Chapters (10 Years Earlier)
"One thing I never understood about dragons is living in a cave. It's dark, it's damp, it can even be cramped at times. But for some reason, it's just comfortable. At least when there's food in it." Draco thinks to himself as he looks around his cave.
As he looks around his empty cave, he asks himself, "Ugh. Why must I be so greedy when it comes to eating gems?" His wings spread. "Now I gotta go get more."
As Draco steps out of my cave, he put a boulder in front of it as a safety precaution. Living with dragons your whole life can give you some trust issues.
"Now, I'm ready to go," he says as he spread my wings and take off to go gem hunting.
Soon, an hour passes and Draco has found nothing. "Oh, come on!" He yells, frustrated as his eyes grow tired. "It was never this hard to go looking for gems before! Ugh! I guess I found all the gems close to home. I don't want to go anywhere else to find them, but I have to no choice."
After flying for another hour, Draco came across a town full of ponies. For some reason, it was snowing there in the middle of the summer. "What is this? Why is it snowing?"
"That's because of me!" calls a light-blue pony from the ground. "Come down!"
Draco lands by the pony and asks her, "You did all this? How?"
"Well, that's my special talent." She says as she shows her snowflake cutie mark. "I can make it snow whenever I want. Especially on hot days like these. I figure these ponies needed to cool down, you know?"
"Very interesting."says Draco. "I always heard horrible things about you ponies. But this...this is wonderful."
The pony giggles and blushes. "T-thank you, sir. By the way, my name is Frost."
Draco bows in respect to her. "I am Draco, Miss Frost. It is nice to meet you."
Frost bows as well. "So what brings you to Ponyville, Draco?"
"Well, I was looking for gems because I ran out, and I happened to pass by here. I have to say, this astounds me, Frost. You are very talented."
Frost blushes again to his comment. "Thank you again, Draco. I have to admit, you're the first to appreciate my talent."
"Other ponies don't?" He asked curiously.
"Well, I see the joy on their faces and they always thank me for what I do," says Frost. "But I don't know. Something doesn't seem right. Maybe I've outlived Ponyville and I should spread my snow to other parts of Equestria."
"Hmm...you know, Frost, the land of dragons gets pretty hot at times. Maybe you could spread your joy there."
Hearing that news made Frost beam with joy. "Really? You mean it?"
Draco smiles at her. "I do."
"But-but what about the other dragons?"
"They may hate ponies, but they wouldn't dare cross me or any friend of mine." Draco says as he shows the flames in his eyes. "Let's just say I have a hidden talent that no other dragon possesses."
"Oh? What is it?"
"I won't say. It's a very rare occasion of I use it at all."
"Aww, ok. Well, shall we go, Draco?"
"Yes." Draco says as he grabs Frost and his wings spread. "Hold on tight, Frost."
Frost immediately wraps her hooves around his body and the two take off.
Frost ran. That was all she could do. She was so scared that running away was the only solution. Eventually, she ended on a cliff and just sat down to cry. As she did so, the sun just started to set and it quickly became nighttime.
"I never should've come out here," she says with tears in her eyes. "I knew no dragon would like me. But I was foolish."
"SNOW FROST!!"
Frost gasps and looks around, becoming even more scared than before. "Who's there?"
A dark blue alicorn soon appears as out of the sky and flies down to her. "Do not be afraid, Frost. It is I, Princess Luna."
"Princess? W-W-What are you doing here? This isn't a dream....is it?"
Luna shakes her head to answer Frost's question. "I'm afraid not. I may visit Ponies' dreams, but I had a vision that you were in need of help. Now, here I am."
Frost didn't respond, as she was still faintly crying and she only hugged Luna.
Luna hugs her back, welcoming her. "Tell me. What is wrong?"
"Dragons...."
"Ah, say no more. I understand. Listen, Frost. I'm aware that a dragon has befriended you. And that you haven't been completely honest with him. Once you do that, he will fully protect you and then you will truly be happy."
Frost nods her head. "I understand. Thank you, Princess."
As Luna wipes Frost's tears and hugs her again, Draco's voice can be heard from beyond. "Frost! Frost, where are you?"
"Be truthful with him, Frost," Luna says as she flies off. "I will always be here for you."
"Goodbye, Princess!" Frost exclaims as she waves goodbye. "And thank you!"
Draco soon finds Frost, still in his giant form. "Frost? Is that you?"
Frost's eyes widen at the sight of Draco, but she realizes that it's him. "Draco? What happened to you?"
Draco looks at his body and says, "I'm not sure. I became this when the other dragons harassed you and drove you off," Draco soon started laughing. "The looks on their faces were priceless."
Frost gives him a weak smile. "You-you scared them off....for me?"
"Why, of course, Frost! You're special to me and I won't let anything hurt you!"
Frost hugs his muzzle after hearing that. "I love you, Draco!"
Draco blushes from hearing this and states, "I love you too." His body starts being covered in flames yet again, but transforms back to his regular state and he hugs Frost back, along with planting a kiss on her cheek."
Frost blushes and giggles from the kiss, then kisses him on the muzzle, and Draco does the same back to Frost.
Luna watches from the sky, smiles at Frost for taking her advice, then flies back to Canterlot.
"Awesome!" I declare, my wings flapping and me in the air for a second or two. "That's gotta be the coolest story I've ever heard, mom and dad! What happened next?"
Draco chuckles and answers, "Well, after that, the other dragons left Frost alone, and she spread her magic throughout this land. Once she did that, they started to accept her. And of course, they also feared me because of my new ability. Over time, I finally controlled it with much frustration and the love and aid of your mother."
My mom giggles and says, "Just remember, Shadow. Everything special about us is in you as well."
My dad nods and adds on, "When you grow older, we believe that you'll use your power for good. And you'll do so many things. We love you, Shadow. And we're proud of you everyday."
Tears come to my eyes and I stand and hug them both. "I love you guys!"
Mom and Dad hug me back and answer, "We love you too, son."
"Shadow, could you come here?" asked my father Draco, a dark red anthropomorphic dragon with the ability to transform into a giant dragon. Trust me, I've seen that form as a colt and it's scary.
"Mom, dad, what's up?"I walked up to him and my mother, Snow Frost(even though she only preferred Frost), who was a bright blue unicorn with a snowflake for a full tie mark. She was very powerful unicorn and her power was one to be reckoned with. If anypony or dragon made her angry, she could freeze them forever or give them a permanent cold that would never warm. But that's rarely happened. My mother was a gentle spirit; instead, she uses her magic to channel snow on a hot day. She loved seeing the joy on everypony's faces when she did that.
"Sit down, son."said my mother. "Your father and I figured it was time to tell you of how he and I met."
"Ok." I say as I sit down.
"Now listen closely, son." Says my father. "You'll need to remember everything."
I nod my head. "I'm ready."
"Ok." Says my parents. "This is how it began."
"Here we are, Frost," Draco says as they land. "This is the land of Dragons."
Frost immediately starts sweating. "Oh my, it's really hot here. Then again, it could also be my nervousness."
Draco hugs her. "You'll be fine."
Frost blushes and hugs him back. "Thank you, Draco."
As they hug, two dragons come before them. "Draco! Good to see you, buddy--what is that pony doing here?!"
Frost whimpers and hides behind Draco, who steps forward and confronts the fellow dragons. "She's here because I brought her here. What's the problem here?"
"The problem is that she's a pony! Ponies don't belong out here!" Hearing this comment causes Frost to run away crying and in fear. "See? Look at her run away like the namby-pamby pony she is!"
As Draco turns to see that Frost is now gone, his eyes glow red and he turns back to the other dragons in rage. "Get out of my sight! NOW!!"
The two dragons only laugh at him. "Or what? You gonna burn us?"
Draco's body soon becomes covered in flames. "What?! What's happening to me?!" The flames soon engulf him entirely and his body grows to one of a gigantic dragon. He looks at his new body, dumbfounded at the transformation, but angrier than usual. "I don't know what just happened," he says as he looks down to the other two dragons, who are now trembling in fear at the sight of him. "But you better get out of here now, and don't bother Frost again! Or else!"
The two dragons simply nod their heads, since the fear has taken their ability to speak, and they fly off. Draco then huffs to himself after they leave. "Stupid dragons," He says as he turns around. "Gotta go find Frost."
