Battlecry had held his swelling emotions in check while Fluttershy’s friends had been there, but as soon as they were out of sight tears began to stream down his face. He embraced his sister with his forelegs and whispered silently to her “I thought I would never see you again.” He laid his muzzle on her neck and sobbed.

“Why’d you leave?” His composure was coming back and his voice growing increasingly serious.

“Because I didn’t want a life of violence.” A burst of determination filled her response.

“You mean they broke their promise?” His words were spoken coldly but his eyes burned with unbridled fury.

“Yes,” she squeaked in reply. “They thought I had it as well and..” she was reluctant to speak further but continued none the less. “ They arranged for the other foals to pick on me in hopes of awakening it.”

The anger in his voice seemed to die but his presence was a surge of rage. “ I will meet the rest of your friends tomorrow and you can say goodbye.” Fluttershy took a few steps back, the expression on her face said that she didn’t want to leave. Battlecry gave a sigh and a slight smile. “I don’t mean permanently, we’ll be gone a day or two at most.”

The yellow pegasus’ voice was softer than normal. “Um.. okay. Where are we going?” Her mumbling would have been lost to the ears of anypony else, but Battlecry understood her perfectly.

“To get an apology.” There was a cruel deviousness to his tone that unnerved Fluttershy. She knew all too well how her brother could be.

“It’s ok, I forgive them. They don’t need to apologize.” Fluttershy’s words were full of anxiety, she knew exactly where this was going and wanted to avoid it if at all possible.

“You may have, but I haven’t. They put you in danger, they broke their promise, and because of them I haven’t seen you in ten years.” Pure hatred exuded from him as the words came from his muzzle.
“Fine.”
Battlecry’s mode instantly became one of great joy as a smile crossed his face. “But we do it my way.” And with those few words his smile gave way to a bitter scowl.

“You and your peaceful compromises.” Fluttershy shot him an assertive glare. “Alright we’ll do it your way,” Battlecry stated with a heavy sigh.

The two headed towards Fluttershy’s cottage. She offered to let him stay, he accepted but insisted that he sleep on the couch. There was little other talking done on the way there. As soon as they were inside Battlecry collapsed onto the couch falling asleep instantly. Fluttershy looked at him with a smile. “Ten years and you're still the same,” she said solemnly to herself.

Twilight wasn’t able to sleep. What she saw today had given her far too much to think about. “How was he doing that? That kind of speed shouldn’t be possible for anypony to reach.” She asked herself while poring through books looking for the answer. He had looked like he was teleporting, but that was a very high level spell, not to mention the fact that he wasn’t even a unicorn. On top of that he claimed to have defeated an ursa major but unlike Trixie he had proof, there is nothing else that tooth could have came from.

“Every single thing about him raises more and more questions.” Twilight was irritated with the lack of results her research was turning up. “Uurrrgh, why is there nothing in this library about this stormblood or whatever it is that thug called him. I guess I’ll just have to wait till tomorrow and ask him.” No sooner than she had said it, light began to peek through the library’s windows.

When the sun was high in the sky they all began to gather at the library. Twilight couldn’t wait to have her curiosity satisfied, her excitement was rivaled only by Pinkie’s, who without a doubt probably wanted to throw Battlecry a party. When everyone had arrived they began where they had left off the previous day.

“Pleasure meetin’ ya, names Applejack, and I run Sweet Apple Acres.”

“Is that it?” Battlecry asked puzzled.

“Yup, I don’t care too much fer braggin’.”

“Hhhm, modesty, that’s are rare commodity these days.”

“Why thank ya kindly.”

“Ooh, ooh, does that mean it’s my turn?” The pink pony was ecstatic and literally bouncing off the walls.

“I reckon,” was Applejack’s only response.

“YAY. I’m Pinkie Pie, I work at Sugarcube Corner, do you like parties because I love to throw parties and if you like parties, then that means I can throw you a party.”

“Sorry, I’m not that fond of parties and I don’t plan on staying too long.”
Pinkie’s face drooped and Battlecry instantly regretted what he said as Pinkie started crying loudly. “Now hold on a second, I never said you couldn’t throw one for me.” Pinkie’s mood changed back to happy faster than a heartbeat.

“In that case, I better get started right away!” The pink party pony exclaimed as she dashed out the door.

“Well that was… strange” Battlecry was dumbstruck by how quickly the pink mare’s mood could change.

“I guess it’s my turn now,” Twilight said as the promise of new knowledge caused her mind to wonder what sort of secrets she’d learn from this stranger, who claimed to be Fluttershy’s brother. “My name is,” she was cut off.

“Twilight Sparkle, I know” Battlecry stated nonchalantly, but everypony else in the room seemed surprised.

“How do you know my name?” Twilight asked

“Because I know your brother.” Was his simple response, but he could tell from the look on Twilight’s face that she wanted to know how he knew her brother as well. “I’m the former second in command and leader of the pegasus branch of the royal guard.”

“Former?” All present except for Fluttershy and Battlecry asked at once; Pinkie even managed to be there before vanishing again.

“Yes, former. As of last year, I took my rightful place as captain of the night guard. Now before you question me further, I have a story that will probably answer all of your questions and more.”

“It all began ten years ago.”
