My cabin wasn't really all that great. It was a simple dwelling at the very edge of the town line. It was cozy none the less, with one bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, and a porch that wrapped around it like a war, hug. The building was hard to spot due to the fact that the logs it was made out of matched the surrounding trees. It was a magnificent hide away from the world. It was perfect. No one bothered me unless it was something important and/or if they needed help.
But enough about my dwelling. You probably want to hear about me. I'm nothing special, just your everyday average twenty two year old guy. I work at my mother's coffee shop. I've been the same way sense I graduated high school. Tall, built, brown hair and eyes. See, nothing special. Unless you count being a Brony special.
The day my life changed was an interesting one. I had just finished a rough shift at the coffee shop, complete with a new coffee stain on my southern parts. The first thing I did when I got home was take a shower to get the coffee off of my body. After making sure my burns weren't bad, and walked out of the bathroom and into my kitchen. I loved to cook and bake, so the area was full of cooking utensils. As I reheated a piece of pizza in the microwave, I made my way out into the living room and turned on my TV. It was Saturday, which meant that another episode of pastel colored ponies was going to being released.
It's a weird thing to admit, but My Little Pony saved me from the dullness of my life. Before I came across the show, all my day consisted of was working, eating, and sleeping. I was, in loss of a better term, bored out of my mind from the repeating routine. So, I decide to finally get cable for my TV and, well, now I'm here. A piece of old pizza in my hand with the remote in the other. I hummed along to the theme song and settled back into my chair, ready for the new episode to begin.
Then the power went out.
I cursed, almost throwing my pizza at the screen. I looked outside the window to see a downpour of rain accompanied with thunder. Putting my food down, I went around my house and unplugged every electrical thing in my house, making sure that the surge protecters did their job. Well, I had thought to myself, I guess I'm reading a book instead.
I woke up in the couch to the sound of fire crackling. I shot out of my slumber, dropping my book to the floor. I looked around at my surroundings, expecting to see the red hotness of a blazing fire. But there was none. Odd. . . My attention turned to the TV screen, which was glowing all sorts of colors. What in the. . .what? I stood, keeping my eyes on the rainbow in front of me.
"What are you?" I asked to the screen.
The only response was the crackle of a fire.
Blood rushed to my face as I realized how foolish my question was. It's a Tv. It won't answer me. I shook my embarrassment away and re focused my thoughts. Is it still plugged in? No, I remember unplugging it. But how is it glowing? Maybe it's a. . .no, don't be silly Chris, it's only a TV.
Suddenly, as if on cue, the portal blazed a bright white, blinding me. I threw my hands up over my face to protect my eyes. Stumbling backwards, I fell onto the couch and waited for the light to fade. There was a whir, followed by more crackling, then a thunk, and finally a click. I lowered my arms, the light being gone now, and shook my head to shake off the shock. Okay, now that was weird.
As I walked back up to the TV, I noticed a figure on the floor. It seemed to be a woman; she was naked. I froze for a moment before approaching her. Where did she come from? The TV? I kneeled down and inspected her body. She seems to be okay. "Um. . ."hello? A-are you okay?" I asked sheepishly, reaching a hand out to her shoulder.
As I touched her, she whimpered and shivered. She feel red hot and ice cold at the same time. I wasn't sure if I should get her a blanket or some ice. I asked again, "Are you okay?"
She lifted her head, her light pink hair hiding everything but her eyes. I knew those eyes. They were shy and timid, but yet they were kind. "I-I, um. . ." she started in an all too familiar voice. "Could I get, um, a b-blanket?"
I pulled a blanket off of my rocking chair and covered her. "Here you go. . .if you don't mind me asking, where did you come from?"
"I-I, um. . .I don't really know." she sat up, wrapping the blanket around her. "Wh-where am I?"
"You're in Appleton Wisconsin."
She looked at me in complete confusion. "Wisconsin? I don't know any town called Wisconsin. A-are we close to the Everfree Forest?"
I froze in shock. "Y-you're from Equestria?"
"Mhm. Why? Are we in another kingdom?" her eyes darted around the room. "I-I've never been outside of Equestia before. . ."
"Ooohh my god." I ran a shaky hand through my hair. "How. . .what is your name?"
She seemed to hesitate, no knowing if she should trust me. "M-my name is Fluttershy."
Questions We Need to Answer
I could only stare at the woman in front of me as we ate. She had fallen out of my television only three hours before. Her hair was pink and her eyes were an endless pool of kindness. She ate gracefully, taking small bites of the salad I had placed in front of her. Her hands fumbled with the leaves as she brought them to her mouth; her fork sat unused next to the bowl. I swirled my reheated soup absentmindedly.
She caught my eye briefly before looking down. "Um. . .Chris?" she asked through her hair.
"Yes?" Every muscle in my body shot to attention.
"Could you explain what happened again? I-I don't mean to bother you, but I'm still confused." she looked up and made eye contact with me. For the first time, she kept my gaze.
"My TV," I pointed to the thing behind me, "was crackling and changing all sorts of colors. Then it acted up, flashed really bight, and you showed up on my floor. . .I'm just as confused as you, Fluttershy." I sipped at a spoonful of chicken flavored broth.
She nodded, chewing on a carrot. She seemed lost in thought.
