not we will fire."

"Fuck you! Asshole!" I yelled back, I fired once and the bullet panted the side of the car up front, smashing the windshield. The cops didn't even react. I fired one more, it hit the side view mirror.

"Okay," the cop began, "Units four and two head in through the front guns at a ready." The cops nodded.

The kicked the doors down, the glass that remained in them smashed against the ground, shattering everywhere. I peaked my head up, watching them move around, looking for me.

I fired one more bullet, it smashed through the chest of one of the men, he clutched his burning chest and fell over. His gun sprayed bullets everywhere, holes formed throughout the building. The other cop didn't react, I peaked up again and noticed that he stopped looking for me, he was headed towards the door.

Immediately after that happened, the lights flickered. They got dim, and soon they died. I ran over the dead pony cop's body and searched for his gun, I pulled it from his dead grasp, and flipped behind the magazine shelf.

I soon saw the other cops pile into the building. I fired upon one with my revolver, he was hit in the leg and crumpled to the ground. Like a dying animal, he gasped for air. His dead eyes staring off into the distance.

All of the other cops jerked themselves towards the shots. They began firing their handguns, their bullets grazing the counter, just barely missing me. After what seemed like an eternity, I heard hooves clacking against the ground. I peaked out and they began running toward the big hole that used to hold a door. They flew out the building.

"What the fuck!? Where the hell are you going?" I shot at them, but my bullets didn't seem to hit. I jerked my head toward the clock, the second's hand, the big hand, and the little hand all seemed to twitch trying to move front their current time. It read 1:17.

The cop cars raced out of the parking lot, except for the one belonging to the ponies that I killed. I grew more and more confused, and began walking outside. What I saw terrified me.

Bullets rained throughout the sky, dropping down and hitting the asphalt. Fire consumed all that I could see, ponies were running, their skin melting off and screaming for the pain to end. Cabins which surrounded the area were torched, ponies left their foals who had tears streaming from their eyes, crying out for their parents to save them. The distinctive sound of Helicopter blades came into my hearing range. Trees fell down and broke the power lines, somehow the store was being untouched form the hell. Houses that were lit on fire, Immediately went dark, the windows shattering. I swore I heard bombs being dropped.

"Who would do something as awful as this shit?"

A voice pierced my thoughts, "I would."

I whipped part way around when a hot pain began to envelope me, and I slumped over. A figure grabbed my shotgun from the ground. He grasped the bag and stole it from my grasp. I saw a light, and suddenly the whole world went dark.

This day would forever be known as, "Day Of Darkness."
