A remembered tale

Once upon a time,

          Two great princesses ruled. One controlled the sun,while the other the moon. But one day the younger one was stricken with great jealousy, the ponies cherished and played in the morning but shunned her night. The elder tried to calm her angry sibling, until the younger one turned into a ferocious beast named Nightmare Moon. The elder knowing her job banished the beast to the moon, and from then on she ruled both night and day.

“Save me!” A mare shouted, tears coming down her eyes. “Tell my family-not including that evil sister of mine-I love them!”

        The mare picked up a book labeled ‘Luna’s Diary’. Tears obviously streaming down her eyes. She opened the book with a blue aura of magic and began reading. Her words slow and insecure.

~~~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~~~

   Luna walked down the long hall slowly and scared. Her sister had ordered her to the playroom at 10:00 a.m sharp, no later and she would get beat up. As Luna opened the door her sister waited impatiently. Luna quickly glanced at the clock. What she saw made her quickly cry, 10 minutes late. Celestia quickly went after her sister. Luna instantly attempted to fly away, but she was too weak.

  “Please celestia don’t hurt me i’ll give you anything! I promise!” The younger one shouted as her elder struck her down from the air. Tears quickly covered her eyes as she covered her cheek with a hoof… the place her sibling punched her unconscious yesterday. Celestia had an evil smirk on her face.

“Anything dear sister?” Celestia asked the weaker one under her.

“Yes, just don’t beat me up!”

  “Even that brand new cutie mark?” Luna eyes quickly perked up as she looked down on the two day old cutie mark. Her eyes teared up yet again. She didn’t want a beating nor lose her cutie mark. Her sister was so cruel, she didn’t want pain or be a disgrace. When finally she made a decision.

  “No,” She simply said, sudden bravery covering her face. “Neither,” Luna saw Celestia’s face fill with rage. Celestia opened her mouth and lunged at Luna. Luna quickly curled up as Celestia grabbed the small filly’s left wing with her teeth, pulling it roughly. Celestia just stood there every intention to bring horrible pain to the filly. Luna closed her eyes as the horrible saw like feeling burnt through her left  wing and upper torso. A crack was heard before Luna closed her eye’s and fell to the ground fainted.

  The mare closed the book and dropped it. She went out of the shadows and revealed a dark blue alicorn with a starry light blue mane. Red eyes from crying. Her right cheek with a long scar. Suddenly she instantly fell to the ground dead.

   “AHHHHHHHHHHH!” Yelled Luna as she woke up from her dreadful nightmare and memories. Tears swelled her eyes as 8 guards ran into the room. All wearing dark blue or dark purple armour, with a star emblem. A light gray unicorn captain was the first to speak.

   “My princess whats wrong! Enemies?! Thief?! Or even a murderer!” A captain shouted as he readied a laser blaster. But the expression Luna had on was pure sadness nothing an enemy could bring. Luna turned her head left towards the guards revealing a scar on the right cheek. Yet again the unicorn captain spoke first.

   “I’m sorry Luna I’m a bit off center today,” The captain said before passing Luna a tissue. “My regards princess but we have to build some more prisms later today!” The guards left the room as Luna cried. No one loved her only her parents… even her followers didn’t know the real mare. Luna shut off her light and went to sleep crying hard.

~~~~~~~(900 years later){Where the story takes place}~~~~~~~

   Luna was excited Twilight and her friends are now grown mares taking on responsibilities...and new issues. Today is also the day when she was going to make a young stallion her personal guard. As Luna jumped out of her bed she slipped on her favorite imperial dress, dark blue with a beautiful white lace. Luna however was in no rush and looked out her only window she fell into a small trance as she saw the stars gleaming outside the prism. A sudden familiar knock awoke her from the trance.

“Come in,” She said happily. And was happy when her best friend Captain Mars, an earth pony mare came into said room. They quickly greeted each other before discussing the events.

“It’s time Luna, to pick your personal guard!” Mars said with great excitement. “But why didn’t I even get mentioned!”

“You can announce the events dear friend,” Luna said calmly. Captain Mars gave her a weird look before talking.

“Good enough old pal,” Captain Mars replied.

“YOU CALLING ME OLD!” Luna yelled.

“No!” Mars said before laughing. Luna also soon joined into the laughter too.

Luna and Captain Mars stopped laughing and walked into the hallways of the Stellar Kingdom. As they reached the training grounds of the castle Luna noticed exactly 30 stallions waiting to be assigned as a personal guard or a regular soldier. Tall ones, short ones, unicorns, pegasi, earth ponies, zebras and so many more. 80 ponies wanting to watch the event came ready to see strong stallions compete.

“Everypony may I have your attention,” Luna pronounced, 70 of the spectators listening. “Today is a special day for some stallions today, to see who shall become my personal guard!”

“The events will include agility, fighting, and the last ponies will fight all the captains including Neptune,” Mars added. Several stallions gulped, Neptune was the strongest stallion in history… and he was still growing.

“First will be Agility,” Luna announced proudly. Luna looked at the possibilities all so brave.

As the ponies started their long agility race too many of the pegasi and bat ponies were confident. But a certain unicorn was nervous. Mercury ran as fast as he could and just barely managed to arrive in 15th place. Mercury at his age still had no cutie mark costing several jobs and 10 girlfriends. The 15 stallions were given an hour to rest and some strong coffee. Mercury was nervous for the next event, which would be fighting no matter what.

“Next is fighting competitors my dear ponies!” Luna screamed loudly. Mercury gulped. Why did he even try out for this in the first place?!

Mercury was given unicorn armor, a pair of laser nunchucks, and a energy sword. His enemy was a Zebra named Goliath, dressed in Zebra war armor. The aggressive zebra gave Mercury one good look before chuckling. Mercury raised the nunchucks. Ding! Mercury flung his heavy nunchucks at Goliath. Goliath simply dodged them as Mercury feared his life. Goliath picked up a ninja star and flung it at Mercury’s throat. Mercury focused a force field and reflected the shot. He picked up his sword and rammed into Goliath, who quickly bit him on the ear. The zebra simply kicked the unicorn off. Thud! Mercury grabbed his energy sword once again and hit it into the side of Goliath, who fell to the ground before coming back up. Mercury charged once more before kicking Goliath with all his strength. Goliath soared for a moment before falling outside the arena. Goliath opened his eyes as he realised he lost. Mercury cried for his victory...now all was left was fighting Neptune and the other guards… until Goliath came back.

Whack! A large blast of black and white pushed Mercury to the floor, several of the crowd cheered at the sudden attack. Mercury bit onto the zebras tail and pulled not letting go. This earned a scream and kick from Goliath. Mercury fell a meter or two before releasing a small burst of magic from his horn. Goliath threw two ninja stars at the unicorn and laughed evilly. The unicorn felt pain shoot through his left leg as he look down at it. Blood already on the ground. Mercury did what he seemed to do best scream and charge.

Goliath fell to the floor, hooves in his ears. When suddenly a sharp yet quick pain knocked him out. The crowd cheered the stallions name happy and excited. As Mercury left the arena a familiar pegasus stared at him with a jerky face. A female bat pony stole his attention and started joking around with him.

“Break my dear followers!” Luna shouted for encouragement. Mercury noticed he was the only unicorn stallion left. And there were more captains than him… He closed his eyes to escape the aching pain. As the ground met his face.

Mercury awoke to find Luna looking down at him. He quickly bowed.

“No need my dear stallion,” Luna said. Mercury got up. “So you're the only unicorn stallion left am i right?”

“Yes princess,” Mercury replied. Luna went up to Mercury before giving him a hug. Mercury blushed before Luna let him go. Luna gave a flush of magic before disappearing. And Mercury soon woke up.

Mercury jumped out of the brown cott he was sleeping in and slipped on his armor, the other adversary ready and excited. As he entered the arena he saw all the commanders, weapons and royal armor ready. Ding! The ponies around the unicorn quickly went to fighting. Mercury stared in front of him and it was a nightmare.

        Neptune was coming right for him! A sudden thud and a burning sensation entered his stomach. Mercury kicked in scorching pain as he soared across a yard of ground. A flash of dark blue came over over him before painfully biting on Mercury’s top left shoulder. Pain was the only thing that shot through to the weaker unicorn’s brain. Neptune stopped biting before kicking Mercury backwards.

“Fight ya big fat wimp!” Neptune yelled at Mercury. The brown unicorn got up and grabbed the  nunchucks on his left flank, while Neptune held his energy sword. Jupiter done with her own opponent approached Neptune and started spectating the fight, clear boredom in her face. Mercury lifted his head, charged at Neptune, and brought down the almost magical nunchucks to the pegasus’s head. Crack! A solid scream filled the air. Not Neptune’s, Mercury’s.

Mercury fell to his side, revealing a large cut on his chest. Neptune walked up to Mercury, not a worry in his face. He kicked Mercury in his gut before going to fight another stallion. The unicorn looked at ground spitting up blood. Jupiter got up and walked alongside her best friend, who ran towards a large zebra.

“Knew that freaking unicorn was a wimp,” Neptune stated matter of factly.

“Get your flank back here!” A voice yelled. Neptune turned behind him to see something that made his eyes go wide. Mercury’s eyes were red, a state they rarely went into. Neptune couched down and signaled for the stubborn stallion to come run towards him. Mercury teleported before delivering a punch to the pegasus’s face. Neptune blew a gust of wind towards the unicorn knocking him down, he then spat into the ground before him before taking out his energy sword again. Mercury closed his eyes before delivering a teleportation spell. Neptune flung his sword before a disappointment filled his face.

Mercury pushed Neptune to the ground, pinning him. Neptune just kicked the stallion on top of him. The unicorn swooshed his head up collecting power before pointing it to the dark blue pony underneath him. Light blinded everypony as the strong magic dimmed. And to everyponies surprise a light brown unicorn was staring at a blue fur. Mercury turned his head as the anger disappeared. But everyponies cheers and smiles soon faded into gasps. A few ponies even pointed jaw legitimately on the floor. Luna sat there looking for what the crowd saw when something caught her eye.

“LOOK!”

Mercury turned to Neptune to see that the pegasuses eyes had turn pure white. Mercury felt a barrage of unknown attacks before falling to the ground. His stomach burning with unbearable pain. A few ponies ewed as he vomited. He felt someone whisper to his ears before fainting.

“I always win ‘champ’… never be on the wrong side of the law ok,”

“Jerky stupid unicorns,”

~~~~~~A day later~~~~~~

Mercury woke up in a hospital room and saw a nurse with a healing tea. What Mercury noticed is that the nurse was interested in him in different ways.

“Oh my Luna! Senpai noticed me!” She said before fainting. Mercury just stared at her for what seemed like an hour when a knock at the door startled him.

“Come in,” Mercury said sorely. In came Princess Luna and all 5 of the captains. Captain Mars seemed to be holding an imperial guard outfit. While Jupiter and Neptune gave him a very sour look. Luna went up along side the bed and hugged Mercury.

“Welcome Captain Mercury you are new, welcome the Captain of the unicorns too,” Sang the small group. “We hope you have a good time, but nothing rhymes with time,”

“What about mime?” Neptune asked. A bat-pony punched him in the stomach playfully before laughing. “You're gonna pay for that,”

As the two flew out the room chasing each other the ponies gave him his new armor and a badge. As Mercury jumped out of the bed he noticed Luna giving him a strange look. Mars helped Mercury adjust to the new armor as the other ponies went to planning a surprise party.

“When am I gonna start training Mars?” Mercury asked excited. Mars gave him a quick glance before continuing her work. She rose her head again, rummaging through her bag.

“Take this first,” She said holding up an army like knife. Just at the sight of it Mercury shivered. When he remembered, he just had surgery after fighting the kingdoms strongest stallion. The stallions eyes darted around looking for a garbage can. When none was spotted he just vomited on the floor. A solid slap was given to the stallion.

“Bad captain, if your gonna vomit, vomit outside!” Mars yelled at the new captain. Mercury just took the hit and didn’t complain. Mercury hesitantly took the knife from the mare. Mars woke up the nurse, who cleaned up the mess. The earth pony took Mercury by the hoof and dragged him into the training fields, where Neptune and Jupiter happened to be waiting. Neptune was joking around with Jupiter before they caught sight of Mercury.

“Stay here rookie,” Mars commanded. Mercury made a frown he was no rookie. New but not a rookie. But as commanded he waited, he saw what seemed like millions and billions of ponies training. One in particular was a rainbow maned mare. She seemed to fly around like she was a captain. A thought crossed Mercury’s mind.

‘If Neptune sees this how will he react?!’ But when Mercury raised his mouth to tell the mare to cool it… a dark blur of fur answered.

“What do you mean cool it you know I should be the freaking captain of the pegasi guards!” The pegasus mare yelled.

“Cool it you rookie, or you’ll get kicked!” Neptune shouted trying to be somewhat nice. Several of the pegasi training stopped and gave the mare a stare.

“No you stupid stubborn stallion,”

“ROOKIE I SAID STAND DOWN!”

“NO!”

A sudden smack filled the air as Neptune got slapped. All the pegasi guards grabbed their weapons and charged at the mare.

“Oh crap!” She yelled as she fell off. Mercury focused a spell and released it trapping all pegasi (and Bat-ponies) in place. Neptune stared Mercury clearly angry. A few of the ponies started yelling at Mercury when he spoke.

“You! In the rainbow mane what is your name!” Mercury yelled.

“Shut up I don’t take orders from you I’m too cool for this job!”

“Tell me for I am the princess’ personal guard!”

“Fine! I’m Rainbow Dash!”

“Thank you!”

As Mercury continued listening to the mares story he wanted to block his ears out. Dared to act like a captain Neptune. Lie pure lies. Mercury’s magic began to lose a grip so he magically chained the mare up before setting the Pegasi down.

“You are going to listen to Captains and Princess Luna now you got that!” Mercury yelled at her. “Cause any problems and you’ll be locked away!” Mercury released the magical chains and walked towards the castle,mad at the prism.

“Can’t believe he actually fell for that stupid lie.” His ears picked up.

“Chill off Rainbow he nearly defeated Neptune.”

“Well I deserve to be captain of the Pegasi.”

“But if you fail you're no longer considered a pegasus.”

“Enough!! If you're so concerned with being a Captain then I’ll fight you!” Mercury heard Neptune shout.

His attention went to the two aggressive pegasi. This just made Mercury mad… too mad.

“Know what, I’m tired of ponies calling me stupid, clumsy, lousy, worthless, Rainbow Dash it is going to be just me and you! Pony to pony!”

Tears streamed down Mercury’s eyes. He picked up his head, as he faced the foolish mare. He felt somewhat ashamed. Ding! Rainbow Dash quickly pinned her oppnent. He closed his eyes and blasted magic into the mares face. As Rainbow dash looked around she found she had no wings. Panic quickly took over her face.

“Wth what aHH! MY LUNA MY POOR WINGS YOU JERK WHY MY WINGS GIVE THEM BACK !” She screamed.

“For three days *Huff* you will train *Huff* like a pegasus with no *Huff* wings, misbehave and I’ll hold it off *Huff* for longer.” Mercury said as he calmly got up. He soon fell to the floor again. Neptune, Mars, and Jupiter hurriedly carried Mercury to his room.

“Never seen a rookie act like that.” Jupiter said.

“Which one Mercury or Rainbow Dash?” Mars asked.

“Both.” Neptune answered

“Quite tough huh?”

“I came as quickly as I heard!” Luna yelled as she reached Mercury’s light blue and grey room, flanked by Venus.

“How much magic did he use!” Venus yelled.

“Enough to turn a pegasus into an earth pony, trap all the ponies with wings into one space, and magic chains.” Neptune said bored and amazed at all that power usage.

“An illegal magic move AND STUPID ENOUGH TO USE THAT MUCH MAGIC YOU SIR ARE GONNA BE SUSPENDED FOR A FEW DAYS… OR YEARS!” An angry Venus yelled.

Everypony but Mercury seemed to start slowly moving towards the door, staring at the angry zebra stallion. Venus slipped Mercury some sleeping induced aspirin. Venus ushered the other captains outside the room before he himself stepped out. Leaving Luna and Mercury alone.

“It may be illegal but I excuse my personal guard,” Luna whispered before hugging her new friend. She joined the rest of the captain for a quick chat. Mercury was tired and was probably gonna get no respect from the captains but did he care? No he had a princess to back him up.

Two minutes later it was called a night for the Stellar Kingdom.Luna slipped into her room dead tired from the events.First a pony named Star Matter abuses a filly in public,then AppleJack says the crops are slowly going bad,and finally a colt starts a major ruckus causing all of the prism 2 resident to chase him into prism 1.

Luna slipped out of the usual imperial dress,and put on her favorite midnight gown.She walked to the mirror and examined her face.Messy hair as always at evening.Normal Luna… Except for the scar.Luna felt several tears drip down her eyes before diving into her pillow.She held it close before falling into a light sleep.

“Celestia my dear baby what happened!?”A voice called out.

“Luna fell down the stairs!”Celestia lied.”She bit me and I chased her down the stairs,”

“I’ll use a simple healing spell to help her but anymore injuries and this filly could end up getting killed,”The voice replied.She used a healing spell and carried Luna to bed.Luna caught a glimpse of the pure green and natural fur carrying her.The figure put her down into the bed and kissed her cheek.

“Good night dear,”The voice said before the doors closed leaving the room black and silent.Using a weak light spell she grabbed a toy out of the toy box,revealing a unicorn stallion.Her favorite toy.She held it close before sleeping peacefully.
