You sat on your apartment's porch, an earphone in each ear as you listened to everything and anything Linkin Park. In deep thought of your own life, you couldn't help but smirk at the song that came on, and you spoke its opening words as they occurred.
“I ordered a Frappuccino wheres my fucking frappuccino?”
Chuckling to yourself you skipped the song, the only reason it was there was because buying an album was cheaper, and it didn't hurt to smile now and then. Your train of thought ends as one of your personal favorites come on the music drifting its way into your brain and the familiar beat keeping you in its trance.
“Memories consume like opening the wound i'm picking me apart again”
You glance to the woods before you, smiling you notice the wind pick up its pace sending the leaves that lay here and there were sent back and forth as the wind played with them. “So much for peace and quiet.”
“You all assume i'm safe here in my room unless i try to start again”
You watch as a cluster of small birds fly by you, it was uncommon yes, but you weren't the type of person to worry over nothing. Another small pack passes by you as you continue to sing to the beat, letting the lyrics keep you entranced.
“I don’t want to be the one the battles always choose, cause inside i realize that i'm the one confused”
You shift uncomfortably as you feel the temperature in the air rapidly increase, it was higher than it should be for november. For some reason you couldn't help but worry at the moment.
“I don’t know what's worth fighting for or why I have to scream”
The heat had begun to become unbearable due to the sudden stop in the wind, you swore you could feel the humid air be replaced with something drier. Anxiety had finally set in. What was this?
“I don’t know why I instigate and say what I don’t mean”
A sound like any other arose from the woods maybe thirty feet in front of you...humming perhaps? Sweat began to pour down your skin the anxiety you’d experienced increased tenfold.
”I don’t know how I got this way i’ll never be alright”
The hummings pitch began to be unbearable, your ears began to ring non-stop. Standing up you placed your hand on the door pulling it open. Over the ear splitting pitch you would never forget the last chorus sound off into your ears.
“So I’m breaking the habit, I’m breaking the habit, tonight.”
Finally it all stopped, the heat, the dryness, the constant noise, and with it all gone time seemed to slow down, only to speed back up once more when an ear splitting crack to shake your complex. You could hear the explosion roll throughout the town as you all near threw yourself inside and slammed the door shut behind you. At this point you were gasping, damn near having a full blown panic attack. Flopping backwards you inhale and exhale shallowly and rapidly, in a pathetic excuse to regain control of your lungs. You felt your heart rate began to fall and noticed that your hands were twitching without control. Groaning you kicked off your shoes and continued to regain your composure. After about two minutes of heavy breathing you sat upwards, and after one more minute inhaling and exhaling you brought yourself to a standing position. Completely by instinct or perhaps a bad habit you cracked your neck dispelling some of the anxiety and stress from...recent events. Speaking of recent events what the fuck was that. It almost sounded the army tested a missile in the dead centre of your town, only to fail horribly and explode. Upon thinking harder the explosion sounded fairly close, and since you weren't incinerated you could only assume it was something else. Gathering some courage you brought your eyes to the sliding door to peer outside to what you assumed was the origin of that hell like sound. Nothing. The trees swayed in the small wind and the animals you had seen earlier were once again moving about between the trees. Slowly your eyes drifted downwards to your shoes. Curiosity had poisoned you...or perhaps it was the radiation from whatever in gods name just happened. Slowly your hand moved outwards to the screen door. Common sense told you that going out there was incredibly dangerous, unfortunately this was only a small voice in your head, and it was easily drowned out by curiosity screaming DO IT YOU COWARD!!! Groaning at the internal fight between your senses you grabbed a shoe and slipped it on quickly. Perhaps it was the fact that death didn’t scare you as much as other people, in your own mind there were a few outcomes. You would either A go to heaven and live in peace and harmony, B go to hell due to the fact you were Bi-sexual (adds plot to the character you're not getting with a guy), and or C you continue out your days in oblivion which you would assume you would have no control over your thoughts so you'd cease from existence. Overwhelming but not scary. After your shoes were secure on your feet you found yourself outside once more.
Despite its...recent events it was now quite peaceful, if anyone had come outside now they wouldn't have suspected anything. Unfortunately you hadn’t. Taking a running start you jumped off your porch, easily clearing the railing. That never got old. Despite being the incredibly skinny pale kid in school, you found yourself with several advantages. Speed, agility, problem solving, and a very strong kick...now that you think of it you've taken a fair amount of beatings in your school days, always managed to walk it off however. Returning your thoughts to the woods now a few feet in front of you, you couldn’t help but notice the anxiety had left you completely. Unfortunately when one feeling vanishes another takes its place. Upon reaching the woods you notice a tad too late that the edge of woods has a steep hill leading straight towards the ground. Well clumsy you you just stepped off the edge and very much like Wile E. Coyote you fell to your certain, pain filled fate. “Shi-”. You only had time to mutter out half a word before your shoulder slammed into a stone slab. Gasping for air you quickly rolled onto your back and sat up. By instinct your hands went to the back of your head. many of your coaches had told you this was the best for recovering your breath the fastest. If it worked before you hoped it’d work now. After another few minutes of regaining your breath, you finally force yourself to stand. You look around, both left and right, then your eyes fix on what caused you indescribable pain. There were several stone slabs in front of you each separated by two or three feet, and you had the luck of landing on one. Groaning once more you decide to follow the mossy yet firm path ahead of you. Your eyes drift to far ahead of you. “This might be awhile.”

After what felt like hours of walking, you begin to grow bored of mindlessly walking forward at the same rate, listening to the same selection of songs, and singing the same lyrics. Coming to the quick conclusion of turning around, you suddenly stop before doing so. Ahead of you is a cave. Large in size, its fifteen to twenty feet wide and ten to twelve feet tall. What was disturbing about the cave is that there were several markings on the outside. Another offset was that the outside of the cave was entirely smooth, while the inside was jagged and rough. Finally you noticed that the stone path lead right into the cave. Suddenly, you couldn't help but grow nervous. The sound had came from this direction but it hadn’t come from here. Right? Your internal thoughts fought back and forth with each other as you weighed your options.
I go inside the cave, and find something incredible!
You go inside the cave and get bit by a venomous spider.
I go inside the cave and quench my curiosity.
You go in the cave and you never leave the cave.
I man up and face my fears.
You pussy out, and enjoy the rest of your life.
Fuck it.
Inhaling deeply, as if you were sucking in courage, you take your first step into the dark cave. Realising that it's most likely not going to get any brighter, you pull out your phone. Sliding upwards on the screen, you click the flashlight button. Shining the light forward, you continued to take steps into the darkness of the cave. Unfortunately you didn’t get very far before something startled you. Your phone let off a quick vibration and like anyone else who’s on edge, you jumped. opening your phone you looked at the notification.

Groaning, you pulled it up. Your eyes scanned the screen and began to read.

The entire state of massachusetts is encouraged to stay indoors. The storm will hit around nine o’clock eastern standard time and will end sunday morning.
You stopped reading there, what needed to be read was read. Just about everything after that was nonsense. Pointing the phone forward once more you continued to walk. If you kept up the pace you wouldn’t get hit by the storm. Upon quickening your pace you notice that the cave began to twist and turn, your light had began to shine onto the jagged walls of the cave around you, it was almost as if they were markings of some sort. You continued forward into a smaller section of the cave. When you entered the room the light from your phone quickly lit up the small chamber. Your jaw dropped. Along each wall of the small room there were what seemed like thousands of marking along each wall. The ones that stood out the most were two of the largest markings on the left and right walls. The left wall, which you had noticed first, held a large symbol of the sun. Next to it, was a large equine creature, with both wings and a horn. You began to back away from the wall, and your light began to reveal more of the wall. You couldn’t help but be awestruck by the sheer amount of detail on the wall it was...surreal. You continued to back away from the wall, until your back struck another one. Turning around slowly, as if you had backed into a monster inside of a cartoon, your light began to shine on the opposite wall. Similar figures lined this one, and just like the other wall, this one held the same creature except instead of the sun, it was the moon. For some reason unbeknownst to you, you found yourself wanting to continue. Quickly avoiding everything else in the room you find a small hole at the back left of the room. Groaning, you pushed yourself inside the small space. Shining your phone forward you followed the small space, only to find it lead to a bigger room. Well...bigger was an understatement. The room you entered was easily the size of your apartment, maybe more. A small light from the center of the ceiling cascaded the room in light. Well nothing else in the room truly caught your attention, probably because there was a body of what looked like a girl no older than you lying on the ground. Ok close your eyes turn around, deep breath and turn around again. She’s still there. Why is she there. In fact who is she? your mind began to pile questions left and right as you tried to think as to why this girl was here. Deciding on the fact that she found the cave like you and then proceeded to slip and fall, you approached her.
“Miss? Are you alright?” Nothing. She made no movements and no sounds. Slowly you started to take steps forward. The sound of your sneakers hitting the ground echoed through the room around you. the distance between you and he got smaller, and finally you fell to one knee to look down at her. You could hear a gentle breathing coming from her so you assumed she was still alive. Gathering some courage, you placed your hand on her shoulder and shook her a little. “Miss are you alright?” Instead of responding she rolled over, and your breath caught. Well...for a few reasons. One and the biggest was she was drop dead beautiful. Not a single mark stained her face. The second reason was that she was still sleeping. The the third was that when she rolled over she pulled your arm into her chest, in an attempt to hold it close. Unfortunately it worked. Struggling to get your arm back, you noticed her breathing began to pick up. You brought your left hand to the same shoulder and gave it a small shake. “Please wake up.” Slowly...scratch that painfully slowly, her eyes opened. First they locked onto you, then they locked onto the arm she was holding, and finally once more on you. Taking that as your time to say something, you decided to break the ice...or a lake that completely froze over, and has five feet of ice between now and success. “Are you alright? I found you asleep in here, and in all honesty, its probably in the twenties right now.” Slowly she let go of your arm and began to back away. You weren’t exactly going to stop her, she needed to calm down so when she hits that back wall two or three behind her you’ll step in. After a few more scoots backwards she stops, and when she stops you take your cue. “Easy there i’m not gonna hurt you, i’m only here to help you. Whats your name?”
For a while no one says anything, you wait patiently. Her eyes seem to be scanning your face for honesty and some sincerity, both of which you had. After another minute of silence she finally spoke. “Who are you? What are you? Where am I? Why don’t I remember anything?” Her barrage of questions hit you like a small truck, making you take a step back. In a new attempt to calm her down you decided to try and answer a few questions for her. Keeping your voice steady and you even attempted to make it soothing. “Let’s slow this down just a bit shall we? Here lets ask each other questions and give each other answers. All honesty no matter how much we want to lie. Does that seem fair?” After evaluating your words she slowly nodded her head. You took that as the initiative to start first. “May I ask your name?” Slowly, shakily, and very quietly, she responded.
“Twilight. What is your name?” You smiled at the progress and responded in the same gentle tone you had started with. “Names Jack. I'm assuming you're not from around here. Correct?” She blinked a few times and nodded her head. “I’ll answer your question after this one. Where am I?” Keeping your tone the same you replied. “Outskirts of boston.” She blinked at you and cocked her head, showing that she had no clue as to where she was. “Massachusetts.” Still showing no sign of recognition you decided to expand your answer. “The United States?” Nothing. “North America?” Still nothing. “Earth!” She just shook her head.
“Those places are just fairy tales, earth and humans don’t exist.” I gave her a deadpan expression. “I’m a human. Thought It was pretty obvious. You wanna carry this chat in my apartment, it's maybe twenty, twenty five degrees out right now?” She nods several times after letting a shiver or two off. Realizing that she was still on the ground, you reached out a hand with a small smile on your face. Slowly she took your hand in hers with some hesitation. “On three... One...Two...Three.” You pulled, and she pushed off with her legs. She stood for a moment, her legs shaking. After a few moments they straightened out and she stood still. Concerned about her you couldn’t help but ask, “Can you walk?” She let off a sigh and then gave you a sheepish grin. “Kind of…” A few thoughts arranged themselves in your head when she gave you her answer. She asked me ‘what’ I was...she can’t walk...she has no memory. She was either drugged off her ass or she’s a god damn alien. Please be option one. Sighing once more you decide to take the slow approach. Moving to her side you wrap your arm over her shoulders. Using your left hand, you place hers in the same fashion. “Were gonna take this slow. One foot in front of the other.” Slowly you took your first step and after a moment she took her first step too. Glancing down you could see both of her legs shaking. deciding you should wait a moment for her to gain her balance you paused.
After several more moments her legs steadied. Taking that as the initiative to start again, I took another step and she did the same. Slowly you and her made it out of the cave in silence. You brought your hand to shield your eyes as a cold gust of wind made its attempt to push you back inside the cave. You felt her shiver beside you as you noticed some snowflakes began to drift downwards at a somewhat slow place. Turning to her you asked, “Can you stand for a few moments? I need to do something.” Her body let off a few more shivers but she gave you a small nod. Letting go of her arm you zipped your jacket down. Well it wasn’t exactly a jacket the name currently escaped you at the moment but ignoring all of this and that you took it off and extended it out to her. After helping her with the arms to the jacket, you proceeded to zip it up. Moving your arm back to her shoulder to support her once more, you continued your march to the apartment complex.

You slammed the door shut behind you and Twilight, separating the warmth of your small apartment from the outside blizzard. You entered the living room quickly and set twilight down on the couch. You noticed before you left to enter the kitchen, that her eyes were dreary. After re-entering the living room with two bottles of water from the fridge her breathing was calm and her eyes were closed. Groaning, you stuffed the two bottles of water into your pockets, and after some weird positioning you picked Twilight up in your arms. Slowly and silently you're brought her up to your room. You set her gently down on the bed and tucked her in. You turned to your bedside and placed the still cold bottle of water on the table. You continued your silence as you locked the door and turned off the light. Moving over to the recliner you had got way back when you sat down and closed your eyes. You both had a long day, hopefully tomorrow would be easier. Oh how wrong you were.
