The Begining

Twilight Sparkle looked out the window of her castle. Today, just as before, she had brought the sun up, but this time, she took no joy in it. The castle felt empty.

“Feeling down Princess?” In a flash of light, the mismatched spirit of chaos appeared beside her.

“What do you want, Discord?” she sighed.

“Well, I'm just concerned, that's all. I mean here it is, the eve of the Twilight Celebration, the eve of the day when you ushered in an unparalleled era of peace and prosperity in Equestria, the eve of a day dedicated SPECIFICALLY in celebration of you, and yet,” Discord looked Twilight in the eye, “you're not smiling.”

Twilight sighed again. “I still miss them.”

“I know you do. But they're dead. You can't change that. Heck even I can't change that.”

Twilight laid her head on the windowsill. “That doesn't keep me from praying for a miracle.”

Without warning, the two immortals heard an explosion in the center of town.

Discord and the Princess rushed through the Ponyville Metropolis to the site of the explosion to find a crater where Town Square used to be. Twilight ran down the crater to find out what was at the center.

It turned out to be a well-known pink pony holding a cupcake in her hands, and shaking off her new wings.

“Great Scott!” the pony exclaimed.

“Pinkie Pie...” Twilight stared at her friend in disbelief.

“Hee hee. That's a funny face you're making Twilight! Hey Discord, when did you get here?”

“Uh, Pinkie,” Discord said, “Don't take this the wrong way, but how are you, y'know... here?”

“What do you mean? Just a moment ago I was taking a bite of this,” she held up the  cupcake, “my newest cupcake creation! The Pinkie Cupcake Secret Surprise! Suddenly, I felt a sugar-rush, and then this crater appeared. I didn't hurt anypony, did I?”

Realizing the last time she saw Pinkie Pie, Twilight's expression changed to a mixture of confusion and horror.

“Pinkie,” Discord said, examining the pink pony, “What year is this?”

“It's 1001 in the Celestial Era of course! What else would it be?”

“Just as I thought!” Discord exclaimed, “You're a time-traveler, Pinkie. You've gone to the future.”

It took a second for Pinkie to process this, but when it dawned on her that she had actually gone to the future, she gasped in surprise.

“You're not joking with me are you?” she said, grabbing Discords face, “Because, if I did go to the future, that would be, like, the coolest thing ever!”

“Yep, you're in the future all right.”

“OhmygoshohmygoshohmyGOSH!” Pinkie Pie exclaimed, flying into the air, “THIS IS THE MOST AWESOMEST wait. I have wings? I HAVE WINGS!” she landed in front of a dumbfounded Twilight. “Look Twilight, I have wings now! Like you!”

“WHAT THE BUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!?” Twilight finally yelled, “How are you here, and why do you have wings? None of this makes any sense!”

“Well...” Pinkie thought for a moment, “If I had to guess, I'd say it had something to do with the secret ingredient of my Pinkie Cupcake Secret Surprise!”

“It has a secret ingredient?” said Discord, who was examining the cupcake.

“Yep! Exactly one ton of extra sugar!”

“Amazing! I never would have guessed.”

“But it has to be brown sugar. Not that synthetic stuff they put in tea.”

Discord took out a notepad. “Twilight are you getting this down?”

“Anyways, this is just a guess, but I think that all that sugar caused such a large sugar-rush that all of my individual atoms were rotating many times faster than they usually are. This caused an increase of kinetic energy, which could theoretically have sent me careening far into the future! And I have wings now, because all that kinetic energy activated the inherent Pegasus DNA in my genes that I inherited from my Grandmother, Surrprise! Of course, that's just a theory.”

Both Twilight and Discord were not expecting such an educated, yet crazy answer.

“Seems legit.”

“Shut up Discord. Assuming that that's all true,” Twilight said, “shouldn't your body have shut down after all that sugar?”

“Oh Twilight,” Pinkie Pie replied, “Take from someone who has been in the sweets biz for many a year now: sugar-rushes may exist, but sugar-crashes are just a-”

Discord and Twilight waited for Pinkie Pie to finish. “Well?” Discord asked, “Just a what?”

Twilight noticed that Pinkie Pie appeared to be frozen. Without warning, Pinkie Pie collapsed, not having the energy to move a muscle.
