Scootaloo dumped her scooter in the wild over-grown mess of plants that was her front yard. Her house was about a block away from school and looked almost exactly like every other house on the street. The only thing that made it stand out? The yard. All her neighbours had that flawless grass, those amazingly straight bushes, even the trees were nothing short of perfect. All of Ponyville thought Scootaloo's street was incredible. Scootaloo thought it was creepy. Really creepy.
She ran up to the front door and started pushing the doorbell over and over, yelling, "Mom! Let me in!"
Finally her mom opened the door. She was covered in baby food. "How was school today?" She asked Scootaloo.
Scootaloo replied in her trademark bored voice, "It was OK. Sweetie Belle showed me and Apple Bloom a good song."
"Really? What was it called?" Asked Scootaloo's mom.
Her daughter didn't reply and started to go upstairs.
"Oh, Scootaloo? Can you feed your brother for me?"
"UG. WHY?!" Grumbling, the annoyed filly headed downstairs again.
Later, a very tired and frustrated Scootaloo jumped on top of her bed. Why does Ace have to be so annoying? She thought as she was lying there, staring up at her ceiling.
Ace was Scootaloo's baby brother, who was a really picky eater. Scootaloo usually the one who had to feed him. If you looked at the two of them next to each other, you probably wouldn't be able to tell that they were siblings. Ace was cream with a spiky blue mane, and he could fly.
It isn't fair! She thought. Why me? Pound Cake can fly, and his parents are earth ponies! All my family, including my baby brother, are pegasi, and can fly! That means I should fly too...
Scootaloo woke up in a strange place. The ground and sky were swirling purple, blue, and black, constantly shifting. If you looked straight at it for a while, not blinking, trying to figure out which colour it really was, all you would figure out was that you had a headache.
Scootaloo reconized this place instantly. It was a dream. In her dream, Scootaloo could hear music playing.
The music was faint, and she could barely hear it. But as the song's chorus started, the music grew louder.
"Tell me, tell me, whatcha gonna do?

Whatcha gonna do when you finally open your eyes
And you’re finally above the clouds in the clear, blue skies?

Imediately, Scootaloo knew what she had to do in this dream. When the chorus started again, Scootaloo sang with it.
" This is what I'll do when I'm finally free,
This is what I'll do when I finally open my eyes,
This is what I'll do when I'm finally above the clouds in the clear blue skies,
This is what I'll do when I'm finally..."
Suddenly, the swirling darkness around Scootaloo changed, but the music kept playing. Reminding her of her purpose in this dream.
Scootaloo looked around. She was lying under a tree in Ponyville's park. But nopony was staring, she realized. Usually when Scootaloo went to the park, all the foals laughed at her because she couldn't fly. Or because she was a blank flank. Or both. "I'm finally free!" She yelled. "This is a dream, so I'm gonna fly, and NOTHING can stop me!"
Scootaloo unfurled her wings and pushed down hard. She rocketed into the air fast, and clumsily started flapping towards the nearest cloud. The wind rushed past her and forced her eyes to close. "I'm FLYING!" Scootaloo shouted. I wish Rainbow Dash could see me now! She landed on a cloud and opened her eyes.
The filly saw Equestria spread out before her, like a map, hundreds of thousands of times bigger than usual. Ponyville, Canterlot, Clousdale, Appleloosa, Manehattan, and many more cities, all glittering in the morning sunlight.
"I finally opened my eyes, and now I'm finally, above the clouds in the clear blue skies," Scootaloo sang. And I'll show you what I'm gonna do when I'm finally... She thought, grinning.
Scootaloo soared higher and higher, as the clouds covered Equestria, leaving her alone, hovering there, and staring down at a seemingly endless field of fluffy whiteness. She turned, pointing straight down, and dropped.
She flew faster than she ever had in her whole life. Faster than she had ever seen anypony else fly. She looked behind her and saw the awesome purple and orange trail glowing in the sky. Scootaloo loved it. She sang over the rush of the wind,
"This is what I'll do when I'm finally...FLYING!" She shouted that last word to the world as she heard the air behind her explode. Scootaloo pulled up just as she was about to hit the ground and saw that purple and orange arc in the sky. A Sonic Scootaboom. That was the perfect name. This was the perfect moment. Scootaloo was happier than she had ever been in her whole life. Just wait until school tomorrow, when I show Diamond Tiara that i can fly! Then Scootaloo remembered this was a dream. Who cares? she thought. Flying is better than cutie marks anyway. And with her new motivation, she took off into the sky. Forget cutie marks. Scootaloo just wanted to fly. For real. And that, would be about 20% cooler than anything she could do in a dream.
Scootaloo woke up in her own bed, in own house. That was the best dream ever! She thought as she got out of bed. Scootaloo looked out the window,and saw her scooter sitting there, in her yard, waiting for her to ride it to school. Scootaloo smiled. You know what? I think I'll fly to school today...
