Hypnos and Thanatos are a pair of identical twins who were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Specifically, they were in New York City when Alex Mercer decided it was time to wipe out humanity with the Blacklight virus. Having survived direct infection by Mercer himself, they now serve him as two of his Evolved soldiers, controlled by oppression and fear.

They do, however, still have free will, and have planned and are carrying out a foolproof way to both guarantee freedom from their tyrant and exact revenge. But mid-execution, a magical anomaly teleports them into the heart of the Everfree forest. Now the twin brothers have a choice between assimilating peacefully into the population of colorful quadrupeds or finding a way back to pursue their original goal of taking revenge on Mercer, using them as a means. As Evolved, only the latter is even considered.

Friendship can reconcile even the most malevolent nature, but can an Evolved be anything besides a murderer and psychopath?
