Prologue

Rriiiiiiiiiinggggggg!

Night Glimmer opened one eye slowly looking around her room, the color of the walls in her room was a medium shade of turquoise but  there was a little ray of light coming through the window blinds creating a lighter color where ever it landed.

She opened her other eye.

Her wandering eyes suddenly settled on the on the alarm clock then to the plain white ceiling. She tuned her body to face the side table where the alarm clock lay, Seven o'clock.

she reached out to extend her arm hitting roughly against the button on the top of the clock, she had a good half hour before she had to get to the train. Night Glimmer began to remember the night before when her father was trying to persuade her to become a worker of the skies. Glimmer knew that she would have to take on the responsibility for her father, Long before she was born there was a horrible storm causing trees to fall and the power to go out. Thunder Skies was a true hero for he saved Equestria by using his skills, not just knowledge clouds but of engineering to fix the power. Now Glimmer has to live up to his name.

"Your mother would be so proud if she knew what you were to become!" A big smile crept up on Thunder Skies face, Urging Glimmer to share the same fate as he.

"Yeah... I know." The remembrance of her mother saddened Glimmer, for not long ago Cloud Dancer had died. Night Glimmer couldn't bare to meet eye contact with her fathers.

"Hmmm." He grunted suspecting the sadness in his daughters tone. "Did I ever tell you the story of how I met Cloud Dancer?" He then asked

"No." This time more curiously, Glimmer always wanted to know, now this was her big chance

"Well, I was a young colt training to become a weather pony." He began. "Back then I had lived in a small town called Dodge city, I knew much about the weather team and Cloudsdale. As you my know not all pegausi lived in Cloudsdale. It was a big step for me when your grandfather Easyglider arranged a trip to Cloudsdale." Thunder Skies stopped for a moment to think

"Weeks later I was on a trip to Cloudsdale." He continued "I sent letters to Easyglider every night tell him about my discoveries, I had gotten a job opportunity as a Cloud keeper but that soon turned into a leader of the weather team."

"Uh... Does this have to you meeting mom?" Glimmer asked when once again her father stopped

"Oh right I was just getting to that." He cleared his throat "I was leading a team back to the other quads when we were ambushed by a group of Pegasusi wearing dark colored flight suits. The fight continued until my team couldn't hold up any longer. I had cuts along my arms and legs, just as I thought we were going to die I saw them coming."

"Who." Glimmer said aloud anxiously

"A group of amazing fighters, wearing light colored flight suits. They backed off the dark suited bandets and help my team to safety at the weather factory. After That, I never saw them again."

"Weeks after the incident, I met the most beautiful mare while walking on the streets, Her name was Cloud Dancer but she seemed very fimilar like I had seen her before but I knew that that wasn't the case. I learned that we had much in common, then two years later we moved to Manehatten, Thunder Skies finished "of course I never quit the weather team, But now that I have retired its your turn."

He then added

"Cool..." Glimmer was in deep thought, thinking about the story of when her father and mother first met.

"I bet you will have so much fun there, I sure did. That's where I met most of my friends such as Rainbow Blaze." Thunder Skies tried to change the subject after seeing the response from him daughter so he continued "He's now the manger of the Weather factory, I hope you meet him."

"Yeah." Night Glimmer saw the expression on her father's face, knowing that he wanted her to be happy but also follow in his hoof steps. She couldn't fake her love and excitement for the factory for much longer.

After a long and boring conversation about this repetitive topic, finally Night Glimmer gave in and at that Thunder Skies signed the form for the next semester in Cloudsdale.

Night Glimmer peeked around the corner of her father's study room and saw that he was writing quite fast.

probably wanting to tell the manger... oh what was his name? Rainbow Blizzard? No Rainbow Strike? no that's not it, Night Glimmer tried to rake her brain to remember the manger's name, he is Important after all.

"Hmmm..." She wondered aloud, then tightly closing her mouth realizing that she didn't what her father to find out that she was spying on him. Oh right Rainbow Blaze!

Lots of scribbling was going on when Night Glimmer saw her father roll up the scroll and throw it in the fire that was next to the desk in the room.

Night Glimmer had seen her father send scrolls a million times, he even let her send a few when her mother was on a business trip. The scroll disappeared into a cloud of green vapor that floated out of  the open window of the study.

Thunder Skies Tuned around to sit back in his chair, he thought for a moment when a cloud of green vapor stopped in front of Thunder Skies then became a scroll. Thunder Skies opened the scroll and read it, then took a little piece of paper from it. It was the permission slip that she had to sign in order to go to the weather factory. There was no way around it. she had to, for her father's sake.

As a Pegasus from Canterlot. Everypony  wanted to become a Wonderbolt, to fly with the best. This was Night Glimmer's biggest dream, she always knew that she  was a good flier, her father, Thunderskies thought that as well. That's why he wanted Night Glimmer to become a part of the Weather team in CloudsDale. But of course they had their differences, The young Pegasus wanted to be a well known flier of the Wonderbolts, while her father wanted her to...make clouds.

At that her image faded to black.

Night Glimmer  woke up to somepony shaking her, she could feel the touch of excitement

"Wake up, your going to miss the train."

She heard a voice say

Glimmer realized that she must have never gotten up after she had  turned her alarm clock off.

Glimmer leaned over to see her dad peering over with an expression as if to say,

Please do this for me. Make me proud.

"Breakfast is on the table, you better hurry up."

With that he trotted out of the room.

Night Glimmer shifted out of bed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She had already packed the day before so all she had to do was get ready for the train ride. Minutes later Glimmer got to the kitchen and saw a breakfast  of eggs and juice. The permission slip that she had signed the night before was on the table next to her breakfast, she picked it up and put it in her saddle bag hanging on the chair. She took in huge mouth fills of food, then chugged it down with juice. Glimmer flew out the door with her saddle bag and other luggage to the train station just in time, after along good-bye from her dad, she tried to hide the sadness from her face with a fake smile as she boarded the train to Cloudsdale.

The sound of the doors opening brought Night Glimmer back from her day dream. When the train stopped Glimmer got all of her stuff and walked onto the platform then walked down steps that were made of puffy clouds. She had forgotten what it was like to walk on clouds since she had lived in buildings and streets for so long. Cloud houses lined the streets that were buzzing with pegasusi. The Weather factory lay a few miles ahead. Glimmer started to fly toward it, with every flap of her winds her heart beat two times faster. What if there's a test and she failed, she would have to come home not knowing what to tell her father what had happened. she kept mumbling to herself, her eyes looking downward when she bumped into one of the pegasusi flying around.

"Oh sorry" Glimmer said looking up to see startling purple eyes staring back at her. The pony was staring at her like something was wrong. she wasn't much bigger then Glimmer, probably not much older either, her mane was down past her face, the color of the sea with light blue highlights. Her pelt was a light turquoise. She looked kind of familiar like she was seen in a dream but Glimmer dismissed the thought. Glimmer took a quick peek at the mare's cutie mark to see a dark blue horse-shoe half way surrounded by a curved lightning bolt.

A few seconds pass when the mare shook her head to get out of herself out of her own thoughts.

"Oh-uh...no worries." she said with a smile. "Are you new here?"

"Yeah, my name is Night Glimmer, I came here from Manehatten." Glimmer spoke up

"Cool, My name is Sunshower."

After a good long conversation with Sunshower, They shared a lot in common. They both wanted to become wonderbolts. The two pegasusi smiled at each other and began to fly toward the factory building, They opened the big doors to see the center of the big opening where a Pegasus was calling for attention to the group of new workers.

"Attention workers, my name is Rainbow Blaze I am the manger of the Weather factory." The rainbow manned Pegasus said.

Hey, Glimmer remembered her father was friends with this pony.

"I bet you will have many questions but don't worry Openskies and  Blueberry Punch will help. Please follow Openskies if you are new today, Old workers who are coming back for the new season follow Blueberry Punch." Glimmer looked to where the Pegasus is pointing, then she tried looking for Sunshower but she seemed to have disappeared. Glimmer  shrug, and didn't listen to the rest of what the rainbow maned Pegasus was saying. She keep her pace to find the pegasi named Openskies.

"Hello everypony, my name is Openskies and I am going to be your trainer and tour guide, I will show you the basic places of the weather factory." A darkish colored turquoise stallion with a dark blue mane said. "Tomorrow you will have one flying task, this task will tell you which assignment you will receive." he continued

Oh, that's not so bad it just one test Glimmer thought as she followed a group of new workers who were being pursued by the darkish blue stallion named Openskies.

Glimmer then realized that her new friend was missing, she wasn't in the group.

Glimmer walked up to Openskies and said

"Do you where a mare named Sunshower is?"

"I'm afraid not, for all I know there is no sunshower."

Glimmer nodded and backed away slowly

That's weird she thought

Glimmer watched Openskies as he talked. After a bit of explaining The started walking down a long hall that had lights hanging from the cloud ceiling. We passed a big door that had a wind symbol on it.

"This is the wind room." Openskies stopped. "This is where we create the wind that will travel all across Equestria, This wind helps Canterlot make energy for factories."

Glimmer around hoping she wasn't the only pony there who was amazed... she looked around Yep she pretty much was.

They continued to walk through the hall. The next door had a cloud symbol on it. But this time the group didn't stop.

"This is where we make the clouds, Some Pegasusi might become a cloud keeper." Openskies continued. " we fill these clouds with snow or rain and bring them to the different towns."

The next few minutes passed. The couple last rooms at the end of the hall before we turned at the corner were the thunder and lighting making room and snow flake room and then the rainbow room, where they make the famous rainbows. There was a lot more turning until Openskies lead us back to the center room where we first started. The room was now full of chairs and a podium where some pegasusi where talking. The group separated and started to fill up the seats. Once everyone was sitting the pegasus at the podium began to speak.

"Tomorrow you will be going through one task. I hope Openskies told you much about this.  Please find Openskies again, and he will show you to your rooms."

After Glimmer found Openskies again the group of new workers went down another hall, down the opposite hall they walked down earlier.

"This is where you will be sleeping tonight." Openskies said

There was a row of Rooms all lined up next to each other, there were at least one hundred or so new workers. They then all separated into groups, and walked inside our dorm room, bunk beds covered most of the space, it was big enough for at least ten ponies. They then all scattered. Glimmer was so tried from a long day, she jumped into the closes bunk that she could find and fell asleep instantly.
