Lucy entered her room. It was a sparse room. A bed, desk and wardrobe. Plain, white walls with padding to dampen sound. On the desk, a computer screen with what seems like a million wires comes to and fro, mic, camera, etc. All she required to work, sleep and play.
Well, not really.
A text from her sister, Sally, said that she needed to talk to her on a secure video chat link with Tracey, Cadence and her. One that wasn't monitored by the CIA.
Lucy sat down at the computer. She turned it on, waiting for all systems to be ready for her to do anything. She knew what Sally wanted to talk to her about. It must have been about Tracy's work up at the Arctic and what it meant if it worked the way it should.
Lucy was happy after all these years, progress was being made. For a long time, Sally and Tracey insisted it wasn't the right time. People's attitude wasn't right towards x, y or z, war was being raged in the wrong place. One time it was just because a really weird song was topping the charts in Switerzland was the reason that they didn't something.
But now everything was ready.
Well, according to a Tracey anyway.
When the link was set up and video feed began coming through, Sally and Cadence were already on, talking to each other like they were right next to each other.
"Anyway, Joseph came up to me and ask why I didn't eat meat. He though it weird for someone not to eat free food when offered, especially a teacher in school."
"Isn't Joseph the one who thinks shift-shaping dinosaurs rule the earth, Cadence?"
"Yeah, both Joseph and Felix for some-"
Lucy coughed loudly into her microphone. She need to stop Cadence and Sally's conversation as soon as possible. They could on for ages and somehow not reveal anything interesting to Lucy.
Sally, who now noticed Lucy's presences looked at her, slighty disgruntled. "Lulu, really. It's not often I talk to Cadence these days. You know how busy my life is?"
"Yeah, yeah, but at least you don't have 250 thousand people waiting for you to release some Five Nights At Freddy's remix video tomorrow."
"Can you please have a sibling argument some other time!" Cadence shouted. Lucy who was wearing headphones out of habit, winced. "We probably should discuss more important things while waiting for Tracey. Lucy, how has picking out someone to bring under our ranks been."
Shit, Lucy though to herself. Wasn't I meant to pick someone out tonight. But I had to get that game from the store. Wait.
"Mmm, yeah. Her name's Jordon. She's in her mid teens and I have checked her out, mmmm." Lucy quickly went on to Facebook and looked up Jordan Rice. She opened up her page and gave it a quick glance. "Yeah, she good."
"So will you talk to her soon. We need a small control group to see if the nail magic thing works on naturally born humans with unicorns auras." Tracey had joined the chat at some point without notice. She was wrapped in a blanket and her thick glasses were steamed up from a cup of a hot brown drink in her hands. "Also, tomorrow, I'm going to try and and do my magic with the poles."
"Really, Tracey." Sally exclaimed. "I thought you wouldn't be doing that for a while."
"Well, now, according to the readings on the equipment, we have decided the poles will be reversing themselves very soon so I must try and fixed the components that are causing magic to act as erratically as it has for the last 780,000 years or so." Tracey sighed. "God, I hope it goes well. I am so glad that soon, the magic buildup in parts of the world will be addressed. If this works the way it should, in ten years or so, we will have at least a million people using magic on a daily basis, if not more."
"You know Tracey, if this does work the way it should, we may have bigger problems to deal with. I know we have been alive since what would be before even the human species as we see today existed, but humans, for a long time, regarded magic as a thing of legends. But what do you think the governments of this world would think of every human in existents today having an aura of a 'mythological creature'. How would they exploit that? I, in my job, have seen people trying to exploit me just because I could get more people to play their game or something."
"Listen, Lucy. I know for now on, once I reconfigure the poles magic system, there will no turning back. Ok. It will be a long road until things will be as close to as things are meant to be but it will be worth it. "
Cadence, finally knowing the state of things, decided to give her opinion. " Ok, Lucy will work with this 'Jordan' and see how will magic will work with naturally born humans, Tracey is working on the mana poles-"
"The proper term is magnetic poles, nowadays."
"Sorry, Twi."
"Don't called me that."
"Ok, ok. Tracey is working on the poles, I assume Sally is working on finding any trace of any friends or foes of times long gone. Sally, any success lately."
"Well, I have gotten a lead on Discord's location just yesterday." Sally said. "From I have got, he's is hiding somewhere in India, under the identity of 'Tom Riddle'. Must love causing all types of chaos with that name."
"I can see him calling himself that. It must annoy him greatly he can't use his chaotic magic often while we can, even if we use all our magic to disguise ourselves. God, tomorrow is going to take a lot out of me. I haven't been able to do simple teleportation in years. Thankfully, according to my calculations, my ability to do complex spells should be restored by next week."
"Well, that is all great. And as usual, I'm working to make all humans at least respect each other, regardless of all these differences they made up. So Sally, what is the story about Joseph and Felix believing in shape shifting dinosaurs ruling the earth again."
Lucy, hearing that and knowing nothing else of importance was going to happen tonight, she exited out of the tab, took off her headphones and got out of her chair and stretched. She looked out of the window, which didnt have the curtains drawn still and looked out at the night sky. She couldn't see any stars, thanks to light pollution, but the moon hung there in the sky as always. A moon she was on before any human stepped on its powdery surface.
Her moon.
Luna closed the curtains, sat down at her computer and began working on her Youtube video for tomorrow.
