I wrote this on a whim. I woke up one morning and was like. What if and ran off with it. This is the product.
What?
Twilight walks through the peaceful stone hallway leading to Canterlot's throne room owned and protected by The Grand Princess Celestia. The gentle morning sunlight that she provides bounces off the stone floor and walls, casting a warm glow against everything it touches. It warms her body to the core as she thinks over all of the information that has been brought forward to her just a few minutes ago. Celestia had sent her a letter asking for her to report to the throne room without her friends and she hasn't done this since... since she became a princess of Equestria.
She bites her lip as she stops before the very doors that will lead to whatever Celestia has planned for her. She looks out one of the many giant windows of the hall to see Canterlot, also known as the City of Stone, bellow her. The Pegasi fly and the Unicorns go about their business as if nothing could ever disrupt their "above-average lives". She was once like that with her friends, but things have certainly changed from when she was a foal. She's grown wings for one thing and stronger bones as well. Plus her magic capabilities have really gone through the roof. She never knew she could be so powerful before, but then again she hasn't lived as long as Celestia and Luna.
Yet, she knows that the simple training to help her get better with these things is not what the controller of the sun has called her here for. It's been a day since she sent in her last friendship letter, and she has a funny feeling that it has something to do with Starlight Glimmer's magic and the time spell that was being used. Time magic, for obvious reasons, has been banned for quite a long time, so Celestia probably wants to talk about punishment for Starlight. Twilight doesn't want to punish the rogue unicorn, but if it's Celestia's orders....
She looks towards the impressive doors once more and takes a deep breath.
"It's now or never, Twilight..." She mutters to herself as she releases her held breath.
With head held high, she pushes the doors open with her magic as she struts into the room. Inside, she finds Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer smiling at her from their seated position beside Celestia. Twilight grows a curious look as she closes the doors behind her and walks slowly forward.
"Hey, Twilight!" Sunset Shimmer says, "Long time no see right?"
"Y-Yea..." Twilight says feeling uneasy yet happy to see her friend from another world.
She had prepared herself for a debate on whether or not Starlight needed a punishment, but now with these two here and Celestia holding a stoic face... she isn't too sure what's about to come across the field today. Starlight and Sunset take a seat beside Twilight as she sits down in front of Celestia. Celestia gives them all a loving look before clearing her throat.
"Twilight. I have called you here for the same reason I have called Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer. I have very important matters to discuss and they should not leave this room until we are ready to disclose such information. What we're going to talk about right now may very well reshape the history of everything you know." Celestia says causing Twilight's eyes to go wide.
A national secret? Spoken to the three of them!?
"Pull it together, Twilight." Sunset says nuzzling the beginning to hyperventilate Twilight, "Celestia just likes to go overboard. Though we should just keep it between us four."
Twilight nods as she tries to regain her breath. She does the breathing technique she learned from Cadence and regains her composure. All three of them look up to the governor of the sun and their lives. Celestia looks at each and every one of them in the eyes before taking a deep breath.
"Before I tell you. There is a rule, as unspoken as it is, between us Alicorns. That we shall never conceive foals." Celestia says before stopping to mull over how she should go about her next words.
Due to this, her words sink into the air. They play over in Twilight's head, but she can't seem to put two plus two together quite yet. She looks at the two beside her and finds them looking at her smiling. It's... eerie as well as comforting when she thinks about it. When it came to problems, she's always had the hardest time dealing with Starlight and Sunset. And everything else was like... child play.
"Do you know why I say this, Twilight?" Celestia asks walking down from the throne.
"I...I don't really know why... I have several ideas and theories, but..."
"Than voice thy thoughts, Twilight." A voice all too familiar says behind her.
The three turn around to see Luna standing in front of the closed entranceway. None of them heard the door open, but Celestia saw her sister come in. Twilight bites her bottom lip and looks down. She thinks over her answer for a moment before looking up.
"Did... did your mother break the rule for you? Or did one of you break the rule?" Twilight asks.
Celestia and Luna look at each other before chuckling. Luna sits behind the two unicorns and one Alicorn.
"No. She didn't." Luna says chuckling, "Our birth into Alicorn hood is another story for another day. I'll let you know that one can't be born an Alicorn."
"Oh... Then... how would anyone know if an Alicorn broke a rule?" Twilight asks finding the subject a lot more engaging now and noting that her second question was never answered.
"Simple. They'd give birth to a foal or filly that has much much more talent for whatever they're born at. An Earth Pony that could bend the earth at the whim, a Pegasus that could flap her wings and do the impossible, or a unicorn that has seemingly limitless power." Celestia says sitting down in front of the three.
Twilight shoots to her hooves, "Was Starswirled the Bearded a foal of an Alicorn!?"
"Starswirl may have made a lot of spells, but he couldn't test them out by himself. He usually had more than himself testing the spells out for good reasons. Again, another topic we'll touch on later." Luna says.
"Right..." Twilight says sitting down and thinking it over.
"Come on, Twilight!" Starlight starts, "What othersuper powerful Unicorns can you think of?"
Twilight stays quiet for a moment before shaking her head.
"Really, Twilight?" Sunset says rolling her eyes, "I'm surprised a protege like you can't get this."
"I'm trying, okay!?" Twilight says flapping her wings slightly in annoyance.
"Would you like us to tell you?" Luna asks.
Twilight nods her head and watches as Luna stands before her sister.
"It's you three. You three were born from Alicorns."
Sunset and Starlight look towards Twilight for her reaction. She sits there for a moment and opens her mouth, but her brain quickly pieces things together for her. Her eyes go wide and her mouth moves, but no words come out. She hits the floor on her back completely knocked out.
Sunset and Starlight get up and look over their fallen sister.
"Well, I think she took it pretty well," Luna says with a chuckle.
