Chapter One - Clan of the Silver Wings
Load Full StoryChapter One – Clan of the Silver Wings
I wasn’t sure what was weirder. The fact that my own brother was bouncing up and down on a pink cloud or by doing so chocolate rain was falling down. Which a little filly was having the time of her life down in a wheat field. I could tell my brother was having fun, but I knew we had a job to do. The clan leader himself had assigned it to us himself. We had a couple hours to get it done and yet there was my brother goofing off yet again. As if feeling my disapproving look he turned his eyes to look at me.
“What?” he said pausing from his jumping. The little filly down on the ground sighed in disappointment.
“We have a job to finish and you’re just bouncing on that cloud,” I got up from my normal white cloud.
“Oh have a little fun for once,” he said bouncing on the cloud again. The filly cheered as the chocolate rain fell again. “Besides this isn’t just a normal cloud, Zen. It’s a Chocolate Rain cloud! These are extremely rare now. Even if we don’t get the job done on time imagine what Leader Goldencoat will do if we brought this in. He’d blow his top!” he gave me one of his crooked smiles.
I sighed, ever the optimist. “Alright, but I still want to get this job done on time.”
His smile got wider and he jumped up off the pink cloud. Quickly flying down to the ground he fashioned a rope out of some of the vines. Flying back up he tied it around the pink cloud and then tied the other half around his back leg. Coming back to me he grinned. “I can’t wait to show this to him. So what do we have to do again?”
I pulled the piece of parchment out. “We have to go check on the eastern border.”
“That’s it? Didn’t the warriors secure the boarder a couple months ago?” he said hovering in the air beside me moving his wings a couple times to stay aloft.
“They did, but Leader Goldencoat has been getting reports of Beings trying to break the border.”
“Beings?” he said raising an eyebrow. “They can’t break through the boarder unless they have Silver Wing blood in them or have clearance to come through. Parable himself ensured that the spells were perfect.”
“The leader just wants to make sure the spells are keeping up. Do we really want to have another attack?” I said giving him a look.
He sighed. “Fine, but I want to stop by the Blackridge village. They have some of the best scones there.”
“Alright let’s get going,” I said hovering up off the cloud I had been standing on. With the pink cloud in tow behind us we made our way towards the eastern border.
~*~*~*~*~*~
The eastern border proved to be holding up quite well with Parable’s spells maintaining it. When we arrived there were several Beings attempting to get into Silver Wings territory. The guards were ensuring that none got through even though the border was holding up perfectly. Pinnacle tied the vine rope to a tree and walked with me up to the nearest guard out posting. We met with several silver armored guards standing at the border watching a Kirin trying to get through the border. The Kirin looked quite determined with a look on her face saying she wasn’t about to give up. Then I noticed something familiar on her shoulder.
“Female Kirin,” the determined she-dragon looked up.
“I have a name you know,” her voice was raspy and sounded tom-boyish.
“Then what it is?” I replied back not letting my guard down.
“Vincix Virden, daughter of the Glowing Dragon of Silver Mountain and Vendee Virden of Clan Silver Wings,” she said proudly puffing her chest out.
Our eyes widened. “Vendee? Does your mother have a silver mane and bat wings?” I asked skeptically.
Vincix nodded. “My mother was born on Silver Wings land and was raised on this land until she was old enough to take the warrior oath. From what my mother has told me she left Silver Wing territory in search of my father,” she said standing prideful.
“Yes I remember!” Pinnacle exclaimed startling Vincix. “Vendee left on a quest to find the Glowing Dragon of Silver Mountain before we were even born. She sought to make an ally of the wise and ancient dragon. When she didn’t return after a few months we assumed she had perished on the quest. However it’s evident now about what really happened,” he wiggled his brows.
I slapped him on the shoulder making him laughed. “So why are you seeking entry into Silver Wings territory?”
“I am old enough to leave the nest now and I seek to make my home on my mother’s homeland. I originally thought I could get through because I am of Silver Wing blood, but apparently not,” she scowled.
“You cannot enter because of your Dragon blood,” she gave us a nasty look, but I waved it off with a hoof. “It was a precaution we took because most of your Dragon kin are hostile. In order to gain entry we will have to get approval of Leader Goldencoat and your mother to prove that you are Silver Wing blood.”
She looked away. “My mother cannot come, she was placed into a coma when she was defending me a couple months back.”
“Then the Dragon of Silver Mountain will have to bring her,” I looked at my brother. He shrugged. “The leader before Leader Goldencoat originally wanted her father as an ally. So I don’t see why he would object to him coming here,” then he turned back to Vincix. “We can also get a healer from an allied Unicorn clan to heal your mother.”
I groaned. “Not Parable, please?”
“He’s our best shot to heal Vendee, Zenith,” Pinnacle said looking at me. Getting closer to me he whispered. “Think about it we have that Chocolate Rain cloud and a Kirin with Silver Wing blood. Think how much pride we’ll bring our clan if we get one of the most powerful dragons this side of Equestria! Not to mention we bring back Vendee the Brave!” he almost squealed.
I grunted in agreement. “Alright send word to Parable and Leader Goldencoat.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
“This is great!” Parable exclaimed a couple hours later. The sun was now beginning to setting behind them and clouds were dotting the sky. The light purple coated young stallion bounced around the dragon enthusiastically. The ancient glowing dragon watched the bouncing young stallion warily as he grunted whenever he got too close to his daughter or his unconscious mate. “I ensure you my good sire I will not harm anybody!”
Vincix bit back a chuckle whenever her father through a look at the young stallion. I couldn’t help, but to chuckle as well. Parable was a bit of an oddball and was known to go full out nuts whenever something amazed him. Vincix’s father grunted again as Parable tried to get a closer look at her mother. The ancient dragon said something to his daughter in a language she didn’t know. Vincix replied back in the language and whatever she said made the ancient dragon release his unconscious mate.
An older mare in her prime lay on the hard ground just outside the barrier. Her mane was still a sleek sliver and her bat wings seemed to have gotten bigger and stronger. Her dark grey ears were bigger than a usual Pony’s, but that was to help her catch sound better. Her cutie mark was a great sword with bat wings on the side. Parable came up beside the older mare and examined her. “Sir my I ask how she was placed into a coma?” Parable asked looking up at the large glowing dragon.
He spoke in the unknown language, but Vincix was there to translate. “When my daughter was younger she got into a tough spot with a Manticore down in the valley below our cave. My mate flew down there to defend her and scared the Manticore off, but before it ran off it had poisoned my mate.”
“Ah Manticore poison,” Parable said nodding his head. Tapping his hoof against his chin he thought. “The poison have been circulating through her circulatory system thus keeping her in a coma. However since she is a bat pony she is more immune to their poison than any other Pony. Say did you cast a spell on her before you mated with her?” Parable asked looking towards the dragon.
The dragon hissed in embarrassment before speaking. “Yes, if I hadn’t she would have perished in the process.”
“I see, the spell must have also protected her against the poison,” he said softly as he thought. He clapped his hooves together and sprang up. “This shall be easy then!” He bent his front knees and kneeled to touch his horn to her forehead. “Surge et dormienti incertisque Animalia,” he said. A golden magic aura appeared on his horn and wrapped around Vendee’s head. Then after four minutes he got up and jerked his head back. A shining blue liquid came out of her mouth. “I’ll keep this, Manticore poison is hard to come by,” he said levitating it into a bottle and corking it.
After a minute Vendee began making soft noises and then she slowly woke up. After about eight minutes she rolled over onto her stomach. “Where…where am I?” She looked around and saw her mate. “Toulouse!” she cried. The ancient dragon shot to her side and spoke rapidly in his language. “What? How many years have passed…really? Just little under a year? Where’s my baby?” she turned and saw Vincix standing before her. “My you’ve grown!”
“I’m so glad you are back,” Vincix bent down and hugged her mother.
“I am too, what have I missed?” Vendee asked looking around and seeing us. She saw Pinnacle’s and I’s brands on our shoulders and nodded understanding. “Clan of the Silver Wings. I remember now you wanted to go live on the clan’s land. Will you accept her?” she asked turning to us.
“She needs to get approval from Leader Goldencoat,” I said.
A flapping of wings and thud of a flying chariot startled me. Turning around I saw an old stallion climbing out of a silver chariot. His silver armor and curving crown that framed his face clinked as he walked to the barrier. Stopping just before the barrier he gazed at the tall dragon, Vendee, and Vincix. He grunted and bowed to the dragon. “She can live on my land if she abides by my rules and you become an ally,” she said turning to look at the large dragon.
The dragon spoke and Vendee translated. “It will be an honor, but if something happens to my daughter I want word of it immediately.”
“That is most understandable, I am a father myself. I would want the same with my children,” he turned to look at the young Kirin. “Come through the barrier.”
“Yes sir,” Vincix said stepping through the barrier. She shivered as she came through and touched Silver Wing land. She looked up at the clan leader and bowed. “Thank you my Leader Goldencoat.”
“You are most welcome, it is nice to have a Kirin among our ranks. Now the Lightfeather twins will show you around,” he said looking to us. We scrambled through the barrier.
“I am staying with my mate,” Vendee said bracing herself against her mate’s side. “However call on me if you ever need my aid,” the clan leader bowed his head in understanding. “Vincix write us letters whenever you can.”
“Alright mother,” she said coming to our sides.
“Ready to see your new home?” Pinnacle said tapping her back. The young Kirin nodded. “Then let’s go! After I show Leader Goldencoat the Chocolate Rain cloud.”
The leader’s ears perked up, “You found what?”
