Prologue
Load Full StoryAt about midnight, a lavender unicorn sat curled up on her bed, holding a book in front of her. Spike was in his own bed beside her, fast asleep. Knowing that she just could not stop studying yet, the unicorn, Twilight Sparkle, found another book. It was bookmarked at a certain page, she had left off towards the end the night before.
Flipping the book open, Twilight's eyes ran through the pages. Soon enough, a certain heading caught her eye. 'The Everian Disaster', this chapter was titled. Reading down, she saw a picture of a mahogany colored fruit. It was shaped mostly like an apple, but had a pear-like bottom, round and plumb. Yet, it's middle was very thin. It looked sweet, yet sour. The stem that sprouted from the top curled slightly, making it look almost like a withered tree.
Twilight's eyes flicked back up to the paragraph and began to read it. Her eyes widened as she read and her jaw slowly dropped to a gape. "What? Why had Celestia never told me about th-??" She cut herself off when she heard a low grumble from Spike. Not wanting to wake him, she kept her thoughts to herself. 'She would've told me about something like this, wouldn't she?' Twilight read it over and over, disbelief full in her. "It's... weird..."
'Who ever heard of such a-??' Her mind began racing before a sudden breeze ruffled her hair and attempted to turn the pages of Twilight's book. She just managed to stop the pages with her horn, but the wind continued. "What is this?? The windows and doors are closed!!" Trying to shield herself from the wind using the book, pillows, and blankets, she felt her legs, arms and hair being tugged at. Shrieking in fear, she gripped onto the mattress and tried to escape whatever was holding her.
What was happening? Why so suddenly?? Fear engulfed Twilight and she became even more afraid when she heard a little girl's laughter. "My dear Twilight," The invisible being whispered in to her ear, sending a huge tremble down her spine. "You must learn."
Everything around her then darkened, everything except for a single pair of gray, misty eyes and a small object. The object let off a faint golden glow, and it looked like a seed... Twilight was caught into a gaze, her eyes locked on the seed. It somehow... brought her... into an amazing trance. It felt warm and fuzzy. All the chaos from the past couple minutes, faded into calmness. All her stress felt as if it were lifted away...
Just as swiftly as all that came, it disappeared. Another giggle sounded in the calmness, and the seed suddenly shoved itself into her mouth and down her throat. It burned! As if it was made of acid! Trying to cough it up, Twilight felt as if she were falling. Her mane flew up from under her, she didn't seem to be going anywhere, though.
"...You're mine~..."
With a sudden jolt, Twilight was no longer falling, but in her bed. Spike was still sleeping, and the book was still in her hoof. 'Did I pass out?...' Looking around, she realized that everything was in place. 'I guess it all... was just a bad dream..."
The next night, Twilight held her head in her hooves. She had awoken in the middle of the night with a terrible migraine. Which is what had waken her that morning as well. Ever since yesterday, the smart unicorn had felt quite ill. Suffering from headaches, nausea and even some small hallucinations. Even though she didn’t believe it herself, she kept on telling herself that she just had a cold or fever…. But… She couldn’t shake the gut feeling that told her to run…
‘Twilight,’ What? That voice again? What does it want??
‘Twilight, my dear. You can’t run and you can’t hide. Not forever.’
With that, her head cracked into the worst migraine one could imagine. Yowling in pain, Twilight pulled at her mane and shook with fear once again. It was terrible. Felt as if it could be deadly.
‘Just give in, my dear Twi, it’ll end sooner~…’ ‘Give in…’ Exactly what did this voice mean by that? Give in… as in give up? Let whatever this was control her mind? Cause her pain? “No. I won’t ever give up to something as hideous as you! You enjoy my pain, don’t you?!” Right then and there, she was glad Spike was spending the night over at Pinkie’s to help with some things.
With a giggle, the voice sighed. ‘You will. Or I’ll have to force you into this.’ Then it stopped talking. It actually shut up. Her headache continued on, though, and Twilight felt like she needed to hurl. Rushing her way to the bathroom, she felt herself collide with the walls as a sudden dizziness took over her body. Vision blurring, Twilight felt along the wall to help herself to the bathroom.
But she was too late. In a split second, Twilight was releasing her stomach onto the hard wooden floor. “Wh-Why are you…? Wh-Who are-?” Her mind then went blank, and her eyes went completely white. She felt herself being swept away from reality. She felt her body being consumed. And when she was away from her body, she saw it. A purplish-grey darkness loomed around the violet pony’s body. Her eyes were turning from completely white to black with greyish-pink pupils. Tears were rolling down the cheeks, but she thought it must’ve been from before… because this thing in front of her. It didn’t feel emotion… It didn’t feel pain… All it felt was darkness. The black of its heart and soul used to corrupt Twilight.
The soul of the forementioned pony just stared into the reality as this thing got up and started laughing, the tears that had leaked turning a blood red and somehow evaporating from its coat. No… It wasn’t a pony anymore… It couldn’t be… All it could be anymore was a…
…A demon…
