Rainbow Dash sighed as she stopped yet again to wait for Fluttershy to catch up. "Come on 'Shy!" she called back, "If you don't hurry we'll never make it to the top of the mountain before night fall!"

Fluttershy sighed softly and tried to pick up the pace. "I'm sorry Rainbow Dash but this is as fast as I can-" she was cut off by something.

Rainbow Dash blinked, "Shy?" She tried to recapture the shy pink maned flyer's attention. "Fluttershy." she tried again, that's when she saw it, a small bundle of fluff was walking towards the edge of a nearby cliff. "Whoa!" she cried out.

Fluttershy's eyes went wide about the same time, she'd finally discovered the source of the sound that had distracted her. "Oh my goodness!" she cried as she took off to try and stop the small creature, this time leaving Rainbow Dash to catch up with her.

Fluttershy was almost half way to the cliff, and by default the small creature, by the time Rainbow Dash had reached her. Both mares flew on, straining against the mountain winds to reach what ever was perched on the cliff in time. But they were seconds to late, the small creature fell over the edge, her forelegs reaching out for something in the sky beyond.

Rainbow Dash froze up, her eyes widening at what she had just seen happen, but Fluttershy kept going. Angling into a nose dive Fluttershy went after the falling bundle of fluff and fur. She reached it just as it would have hit another cliff face, grabbing it just in time to pull up and save them both. Now that she had the small creature Fluttershy flew back up to Rainbow Dash at a much slower rate.

Rolling her eyes Rainbow dove down a bit to meet the shy Pegasus half way. Rainbow opened her mouth to speak, but was rendered speechless at what she saw in front of her. "'Shy is that a baby griffon?" she asked in utter disbelief. Fluttershy looked down at the bundle in her hooves, and sure enough staring up at her with teary eyes, downy fluff and all, was a newly hatched baby griffin.

Rainbow looked from Fluttershy to the baby griffin, to Fluttershy, and back again. While Fluttershy on the other hand was holding the hatchling close cooing to her in a soft voice and trying to stop both her tears and the blood that oozed from where here wings used to be.
