Chapter 1: First Hunt...
Load Full Story"Bayo? Bayonette? Bayonette you don't want to miss your first hunt do you?" Silver shouted.
"No Dad, I'll be right down." Bayonette replied back in a low grumble.
Today was Bayonette's 14th birthday and also the night of her first hunt, the night where she would spill the blood of her first vampony and prove herself to her parents and she could become one of 'The Sun's Crusaders'. This was truely one of the most important moments of her life.
Bayonette was a stone grey unicorn, she had a long black mane with yellow highlights that covered her right eye, she had long pointed ears and she had a left pupil that was a aqua blue and a right pupil which was a sun's yellow. Her most unique aspects were her furry chest and her right eye that resembled that of a canine's. Her cutie mark showed a set of 2 knives crossed to form an 'X'.
Bayonette quickly went to her closet and levitated out a large wooden chest with a golden lock. Inside the chest was a long black overcoat which featured a hood, a thick oak brown leather hide chestplate, a set of black leather hide boots, a belt with 2 knife holders and a thin iron sheathe, a long silver katana with a sun engraved into the hilt and her pair of self-made long, silver daggers. Bayonette hastily worked the armour on, sliding her weapons into there places telekinetically.
"Bayo!" Silver shouted again.
"Coming Dad!" Bayo shouted as she trotted down the dark pine stairs of her country home.
At the bottom was her unicorn father, Silver Arrow, he had a silver coat and a short brown mane, his irises were a lushious green and his cutie mark was a set of 3 silver tipped arrows and as always he was clad in his hunting armour made up of a series of interlocking dragon scale armour parts and had his family quiver slung across his back.
"Are you ready for your first hunt?" Silver asked, flashing a grin as he spoke.
"Why would I not be?" Bayo said as she quickly drew 1 of her daggers in her dirty yellow telekinetic hold.
"That's my girl!" Silver said with a note of triumph in his voice.
As they emerged out from the door they were greeted by the sight that always greeted them, the view of the beautiful sweeping valley with a river weaving through the middle which past by her home town, Blackhoof; the town was settled up near the alpine territory which marked the border between Equestria and the Dragon country. Blackhoof had been founded 7 centuries back by the great Vampony hunter; Mareovan Lupine and her family. Bayonette was the 9th generation of the towns founder, in her family DNA the chain had been strengthened when she was born since she was half wolf, half mare by nature. It had always been that there was a marewolf in the family ever since Mareovan Lupine. Her parents had deemed her 'The Family Angel' when she was born.
Tonight would be the night when she proved herself though, the night she finally slayed her first vampony, and she was determined this would become not a dream, but reality.
Bayonette soon after spotted her mother; Katana sat out in the moonlight, her coat was a deep grey and her unkempt, messy mane and tail were almost black, she was taller than a normal pony and her hooves featured long sharp claws. Her fur was overgrown which hid her cutie-mark and she had yellow eyes that resembled the colour of Bayo's right one.
"Lovely night, isn't it." Katana said as soon as her ears perked up to the sound of hoofsteps behind her.
"Yes mother." Bayo agreed as she walked into the moonlight which caused her fur, mane and tail to grow slightly.
"I know you are determined my Daughter, I can sense it. But you must be patient and wait for the time to come for you, not for you to go after it." Katana said.
Bayo, who knew her mother was most-definetly correct like always, so she decided to lay beside her mother and watch Luna's moon continue it's steady travel across the sky.
Suddenly Bayo's mother, Katana jumped onto her clawed hooves, her ears rotating madly as she tried to pinpoint something.
"What is it Mum?" Bayo said in her drowsy state.
"..."
Instead of asking again, Bayo attempted to find the noise which her mother had heard, her ears rotating in the same frantic movements as her mother's.
"Vamponies." Kat' growled.
Katana quickly pulled her daughter up into her standing position before turning back to Silver who stood cautiously, giving him a single nod before turning back to her daughter and saying:
"Its time." And without any further ado, Katana galloped off into the forest, her canine kicking in as her posture lowered a bit and her gallops turned into bounds with Silver and Bayo' following behind.
They were travelling for 10 minutes until Katana quickly ducked behind an old, ruined brick wall and motioned for the others to do the same. Unsheathing her sword as she did so.
Silver quickly followed suit and held up his long-bow in a white kinetic field with an arrow drawn and ready to be fired.
Bayonette quickly grabbed her daggers and katana in her telekinesis, the knives at either side and her katana over her head.
"Calm yourself, Daughter." Katana whispered.
Bayonette quickly proceeded to taking long breaths threw her nostrils, wincing slightly at the smell of moss and fungus on there cover.
Before long Bayo' began to hear small rustles that were slowly becoming louder. She quickly focused on the sounds, they were more than one.
Soon after Katana proceeded to moving between the ruins, getting closer to there targets all the time.
Bayonette suddenly caught a glimpse of 2 silhouttes moving between the trees and let out a quiet growl of determination.
Silver promptly fired off 2 arrows which were soon followed by a scream of pain. Katana followed by jumping out from behind the cover and charging towards her 2 targets and Bayo' followed her promptly. The sight of the 2 was shocking, lying on the floor was a brown coated earthpony with the 2 arrows imbedded in his side which were causing rivers of crimson blood to pour out. Infront of him in a defensive stance was a purple coated pegasus mare, she had a long, flowing, silky black mane and tail, her irises were blood red and she had a pair of dagger like teeth hanging lower from the rest.
Without hesitating Bayo' telekinetically threw one of her daggers straight towards the 2 vamponies, the dagger landing straight in the neck of the brown earth pony. The mare turned around and looked at the stallion for a second and then turning back, tears forming in her eyes.
Suddenly Katana jumped infront of her, swiping with her claws but the pegasus dodged them all and proceeded to bite Katana in the neck, ripping off a peice of flesh as she withdrew and then kicked Kat' aside into a tree a few metres away.
"Mother!" Bayonette shouted before charging towards the pegasus.
Bayonette resorted to slicing a few times with her silver sword. She landed 2 hits on the pegasus leaving behind a pair of long gashes; 1 on her chest and 1 on her wing joint. The pegasus hissed and tried to swipe Bayonette aside like she had done to her mother, but Bayonette jumped out of the way and then slashed at her again; landing a hit on her face that crossed her left eye and went down to her muzzle. Bayonette then successfully threw the pegasus aside, the vampony hitting a rock a few hooves away.
Bayonette stared down at the wounded earth vampony and raised her sword above his side where his heart would be, the wounded vampony looking up at her with his right eye.
She muttered the family death sentence used by her family since Mareovan Lupine.
"Hope for your soul that it shall pass not through the gates of Tartarus into hell and instead shall be held as a sould of Celestia. Valedico belau, requiescat in pace." Bayonette said.
The vampony stared at her in a pleading manner before closing his eyes as he braced himself.
Bayonette brought her sword down to his chest with a sickening thud as the sword came out the other side and made contact with the hard dirt.
"No!" the pegasus vampony shouted.
The surviving vampony charged at Bayonette, fangs baired and wings flared.
Suddenly out of nowhere Katana jumped infront of the pegasus vampony as she was about to land on Bayonette. Without hesitation the vampony sunk her fangs into Katana and drew blood. Bayonette watched in horror as the vampony continued its act. Without thinking Bayonette charged at the vampony. She rotated round on her front hooves and kicked out her back with all her strength. The vampony went flying and slammed against a tree with a sickening crack about 50 metres away.
"Mother!" Bayo' shouted as she ran over to her injured mother.
Her mother was lying on the forest floor, she was panting heavily and groaning every so often. Bayonette examined her mother for injuries, when she saw the mark the vampony had left she gasped in horror. Half of Katana's neck was missing, a ocean of blood pouring out. Silver's hoof slouched onto Bayo's shoulder, Silver embraced Bayonette in a tight embrace as she broke down in sobs.
"Be...Strong, my Daughter." Katana grumbled.
"Mother. Mother? Mother! Your going to be alright Mother." Bayonette said as she looked her marewolf mother in the eyes.
"No...i'm not...We both...know that." Katana said as she gave her daughter a comforting smile.
"Dad. We can help her can't we?" Bayonette said as she looked up at her dad, looking for any trace of hope in his expression.
Her dad didn't say anything, he just staired at his wife with tears streaming from his eyes.
"No. No. No!" Bayonette said before she buried her face into her mother's neck.
"There, there. Be strong...for *coughs* me." Katana said as she gave a warm, teeth showing smile.
"Mother..." Bayo said.
"Now...Go put that...vampony...out of...her...misery." Katana said as she pushed her own katana towards Bayonette.
Bayonette obeyed her mother and walked over to the pegasus vampony with her mother's katana telekinetically floating next to her. The pegasus looking up at her with content eyes.
"You killed my mother. Now you shall pay." Bayonette said in a loud tone.
"You killed my father. I made you pay." the pegasus said with a sly grin.
"Go ahead kill me." the pegasus said as she braced herself.
"Valedico belau, requiescat in pace." Bayonette said as she brought the katana down onto the pegasi's chest.
Bayonette turned around and looked at her mother and father, both with proud expressions on there faces.
"Mareovan...Lupine w-would be...as...proud as...I am... I love you...my Daughter... Bayonette Lupine." Katana said as a tear ran down her cheek and she closed her eyes.
Bayonette walked over slowly towards her father who sat next to her dead mother with a few tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Goodbye." Bayonette whispered before her mouth curled into a small smile.
Bayonette slowly trotted over to a nearby plant which beared a few, purple long petaled flowers. Bayonette cut with 1 of her daggers near the bottom of the stem and levitated the flower infront of her and she walked over to her mother's corpse and placed down the flower on her mother's chest and layed down her own sword next to the corpse. She turned to her father who was wearing a expression of proudness and happiness.
"Let's go home." Silver said and they turned and walked away from the corpse towards there home, Bayo giving one final look which caused a tear to stream from her eye.
Bayonette sat infront of her window as she unsheathed her armour peice by peice. The moon was becoming low in the sky which reminded Bayonette of how much sleep she hadn't had. As she turned towards her bed she caught a glimpse of her mother's katana that was stood in the corner. She slowly levitated the silver weapon over to her and set it on her bed. The katana was about 12 inches long and it had a small, circular, yellow jewel encrusted in the hilt. As she took a closer look she saw that the jewel was engraved with the picture of a large alicorn with a long flowing mane and a cutie-mark of celestia's sun. She glanced up and down the sword again and noticed some engravings in the blade of the katana. They red 'For my grandchildren to come, know that this blade will light your path of purpose, and you didn't meet this blade, but the blade met you. Mareovan Lupine.' Also there was a load of messages which each of her Bayonette's ancestors wrote. The most interesting one to her was her mother's though. It read 'To my beloved daughter Bayonette Lupine, know that this sword will help you in any predicament, and know that I loved you more than any other pony on this planet. Never give up. Katana Lupine.'
Bayonette looked at her mother's sword for a few more seconds before she levitated it onto the rack on her wall.
"I love you too Mother." Bayonette said before she walked over to her bed and lied down. A small smile showing on her face as she closed her eyes.
"What time is it?" Bayonette mumbled as she looked towards the window.
"Time to pay up." a sinister voice said.
Bayonette quickly jumped ontop of her duvet and telekinetically levitated her mother's katana over to her.
"Show yourself!" Bayonette growled as she frantically looked around for the source of the voice.
"You killed me, now you have to pay up." the sinister voice said
"Who are you?" Bayonette growled.
"Look up." the voice said.
Bayonette looked up, what she saw shocked her. Hanging from the ceiling was the pegasus vampony she had killed earlier the only difference being a large scar along her side and the blood stains on her coat. Before Bayonette could react and stab her the vampony dropped ontop of her, pinning her to the bed.
Before Bayonette could stab her with the floating katana she lost all control of her body, helpless and unable to do anything but watch and listen.
Suddenly the vampony lunged at her neck, biting down on it with her fangs. She then bit down on her wing joint which caused it to drip blood, the vampony lapped up the blood coming from the fresh wound she had made and then turned back to Bayonette who had a look of fear in her eyes, she new exactly what the vampony was doing. The vampony grinned and then licked the bite marks on Bayo's neck as she left some of the blood from her wound on Bayonette's wound that was slowly bleeding out aswell.
Almost momentarily afterwards Bayonette began to shake violently as the vampony's blood merged with her's. If she could she would of let out ear-splitting screams of pain. Her eyes darting back and forth as she saw her body change. Her coat soon started to darken to a colour that was almost black and her mane and tail lengthened aswell until they were atleast 10 inches longer. Soon Bayonette felt a painful feeling in her teeth as they lengthened by about 4 inches. Afterwards she felt an extreme pain in her left eye as her iris turned from it's aqua blue to a blood red. Also she felt an horrible pain in her horn as she felt it lengthen slightly and then she finally she stopped shuddering and just lay there until she fell a forced sleep.
"5 more minutes..." Bayo grumbled.
"I'd recommend waking up." a voice said.
Bayonette opened her eyes to find the purple pegasus vampony sat infront of her with a slight smile of a amusement on her. They were inside a circular stone room with a few wooden pillars that reached up to the wooden ceiling above.
Bayonette quickly took up a defensive stance, but instead of her familiar growl a hiss came.
"Forgotten already?" the pegasus said slyly.
"I'll rip your throat out!" Bayonette shouted but found that she could not move her limbs.
"Uh uh ah. Your my fledgeling." the pegasus said.
"I would never be a pitful race like you." Bayonette hissed.
"Well you better get used to it because your my fledgeling and you will be a vampony!" the pegasus shouted.
"Never!" Bayo shouted.
The purple vampony lunged at Bayo and she bit painfully into Bayonette's leg.
"You killed my father. Now you will pay." the pegasus said before giving Bayo' a quick glance.
"Follow me, Fledgeling." the pegasus said.
The pegasus walked up a long spiralling set of stone steps that went up a cylindrical stone room. When they emerged at the top Bayonette was greeted by quite a sight. Hanging from the ceiling was a wooden chandelier that provided poor illumination to the large room. Dotted around the room were many bookshelves which harboured many large tomes and hardbacked books. In one corner on a raised stone platform covered by a red carpet were a pair of black coffins surrounded by many candle stands. The only source of natural light was a large window that looked out onto a large forest and Luna's moon that sat low in the sky.
"What, what is this place?" Bayo asked.
"My sanctuary, my home and it was also my father's home." the pegasus said.
"You are a fledgeling, and I intend to turn you into a true vampony." the pegasus said again.
"To prove myself to Luna." the pegasus said.
"And now is the time you shall feed." the pegasus said with a satisfied voice.
"I refuse, I shall not." Bayonette said.
"Then die. I'm sure you mother will be proud of you." the pegasus said.
"Mother..." Bayonette mumbled as her mind flashed back to her mother's words that were engraved into the blade of her katana.
"Fine." Bayonette said.
"Well if you say that, follow me." the pegasus said.
"But wait."
"Here is something to remind you of what you were." the pegasus said.
Bayonette turned around to see her mother's katana sliding towards her on the silky carpet.
"Now Fledgeling, follow me." the pegasus said.
As Bayonette made her way down the stairs her mother's words kept flashing through her mind.
'Never give up."
