Chapters Sonata smiles with glee as she opens her paycheck. She see's she finally made enough money to buy Aria a wonderful Valentine's Day gift. It was suppose to be a birthday present but . . . since they lost their singing voices things weren't the same. Sonata smiles happily and she dances around accidentally bumping into Chrysalis.
"Oh hey Chrissy didn't see you there," Sonata said with a chipper smile. Chrysalis usually would have been angry at the ordeal, but just gave a warm smile to the siren.
"It's quite alright Sonata," she said with a slight smile.
"Um I was wondering Chrysalis. Would you help me find a gift for Aria since your her friend and all?" Sonata asks. Chrysalis smiles and nods knowing very well that Sonata had a good amount of feelings for Aria.
"Oh thank you Chrissy you're the best!" Sonata hugs Chrysalis tightly only to almost crush poor Chrysalis. Once Sonata let go the dark gray girl breathes a large gasp of air.
"Oops sorry," Sonata blushed with embarrassment, but Chrysalis didn't mind. They both left their stations and went around the mall to look for the perfect gift for Aria. Sonata looks around the isle of clothing for her style. She see's a black corset with aqua lace running through it. She shows the corset to Chrysalis. She gives it a skeptical look and smiles at Sonata.
"You're in the right direction, but try something purple and green," she said. Sonata nods in agreement and finally see's a nice belt. It is purple with aqua like stars. There is no glitter on it and seems to be in Aria's style of clothing, and she also remembers yelling at Adagio for running her other belt. Chrysalis goes up behind the cyan blue girl and notices the belt, she smiles in approval and they both head off to the jewelry shoppe where Sunset Shimmer works.
"Hey Sunny!" Sonata said with a cheerful grin on her face. The fiery haired girl looks at the cyan girl with a warm smile.
"Hey Nata, your order is ready," Sunset Shimmer said reveling an amethyst necklace with a diamond studded silver chain along with beautiful sapphires glittering underneath the amethyst. It came with an Aquamarine bracelet which is engraved with Sonata's initials as well as Aria's.
"You really went all out for her huh," the fiery haired girl said with a light hearted smile. Sonata nods with happiness and reaches for her wallet to pay Sunny, but Sunset raises her hand to stop Sonata.
"Payment won't be necessary, Rarity wants you to have it for free."
"For realzies?!" Sunset chuckles and nods.
"For realzies, now run along and get something that Aria will really love." Sonata nods and smiles heading to the candy shoppe to get Aria's favorite candy. Aria loves sour candies she hated anything sweet said to make her sick. So Sonata decided to get her sour skittles and left the mall.
Sonata arrives at her house and waves goodbye the Chrysalis. She enters the home seeing it empty. Sonata found this strange and peculiar, she looks around the house to find a clue. She goes into the kitchen and finds a note on the refrigerator from Adagio.
Dear Sonata
Aria and I are spending Valentine's Day together, hope you don't mind. We won't be back until 10:00 this evening, I made you some taco's they're in the oven. They're also movies on the table in the living room I didn't want to leave you alone, so hopefully that will cheer you up. Please be careful Sonata, and Happy Valentines Day!
Love Adagio
Sonata crumples the note up and throws it away, tears falling as she did.
"You lied to me Dagi, you said that you wouldn't take Aria away," Sonata cries going to her room leaving the gifts out on the table. For once taco's couldn't cheer her up. Nothing could explain the pain and misery she feels, but Adagio is going to get it when she comes home. For now Sonata sleeps and hopes that this is just a bad dream.
Adagio and Aria are laughing outside, and keys rattle as Adagio unlocks the door. Aria flicks on the light and they both are startled when they see Sonata sitting on the couch watching a movie.
"Jeez Sonata almost gave us a heart attack," Aria said and then notices tears on Sonata's cheeks. Aria usually would have been annoyed, but this is Valentines day.
"Hey what's wrong don't you have a valentine?" Aria asks and Sonata finally turns to face her with a sad stricken face.
"No I didn't get the chance to ask the person, their gifts are sitting on the table," Sonata said curling up into a ball with the blanket surrounding her in warmth she doesn't feel. Adagio feels horrible and hopes that Aria doesn't figure it out, but she knew it would be the best if Sonata knew the truth. Aria is curious about Sonata's crush and looks inside the bag to see jewelry, sour candy, and a new belt it didn't take long for Aria to figure out the secret crush. Aria goes to Sonata in pure rage and rips the cover off of Sonata. Adagio fear stricken is about to intervene but Aria makes an arm gesture not too.
"Really Sonata?! Me?! What made you think you had a chance with me?!" Aria shouted making Sonata cringe in fear.
"Aria stop this isn't right," Adagio's calm voice interrupts Aria's tantrum.
"Stay out of this Adagio!" Aria snarls with anger and her attention goes back onto the cyan girl.
"I- I- I just wanted you to know how important to me that's all," Sonata said with honesty and Aria scoffs.
"You're not important to me, you're just an idiot that makes my life hell. There's not a thing you can do right!" Aria yells and Sonata runs to her room slamming her door shut and locking it. She finally collapses onto the bed and cries. The girl that she had loved for years didn't even love her back. Sonata cries herself to sleep while Adagio gives Aria a dirty look.
"Smooth move Aria," Adagio hisses and walks up to her room leaving Aria with the gifts that Sonata had bought for her. She looks at the necklace and the bracelet. She sighs and breaks the necklace and the bracelet. Adagio calls Sunset Shimmer and smiles hearing Sunnys voice.
"I wish I spent Valentine's day with you," Adagio said with regret obvious in her voice.
"Why what happened?" Sunset asks.
"Well I was trying to do Sonata a favor. I took Aria out to see if she had something for Sonata. Nothing but aggravation and a lot of dislike." Sunset Shimmer is silent on the other line before sighing.
"Is Sonata okay?"
"No, she is destroyed because Aria piratically said the most cruelest things I had ever heard her use," Adagio replies.
"Give it time Adagio maybe Aria really does like Sonata but is trying to put on the tough girl act," Sunset says with hope in her voice.
"I hope you're right," Adagio said looking at the night sky with sadness, "please Celestia please make sure Sonata has pleasant dreams."
Sonata's Lament
Sonata lies onto her bed not wanting to get up. She was terribly upset of how Aria had treated her.
"Oh Ari, why?" Sonata pondered and whimpered inside her bed sheets. Soon Sonata's alarm clock went off letting her know it was time to wake up and get ready for school. Sonata turns off the annoying box and heads to her closet. She opens the paper white door and see's all of her pink out fits. Sonata didn't want to wear the cheerful color pink, so instead she puts on a teal blue tank top with a white jacket and a teal blue long skirt with white boots. Sonata wore her original make up and decided not to wear a pony tail today. She only brushed her hair and curled the ends. Sonata walks out to the kitchen and steps on something, she looked down to see the jewelry broken into pieces and candy bits on their hard wood floor. Sonata knelt down her eyes welling up with tears once again but stopped as her sadness and pain turned to rage. Sonata got up from the floor and started to clean up the mess but took the jewelry pieces into her pocket.
"Hopefully Rarity can fix this," Sonata said in a whisper. Sonata hears a yawn coming from the hall way and see's her poofy haired friend. Adagio looks at Sonata with a smile until she notices her sadness.
"What's wrong?" Adagio asks, Sonata looks at Adagio with tears streaming down.
"When I came down this morning the gifts I wanted to give Aria were destroyed all over the floor. I cleaned up the mess but I should've known she would never fall in love with me after all I would never have a chance with her," Sonata whimpered. Adagio frowned and goes over to Sonata and gives her a hug. Sonata cries into Adagio's shoulder and both girls heard another yawn and Sonata quickly wipes her tears. Aria comes into the kitchen and see's Adagio making coffee and Sonata making her own breakfast. Aria grumbles at the blue girl and sit's at the table. Sonata made herself a bowl of cereal and quietly ate without speaking to Aria nor Adagio. Adagio glared at Aria and sits next to her while Sonata continues eating.
"Aria I'm very disappointed in your behavior last night," Adagio said in a harsh tone. Aria rolled her eyes and grumbled what ever before getting up and getting her some breakfast. She looked over at Sonata who is wearing different clothes and a new hair style. Aria would've been lying if she didn't think she was pretty, but she wasn't going to fall for her. Sonata got up and put her bowl in the dish washer along with her spoon and left to the bathroom to brush her teeth.
"What's up with Sonata any way?" Aria asked indifferently. Adagio gave Aria a look of shock then annoyance.
"Really?! She's heart broken Aria! That girl has been in love with you for years! And you told her she caused your life hell! Then you break all of her presents that she bought and paid for with her money! And then you have the nerve to ask 'What's up with her?'" Adagio screamed, Sonata stops hearing their conversation.
"Oh please who could love her? She's worthless! She can't do anything right! She just sits there acting all innocent, no Adagio I had it I want her out of here tonight!" Aria growled.
"WHAT?! Heck no! I'm not throwing Sonata out! She is like a sister to me! And just because you're having issues doesn't mean I'm going to throw her out in the cold!" Adagio growled slamming her fist onto the table. While Sonata had tears in her eyes even more broken than before. Sonata walks back into the kitchen and puts a hand on Adagio's shoulder.
"No, if Ari- Aria wants me to leave. Then I will leave," Sonata said while Adagio is flabbergasted.
"What?! Where would you go Sonata?" Adagio asks holding back tears.
"I don't know, maybe either Sunset's house or Pinkie's." Adagio put a hand on Sonata's shoulder and sighs.
"Go to Sunny's house I've been dating her and it would give me some peace of mind." Sonata nodded and walked out the door to go to school. Adagio turns to Aria with a glare.
"You're not getting off the hook for this! You're going to either apologize to Sonata or I will personally make your life a living hell," Adagio growled and Aria laughs.
"Oh please Sonata made my life a living hell," Aria chuckled, but soon stopped as Adagio raised out of her seat by grabbing the neck of her shirt.
"Oh trust me I'll be worse!" Adagio growled while Aria whimpered.
Sonata arrived at school. The Rainbooms as usual waited for her. Sunset Shimmer had a worried look on her face when she saw tears running down.
"Sonata?" Sunset asked, the others turned around and gasped when they saw Sonata Dusk crying her heart out. Pinkie Pie was the first to tackle Sonata in a hug.
"What happened? Why are you crying? Who do I need to insult with cake?" Pinkie Pie wondered and Sonata hugs Pinkie still crying. Sunset sighed and taps Pinkie's shoulder.
"I know what happened. Adagio told me that Aria rejected Sonata's affection in the worst of way." Sonata looks up at Sunset and brought out the broken pieces of jewelry. The others gasped while Rarity's and Sunset Shimmer's faces turned red from rage.
"All that hard work! Ruined!" Rarity said in blistering rage. Sonata chocked up sobs while Rainbow Dash goes over and hugs Sonata trying to ease her.
"Hey it's going to be okay," Rainbow Dash said trying to give her friend hope.
"No it won't Aria doesn't want me there. Adagio tried to fight to get me to stay but I told her that it would be for the best."
"What on earth would make you think that?!" Rarity asked in shock.
"Aria told me last night that I cause her hell in her life." Pinkie Pie's face fell and she hugs Sonata with worry while the others were angry at Aria for saying such a thing.
"Okay am I the only one that thinks Aria is a rattle snake?" Apple Jack asks. Sunset didn't say anything but was busy texting Adagio letting her know how angry she was at Aria.
"Adagio, I'm so pissed at Aria!"
"I know so am I! I told her to apologize to Sonata or I'll make her life hell!"
"It probably won't work, it seems Sonata made up her mind."
"Yeah, please keep Sonata safe." Sunset read Adagio's reply and nodded. She knew that Sonata was important to Adagio and she wouldn't let anything happen to her.
The school day for Sonata was certainly slow. While she did manage to keep up with up with her classes she still couldn't stop thinking about the heartache and the pain in her chest. The light blue haired siren sat with her friends but didn't interject in any conversations nor did she eat her food. Although it was left over taco's from the previous day she still didn't touch it, she didn't feel like eating. So while she was there she started on doing her assignments early. While her two companions thought there was no need for school since being alive for thousands of years, she thought education was important. While the cyan young girl may appear ditsy, she was anything but. Sonata hid her knowledge by crafting a mask so her companions wouldn't rely on her for idea's or input. She hated being under the spotlight and also being in charge, but when it came to her own life she wanted to take charge. But if I didn't hide behind this mask Aria probably would treat me with more respect than what she does , she thought bitterly to herself.She didn't even touch her food, Sunset thought with a sigh.
It was after school everyone was returning home to do their homework, hang out with their friends, or got to work. Sonata Dusk however, was about to head back to her old home and get everything packed up before heading to Sunset's. The fear of seeing Aria their plauged her mind, but she pushed those thoughts away. She couldn't keep running away from her problems she would march into the house and not pay attention to her and get her stuff then leave. Although it sounded easier than it being done, she was plum nervous that even her stomach started to act up to her stress. Sonata walked to the direction of her home when she felt a hand touch her shoulder and Sonata jumped an inch and looked behind her to see Sunset's worried glance.
