A Look in the Mirror
The Beginning or The End
Load Full StoryThe dead of night is reserved for two kinds of activities generally.
I really liked todays Episode! It's always great to see a Rarity episode and I loved the song they had. Did anypony else catch the...
Ones you simply didn't have time for and had to get done before the next day.
...really liked the foreshadowing of Twilights secret and I really hope next chapter Lyra can talk to Bon Bon about what happened at the dance. Can't wait to see what happened next!
And ones that wouldn't generally be accepted in the light of day, with the rest of the persons daily schedule.
This song needs more guitar. It's good...it just needs to be...cooler...by about 20%! ...Ok, I'll go...
On this particular night, nearly everyone in the neighborhood was deep asleep, tired from a long work day and egar to rest, except for one person, living in that one house on the left.
Hey! I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you earlier, had some school work to catch up on. Now with this last chapter I spotted a few grammar mistakes and a couple plot holes...
This particular individual was partaking in activities of the second category, nothing too odd, nothing to warrant scandal or confrontations, but enough to raise a few eyebrows.
Hey man, just stick with it, forget those guys, ponies are best man, and if they don't understand it, then they don't need to understand it!
Hours would pass, and yet the tapping of the keyboard would continue long into the night
Screw you and your false maturity! Real men like whatever they like and Ima gonna love and tolerate the shit out of you! You think your so great...
Until finally, with the early light of the dawn beginning to peek over the horizon, the man logged off his computer, rolled into bed and was quickly fast asleep.
"Whatever man, I'm a brony and proud of it. I'm going to keep being a brony and your going to keep being an asshole..."
The man's dreams were unusually bland this night, show a plain empty darkness instead of anything else the man was accustomed to dreaming. Rather than flashes of memories or nonsensical scenes pertaining to his life, he floated in an abyss, blackness enveloping him.
No movement. No color. No sound.
"GREETINGS W-"
"Luna, volume!"
Well at least not for very long. Before him was an...aurora of color for lack of a better description, the deepest and richest of blues and purples swirling together pin pricks of light blinking in and out, almost hurting his eyes with how bright the colors stood out to the rest of the room.
"S-sorry... Ahem, hello, I am Princess Luna co-ruler of Equestria. I am here to-"
" Oh! I know this! You need to get help for a friendship problem? Ok! I'l-"
"No, I do not need your help-"
"Oh! Equestria is in danger and you need m-"
"No! Equestria is not in any danger!"
"Ohhh it's one of those dreams! You need new sperm to repopulate the Pony race!"
At this the colors contracted and spiraled, some mute scarlet streams worked their way into the cloud.
"I must assure you that we can manage that quite well on our own thank you ver-"
Then you must be here to confess your undyin-"
"NO! We are here to act as a mediator and a conduit! Others have a wish to contact you."
"...About what?"
"I believe it pertains to well...you."
"And the reason why you're a color cloud is...?"
"Oh, well this is not your average dream, some sacrifices were made to ensure that the message came across clearly. In fact...hmmm, perhaps if I took away your ability to talk it might work a bit better... Oh lets try it!"
The man opened his mouth to protest, and found he could not.
" Hmm, it is slightly better...and perhaps it would be best for whats to come. Now then, I believe Rainbow Dash wanted to go first? "
Before the mans eye's the rich dark colors seemed to fade,as a sky blue streaked across his vision, quick flashes of other colors darting in and out around the center of the blue cloud. The the sparkling cloud seemed to drift lifelessly for a bit, before taking off, zooming around the dark expanse.
"Oh, wow! This is weird... I mean going from solid awesome to this poofy awesome and- hmm? Oh right right, the thing! Twi had us all write it down earlier and I have the card... somewhere."
The Blue Cloud paused in it's flight and tilted slightly.
"Hey Twilight? How do I get it when I'm a cloud?"
The puzzled cloud lightly took on a pink tint before settling back to normal.
"Oh thanks Twi! Okay! Here we go. You!"
The man tried to straighten up as much as he could while floating in a dream, "Uh, yes?"
The cloud seemed to "center" itself, all the bright colors coming to rest at the top to form a vibrant patch of swirling rainbow at the top of the blue mass. The man got the vague impression that the cloud was looking him
"Dude...what are you doing? I mean seriously! Yeah yeah, I get that we're like, your awesome super amazing heroes and all, and that you say we inspire you but... really. What are you doing? Your just siting here, commenting. And like...that's it! You're not working on making yourself awesome, your not even showing people how Awesome I am! Your just here. Watching our old adventures, commenting on other peoples radical stuff, letting your imagination sit there and.. and It's not cool!"
"Your not even an egg head! Egg heads at least do....what ever egg heads do! They do math or some less awesome thing. But they're still doing something! And yeah, I know what it's like to have such super dazzling role models like us. Remember I used to be quite the fan of the Wonderbolts. But do you know what I did? I took what they taught me and flew with it. I put myself out there, I took a bucking risk! And do you know what? It paid off. I had to work some less awesome jobs but I got there in the end. Now look at me? Wonderbolts member, Element of Harmony and awesome mare that's so cool, I was able to amaze hairless male monkeys to follow a show made for little girls. I mean lets be honest here, that sounds dorky. But you guys did it! You watched us and learned our friendship lessons and created cool and awesome things! Thought you still need to go a ways. Art and stories and music that shows the world and everyone in it exactly how awesome we are! How much we can do and make! "
The entire time the cloud spoke, the it would dart around the man, pausing, expanding and contracting for a moment, then continuing on with it's monologue.
"Except... not you. You just sit here. With your phone, with your computers, with your TVs, you watch and watch and watch... lesson after lesson, work of art after work of art each one made to inspire and awe and what do you do?"
"You press a button, add it to a list, and move onto the next."
The Multi-color cloud rushed into the mans face.
"Not. Cool. "
The cloud backed off and drifted aimlessly for a bit.
"But I get it! We're so awesome that you can't help but look at us, now that's what I call some crazy loyalty right there. And that why Twi got me and the girls to send these messages! So we can look you straight in the eye, with a completely serious face and tell you..."
The cloud froze and rotated slightly.
"Stop. You already know how to be awesome! You know the difference between Coolness, Awesomeness and Radicalness! You've been watching nonstop for over a year! Over a few years now! Your one of the most loyal fans we have!"
"And you know this. You know how to be loyal, to stay dedicated in something that you truly believe. To stand for something and say "Hey! This thing is cool right here! And I don't care what you say!"
"But this...what your doing, who you are right now, this is bad loyalty. This is dedication to an insane degree. I mean, I was crazy about the Wonderbolts! But I still had my life. I still had friends and we did things and we had a lot of fun! We did a lot of other cool things at the same time."
"So why aren't you? Your turning your back on all the other cool things in life; friends and family. You leave them hanging to just watch a friendship lesson you already know. You have this entire arsenal of friendship goodness to streak across your home and show them how awesome you are..."
The cloud paused and the light blue that covered the majority of it seemed to darken.
"So why won't you?"
"I don't understand...I mean yeah we're a cool bunch of ponies to see but...being cool on your own...isn't cool at all. "
With her rant over, the cloud fell silent, leaving the man to stare at it with wide eyes. He was not expecting a serious dream of this caliber.
"I just...listen, I'm no good at this mushy stuff, so I'm gonna hoof it over to Fluttershy...just...don't be so single minded dude, there's a lot more out there than just us."
Like a flash, the cloud was gone and darkness, settled over the space.
...
"Oh! Um.. is- is it my turn now? Oh um... o-okay."
A warm yellow glow seemed to fill the space, like a bright light bulb or a small sun, offering this patch of darkness both light and heat.
"H-hello... Twilight's been saying that you've been having some trouble...that you're having so much fun watching us...that your not addressing what's really important. She said that you...well...she doesn't think that your spending your time all that well. And... well, I don't know if that's true or not, I mean I used to be sorta like that. No really! Back before Twilight came to Ponyville, I would love just watching and caring for my animal friends all day. I'd watch Mr. Owl muster up the courage to talk to Ms. Brown Horn Owl... I would let all my chickens in the yard..and, and I'd hide a pile of corn in the field and see who could find it first. I would watch for hours at a time, and it' be really fun too! I learned a lot about animals just by watching them. "
This Cloud was much different than the other, while the blue one would flash and flare as it moved about, this one seemed content to stay in place, only shift slightly in between pauses. And there were quite a few pauses.
"But I didn't do it all the time.. If I watched them all the time...then I wouldn't get anything done. And if I didn't get anything done then the animals would starve and I'd be out of money!"
"I would starve."
"...We...ponies don't need to be fed...Oh! No! Not like that!"
The yellow cloud began to quiver.
" I-I mean um...like... If your watching us...that's okay! It's good to have that time to relax and enjoy someone else s happiness!"
"But...It...wouldn't be your happiness...d-does that make sense? A-and if your not happy...then..."
Suddenly the cloud vanished, moving to the endge of the man's awareness.
"Ohhhhh, Twilight? I-I don't think I can do this!"
The faintest whips of lavender seemed to swirl around the yellow cloud before disappearing back into the darkness.
"Yes you can! Remember to just take a breath, and assert your point."
"Right right...okay, deep breath...phew..."
The yellow cloud returned to the center, its quivers and shakes settling as it began to drift calmly once more.
"Your not happy, and we're not your friends. We have our own lives to live and you have yours. And that's a good thing. It means that you have so many new friends you can make, but only if your willing. I understand being afraid of actual people. I was the same way! I surrounded by self with cute adorable animals and told myself that I didn't need anypony else. "
"But I was starving. I didn't know it until I went to the spa with Rarity for the first time, but I was. I thought that by watching the happy animals and by making them happy that I would be happy... but I wasn't actually happy until me and Rarity would talk about things at the spa. And that's only part of it! It turns out I wasn't taking care of myself. When I went to the spa...they found ticks, fleas, dirt... I knew I had let myself go a little bit... But I had no idea it had gotten that bad! All these things I never would have known if I had stayed alone. I would have just gotten worse and worse, my money dwindling until-"
The could shivered once and was still once more.
"I-I don't like thinking about what would have happened if I hadn't met the girls."
"It was because they were kind to Me that I was able to see myself and take care of my needs before I went too far. Now...now I'm happy, my home is a lot cleaner...and I can help more animals in town because now everyone knows how good I am with animals! And the places I've visited! I've been able to see so many different animals now! From the Butterfly migration to animals I didn't even know exist before! Its so exciting!"
The cloud went silent and circled the man, its warm glow casting barely visible shadows into the darkness.
"Me and the girls have learned a lot about friendship. How to talk to each other, the weight of a promise, several other things... But we don't know everything. If you just spend your time with us, learning the same friendship lessons we learn...you won't learn anything new. And we won't learn anything from you."
"...or anything good at least."
The yellow cloud reared back, pink quickly flooding the yellow.
"Oh! I'm sorry! That was rude of me! I'm sorry! I was just trying to help! I just meant... your hungry right now...and we can't feed you that's not how this works. I can help Mr. Bear for a little while, but once he's better he needs to go back into the forest."
"Oh dear, I hope you're not mad, are you mad? Ohhh... Rarity! Rarity you take over now!"
And the yellow cloud vanished into the darkness.
"Yes, Hello dear, Twilight had mention- MY WORD!"
A dazzling white cloud sparkled intensely temporarily blinding the man.
"What are you wearing!?!"
The sparkly cloud seemed to inspect the man.
"No. Unacceptable, take that off right now! You call yourself a friend of the great Rarity while wearing that on your person?"
The cloud paused at the front and sparkled fiercely before circling the man.
"I mean honestly dear, were glad you enjoy our show enough to wear a picture of us and all but that shirt is just so...narrow! No, no, no! An outfit is suppose to say Who you are, not just to tell people what your interested in. People would think that your obsessed! And that would be a horrible first impression."
The cloud continued to circle the man, caught up in it's rant.
" There is nothing more important than making a good impression! Without it, you wouldn't be able to make any friends! You've talked to Rainbow Dash already, yes? Then you know that she can get a little...passionate about 'being awesome' as she so fondly states. However that is only how she gets with friends, where she feels safe to let her ego swell, why if she acted like that when I first met her I imagine that it would have taken a lot longer before we became the friends we are now."
The white cloud paused in it's circling and turned towards the man.
"Hmm, I don't suppose you know how me and Rainbow first met... I don't think the show went that far back..."
A pause.
"Well... even if you do know... I believe it was when I had been caught in a rainstorm and went to the weather office to complain.
Yes, I know, there I was soaking wet, my make-up running down my face and she was just an receptionist at the time..."
The cloud began to pace, for lack of a better word, in front of the man.
"Anyways dear, I'm getting off topic, the point is that, despite my less than spectacular appearance, she remained calm and collected and genuinely connected with me. She took my concern and gracefully rebuked me for not checking the schedule while providing me with a towel to dry off and an umbrella to use on the way back. Given the way I was acting at the time, she was more than generous with me."
The cloud paused to regard the man.
"Do you follow?"
The man stared at her.
" Well just to be perfectly clear, it wasn't about the impression I made on her, it was the impression she made on me. The way she acted and the way she appeared was entirely professional. She did her job and did it well. She was only wearing the required weather office hat, which really didn't match with her coat or mane at all and she was still able to wear it with pride and let her true character shine through her professional appearance."
The cloud paused.
"Wait..."
The cloud rapidly began to move around the expanse, letting of a steady stream of sparkles.
"No, no, no! Oh dear, I'm afraid I'm not explaining myself very well at all am I?"
"The point Darling is, that appearances and attitude matter. With that...'shirt' you we're adopting a plain, unsubtle declaration of what you felt that others needed to know. But what you were also announcing with that...thing. Was that your character began and ended with that shirt."
The cloud paused again and appeared to be staring intently at the man drifting ever closer.
"All of your being, who you are, who you could be, shaved down to a picture of me and my friends dressed up like comic book heroes...
That's not acceptable. I won't allow you to limit yourself and cut yourself off from potential friends because you are enamored with us."
"Now...Twilight said this was a one time thing and I'm afraid I don't have enough time to make you a full ensemble but I trust if I give you advice next time you shop you'll follow it? "
"Oh of course you will! Now then, the first thing you need to do is to think of your body like a house. Your in a given area and thus you reflect, not just yourself, but those around you. If you smell, people will notice, and thus before you do any exterior designing, you need to first take a bath!"
"The second thing is to be comfortable in your own clothes. Do you know why you liked that shirt?"
"Right right, you can't talk to us. Well... I'd guess that you liked our adventure as the Power Ponies and the fabric is a of a softer quality, but do you understand why you felt comfortable in that shirt?"
The cloud seemed to be staring expectantly at the mans face.
Silence settled.
Silence continued.
Silence got up and left again.
The Cloud let out a flurry of sparkles.
"Because it hid the real you! If someone looked at you while you wear that shirt, they would see us on the cover and nothing more. They see the shirt and make their assumptions based on that. And granted, it's not the most polite thing to do but it's what we always do. You do it too. However that is a social-psychological issue and that is not the main focus, the main focus is that you need to find clothes that represent you. So that when they see the shirt, they see it as a piece of your whole and as a complete person. "
The cloud, apparently satisfied, began to drift off...only to rush straight at the man as fast as it could
"And for everything good under the sun! A FEDORA IS NOT YOU! Goodness, the amount of people that think one hat will make whatever they're wearing into a masterpiece...I never."
A pause.
"When people put on the fedora, they think that the hat makes them look cool. But that "coolness" is from the hat, you need to find what makes you cool. Your people are suppose to be advanced correct? Well then, do your research, pick up a magazine, go outside and people watch, see what other people wear and how it represents who they are! "
"You'll find that most ponies think as you do, that by wearing what's in, you yourself are "in" as it were. But its not the case. Those who stand out, those who you'll notice, they will have an appearance that is entirely and completely them with or without the clothes. It was a lesson that I had to learn very harshly... I mean, when you aren't aware of it its easy to make the mistake...but like with most mistakes, if you don't catch it in time you'll suffer some...unpleasant consequences. I had claimed that I knew fashion when in reality all I knew were color patterns... I am grateful to have met the ponies who could teach me differently. Which makes it a good reason that I caught it now with you instead of later! Now, moving onto mane styles..."
The vibrant cloud began to fade mid-sentence.
"Oh Goodness, we're out of time. Remember darling, your body is a house that needs to be maintained! Adding a simple bird-feeder isn't going to hide the over grown grass or old paint. And I better not hear about you wearing that ghastly shirt again do you hear me?"
A few more sparkles and the white cloud was gone. Light was again gone from the man.
"Psst, up here!"
The man looked up.
"SUNRISE!!! "
Darkness exploded into PINK.
"hahahahahahahhaha! *snort* wowie! You sure looked surprised! Hi! I'm Ponyville's Pink Party Pony Pinkie Pie! But you knew that already didn't you?"
"Twilight explained the entire thing to us! The watching all the fun stuff we've been doing, laughing at the jokes and that's super-terrific! It means my jokes are making more than just ponies laugh! I'm just tickled Pink!"
"Well...I would be. If someone wasn't such a stagnate sitting sitter who just sits all day rather than going out and playing! Or at least that's what Twilight says, but I don't believe it, "
"Any pony whose a fan of Pinkie Pie's knows that they need to go out there and spread some joy! Now tell me what you've been up to! Don't worry! Just think it! No need for talkin-"
As the cloud spoke, the man's memory filled with what he did.
"O-oh...well... that's ok! I bet your just practicing your stand up! Right! Yeah! That kind of comedy needs time an-"
More memories.
Silence.
"Oh."
More silence.
"Every day?"
Nothing changed.
"B-but that's not fun at all! "
The PINK slowly began to shrink. Slowly at first, then gaining speed.
"No!"
"No its not! Your not having fun! Your not doing fun stuff! Wha- Why? That's not why I wanted!"
"Your suppose to take the fun and spread it around... to find other fun people and make friends with them...not just keep me as your only source of fun..."
The pink cloud condensed in on itself and began to drift in the expanse it once occupied. The shade of pink turning darker.
"I kinda understand though...it's always easier to enjoy others jokes, because your on the receiving end. That's why jokes are one of the best form of comedy, It's safe for the recipient, all they need to do is laugh or not laugh, no danger of being reject."
"It's why I always try to avoid jokes. Because they're not as fun. With gags or bits, your interaction with one another. The straight pony makes the stand up routine funny, the physical gag is accented by others actions. That's being funny."
The man could not speak, but he could stare.
"Hmm? Oh sorry! I don't normally talk about this stuff... But being fun isn't just being silly in the moment, its about planning and improving. Sometimes it's easy, you pretend to trip, you intentional misunderstand someone one and everyone laughs. But the best laughs come from carefully planned comedy. Like Parties! Without proper planning, the entire party would be a mess. Sure somepony might have a good time, but there is a greater chance of someone missing out on a slice of cake or their turn to pin the tail on the pony."
The cloud began to slowly expand, not to the size it once was, but to a respectable size.
"It's all about the planning, you get to iron out the other issues and refine it for the biggest yield possible...a lot of life is like that. You don't just decide to become good at something or to do something amazing... you need to plan it. Find out what you need and what you have. It's how I can throw parties and act funny. I plan on when to work hard so that I can play harder and where it counts the most. "
The cloud stopped expanding and froze.
"Tell me... do you have a plan?"
Silence.
"It doesn't have to be to be funny, it could be anything really, learning a new skill, getting a new thing, going to a new place...."
A thought passed through the mans mind.
"And not just an "idea" either! You can't fool old Pinkie Pie with that one! No sir! You need a solid plan of attack, a beginning a middle and end, a head, shoulders, knees, and tails! Because when you have that plan...it doesn't matter how bad things get or how lost you feel..."
The cloud exploded forward into is brighter hue.
"Because all you need to do is follow the plan."
"That's how I can face all these meanies of Equestria without being so scared. I know it'll be okay because tomorrow I have to get up and feed Gummy before going to the market and buying supplies for Mr. and Mrs. Cake. I'm going to do it, so I can get through today. I'll be okay because I need to in order to get stuff done tomorrow. You have something like that right?"
"Riiiiiiight?"
The pink cloud began to slowly fade.
"...Right?"
"Please tell me you have a plan."
The man was left floating in darkness a while, the silence more oppressive now that the boisterous voice was gone. But slowly, orange wisps began to filter into the mans view.
"Is it my turn? Alrighty then...here goes."
Rather than move further into his vision, the wisps stayed where they were, just barely in sight.
"Look Sugarcube, what everypony here is trying to say is... your killing yourself. If you died tomorrow what would have been your life? Staring at a screen, while doing the minimum required of you? Just doing school cuz your Mom and Pop told you to? I sure hope not, because me and the girls here, we care about you. Your one of our biggest fans, and some of us feel responsible, and while their free to think their own thoughts, I think both you and I know the truth partner. Be honest."
"This is all just filler for you. There's nothing keeping you here, nothing holding you back, absolutely nothing else impacting yourself but yourself. And for what? Six ponies who have their own lives with their own friends and their own families? What about your friends? What about your family huh? Do they mean anything to you? What about all this nonsense about just taking and lookin at what other people make huh? Many of our other fans do plenty of stuff to keep themselves moving, they color, the write, heck now, you all even got them fancy animations! So why aren't you doing anything with those people huh? So what do you want to do? Sugarcube... at the end of the day, we have our friends and family, these adventures your watching and reading about...they're our adventures. Not yours. Our lives are fill with beautiful sights beyond compare danger and exercise, being alive. But...if this is all your doing...just...watching us...then your not living at all Sugarcube. You don't have any friends, your not making memories...."
"Your dying."
"And only you can stop that."
The man didn't even notice that the wisps were gone.
What he did notice was the overwhelming wave of lavender that completely pushed back the darkness and enveloped the man.
"Uh...thanks...Applejack...that was...very straight forward....Ahem, Hello! You already know who I am, Twilight Sparkle, student to Princess Celestia, I focused a lot on my studies until I got out of the castle and met five amazing ponies in the town of Ponyville, elements of harmony-"
The purple expanse shimmered and reformed into a smaller cloud, settling on a white backdrop. The cloud sighed.
"...Look, you know me, you know all my friends. And we're glad that you know us, ecstatic even! I mean hearing that hundreds of others have been learning about the magic of friendship while we just lived our lives. That's incredible! So much learning happening at once! So many friendships being formed, over us! A cultural revolution that's helping so many and in such a quick amount of time? I'm blown away! But...the we heard about you and the others like you. The ones who get swept up in all the hype and art...that they don't do anything on their own. I know a lot about that. Hayfeathers, that was my entire childhood. Reading about every great unicorn and hero from throughout history. Tales of struggles, of fighting for whats right. Paving new grounds into magical theory, exploring the other continent, falling in love there were so many incredible ponies in those books! I had to know them all!"
The cloud seemed to shrink in on itself.
"And I've never regretted a decision any more than the one I made to shut out my family, to shut out Spike, in favor of those books. Because all those ponies in those books, all the philosophers and mathematicians, all the heroes and villains, they were all dead. They already lived their lives and there I was, reading about events long past and thinking that me learning about them, even the specifics of what they wear...that it would somehow make me..like them."
"But it didn't. Instead it distracted me and kept me alone, well into the beginning of adulthood, pushed to the point where it took the ancient power of harmony and the near end of the world before I made my first friends. My entire childhood, my teenage years, all the years of reading books."
"A complete waste. I was pathetic."
"When Princess Celestia told me that we were impacting so many, I was so happy. Others could learn from my mistakes and enjoy their lives and make so many new friends! Make new adventures! Start so early!"
"Then she told me about people like you...and I had never been so furious. "
"Your doing exactly what I did! Wasting your life because the stories and the drawings have you convinced your living an amazing life in a rich and vast world! Your not! Your still exactly where you started out, not moving an inch, just consuming story after story, art after art. Just going and going and going and going and WHY WONT YOU STOP! Its right here in front of you! The literal guide to friendship! You can do everything I cant! You can make your own story! You can learn how to do things! How to fly! How build things! Travel the work! Talk to people! Learn from them! How to bring your imagination to life and make something of yourself! But what do you do instead of creating? Instead of Growing? YOU BUCKING CONSUME! Your just eat and eat and puke up other peoples work to call it your own. You just comment on the characterization or compare it to other works, WHY DOES IT MATTER? THEY'RE AT LEAST MOVING FORWARD! YOU HAVEN'T CONTRIBUTED ANYTHING! YOU HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING! WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING YOU WORTHLESS UNGRATEFUL FILLY! "
Silence echoes and the white backdrop began to fade back to black.
"I-I'm sorry. I n-need a m-minute..."
If the man had to describe what he was seeing, he would have called it a purple rain cloud.
"It's hard. Seeing it happen again. To a different person that, until yesterday, I had no idea existed. I-I though my story could change people, l-let them know what the mistakes w-were before they made them. I guess I was wrong."
"D-do you know what really burns, what digs into my coat?"
"Is that it's because of me. I did this to you. You're stuck just like I was, trapped thinking that you know better, that these stories help you grow. That it's all leading up to something. They don't....they don't...they kill you. "
"I-I'm killing you."
Darkness had settled and the vibrant lavender began to fade.
"Please."
"Please don't do this to yourself. You have an entire world out there, one full of individuals and things to do, beautiful things, things you could never reach on your own. Please...do it...just...go outside your house, smile and say hello to some one who walks by. Something..."
"Anything..."
"Please...after all the time you've spent with us... go make some friends."
"Just...don't keep doing this......please...I don't want you to fade...to disappear into the background..."
"B-because...a-as your friend...I c-care about you!"
The color was gone and he was alone in the darkness. Only echos remained.
Celestia stepped out of the dreamscape and nodded to Luna as they both approached the huddle the surrounded the sobbing Twilight, crying fiercely into Fluttershy's mane.
Celestia glanced back at the center of the room, where in the closing portal she could see the awoken human,, a puzzled look on his face as he looked out his bedroom window.
She watched as the portal got smaller and smaller...until it was gone.
"D-do you t-think he'll listen to u-us?"
"I don't know."

"The Distance between your Dreams and Reality is called Action."

This is...a thingy. I first had the idea to practice the voice of each character without any setting or character interaction but as I wrote it got...very personal. A mixture of real life events and my own thought process led to what you just read. Dumping it here before I go anywhere else with this account to close the door on the person I used to be. Whelp, the past is in the past, and now so is this oneshot. Onward and upwards.
