Zip, pop, pop, pop, pow. Every second my team was under fire from the remaining mercenaries. Every second was a second that death would inch closer. The other two splinter teams were destroyed in a hail of gunfire. Our weapons specialist informed me of his current situation, “Sir! My gun jammed! I can’t fix it here!” More gunfire from the approaching mercenary guards. I replied, “Jackie, take Katie and pop some smoke, we have to disappear!” I pulled out my trusty EMP grenade and rolled it out into the middle of the battle field all of the electronics failed save for the computer and out equipment. It was silent then the fizzing of the smoke grenade was audible.

I whispered to my friends, “Get above them, do it now.” We were on top of them when one of the two mercenaries looked up and saw two pairs of tri lens goggles staring at him. His friend stopped and saw me as well as him, “J-J-Jim what is that thing?” His buddy responded, “I d-d-don’t kn-know.” I jump down and disarm him. “If you want to leave here alive, you do exactly what I say.” I looked over at his friend over his shoulder, “If you make any movements at all, I will slit his throat.” We stared each other down, he slowly put his machine gun down and reached into his holster and set down his knife and pistol. “Now where is the new weapon?” He pointed down the hall, “It’s that way.”

I was walking down the hall with my new “friend” when I heard the barely audible click of a side arm being pulled out of a holster. I turned and I was face to face with the weapon. It was only a side arm sized thing, “Dammit how did you get that?” I saw through my goggles the glow of four more goggles. “I pulled it out of my holster.” I looked in horror as the weapon spooled up. I snapped Jim’s neck with one quick twist and I let him drop. I rolled to the left as a blue light shot from the barrel I ran up to him and swept his legs out. The weapon spooled up once again. I brought my entire arm down on his neck breaking his windpipe.

My team and I were caught in a blue explosion that left us blinded. “Grim, we need help. Grim? Guys we are on our own for now.” I looked around, my team was nowhere to be seen. “Guys? Can you hear me? Aaron, Jackie, Katie, can you hear me?” Dammit, there must have been something with that blast. I put in a message that said, “This is Brett Carrington, splinter cell unit 033, ID number 330294533AF. Please respond to any person that may be out there.” I noticed that I was in the middle of a field. It started to rain, I flipped my goggles down and turned it to heat vision. I scanned the immediate area for any threats, finding no visible threats, I put my goggles up and started walking down a path. I began to see houses in the distance and I started walking towards them.

I stepped into the town and everything was hushed, even the rain sounded quieter. I kept moving, I got the feeling that I was being watched from some place. I put my goggles on and I scanned the windows for heat signatures. My goggles were filled with heat signatures from every window. They were horse shaped and some had wings and some had horns. My grip on my SC 3000 tightened, I didn’t like where this was going. I quickened my pace and kept pointing my rifle at the windows. I found a large tree near the outskirts of the town, I sat down right next to the door of the tree house thing. I started humming to myself, I hummed a song that my mother used to sing to me when I was a kid. I started singing the song itself, “Sun sets low beneath the sky, leaves all in golden state, stars glow at edge of twilight, and here I stay, your words await. Goodnight, Goodnight.” I hummed the rest of the tune.

The door swung open, I stood up and rolled back behind a part of the tree from which I could not be seen. I pulled out my trusty Five-seveN pistol and pointed it in the general direction of the sound slowly coming towards me. I kept backing up around the base of the tree when I looked into the doorway I saw five more horse like creatures. They all came in sets of two except for the horned ones. I froze in a panicked state and I started to see the other horned, I need to think of a better name for them, being. I didn’t notice the cannon that one of the ones had with them. I was always told to keep a vigilant eye out for threats, I failed miserably at this.
