Chapter 7:"You don't know how to fly?!"
We where reaching the main entrance to the castle when I broke the silence, "Thanks for letting me continue to stay with you." I said, turning to look at Twilight while we continued our trip back to the front door.
"Don't mention it, really, it's what friends do for friends." She said smiling back at me, "I hope Princess Luna is ok." The happiness of our conversation didn't last long, as she brought up the topic I had hopped to avoid.
"I'm sure she's doing ok, it's not easy dealing with that kind of stuff, but she has her friends, she has her sister, she has people who can help her." I said, trying to lighten the mood, "Besides, jerks will be jerks, it took me a while to get that, but I think I've got it now." That was a small lie as I hadn’t really gotten over dealing with jerks as I said.
"I suppose you are right, I think she'll be ok in the end." Twilight seemed to be only slightly confident in her answer, maybe she was worried about her turning back into Nightmare Moon, I couldn't really tell but that was my best guess.
The rest of the walk was silent, I didn't like it, but it did give me time to appreciate the architecture of the castle, it was such and elegant sight to behold, less complex then that of a gothic era cathedral, but far more beautiful then a modern building. We reached the entrance, where one of the guards led us back to the entrance to the grounds.
"Princess." The guard announced bowing to Twilight as we stood on the other side of the archway to the grounds. She bowed back as did I. Once we stood we turned and began our journey back to the train station. But, as we did there was a rather loud roaring sound up in the sky. Out from behind some clouds flew Rainbow dash, who was flying down towards where we stood. She landed a few moments later kicking up some of the dust on the ground as she did.
“Hey Twilight.” She said, standing up from her landing stance, she was quite a sight to behold in person, the cyan mare was slightly shorter then Twilight, but not by much, her wings where of a different shape then mine or Twilight’s. Her mane was messy, but it still maintained its color gradient even though it was rather tangled looking in spots.
“Hello Rainbow, what’s up?” She said.
“Oh, Rarity asked me to go find you. She’s been looking for you, she said she has somethings she wants to show us.” Rainbow said before taking a look over in my direction, “Who’s your new friend?”
“Oh, right, Rainbow Dash, this is Thunder Dash, Thunder Dash, this is Rainbow Dash.” She said with a smile.
“Hey.” I said, I couldn’t really think of anything else to say.
“Hey, so where you from?” She asked.
“Cloudsdale.” I blurted out the first place that came to mind.
“Hmm, ok.” She was looking me over as if I was under inspection for some crime, maybe she didn’t buy it.
“Ok.” She took the pressure of and turned back to Twilight, “Let’s go Rarity’s waiting for us.” The two of them started to take off.
“Wait.” I said, before they got too high off the ground, the two landed and turned to me, “Twilight wouldn’t it be better if we just teleported, I can’t fly remember.”
“Wait, what?! You, can’t, fly?!” Rainbow Dash said, surprised her jaw left hanging open.
“Heh, yeah I never really learned how.” Please buy it, please buy it, I wasn’t sure if I had to keep my reason for being here a secret, but I felt it would be best if I did.
“Ok…Sounds a little strange for someone living in Cloudsdale, but hey.” Rainbow Dash said, “You want to at least try it?”
“Rainbow, I can easily teleport him.” Twilight said.
“Nah, Twilight I think I can pick it back up quickly enough.” What was I saying, I turned to Rainbow, “Yes, I’ll try it.”
“How long will this take Rainbow? We have to catch the train back.” Twilight said, looking flustered with the cyan mare.
“Oh, it won’t take that long, maybe an hour.” Rainbow said, winking at Twilight.
“Alright, now, first thing you have to do is close your eyes.” Rainbow said, turning back to me.
I closed them as she instructed.
“Now, wings out and up.”
I did as she instructed, my wings moving like I’d done this before, wait, when had I ever done this before?
“Now, jump up and push your wings down, that’ll get you up into the air, then start flapping.” She said, I could here her and Twilight walking back a bit.
I waited till they stopped and jumped as high as I could while pushing my wings back down, lifting me up. “Like that?” I asked, my eyes still closed.
“I thought you said you couldn’t fly?” Rainbow’s voice sounded very far away, like really far, on top of that, this flapping felt instinctual, when had I done this, it felt like I’d done this before.
“What?”
“Open your eyes Thunder!” I could hear Twilight yell.
I opened them, “Holy!” I exclaimed, I was at least 20 feet in the air, I could see the tops of some of the taller buildings.
“You know how to get down?” Rainbow asked
I looked to where they were, should not have done that, “Ha, no, no I don’t.” At least I didn’t know exactly how, but my body seemed to know how to do it when I told it to.
“Just flap less, you’ll get closer to the ground as you do.” She yelled up to me.
I did just that, slowly but surely, I slowed down my flaps and slowly reached the ground before finally landing back onto the brick streets of Canterlot. Rainbow came over and hoof bumped me in the shoulder, “Thought you said you couldn’t fly.” She stated, giving me a bit of an odd look. I had to think up something on the spot.
“I thought I couldn’t, last time I flew was a while back, haven’t done it in a few years.” To be honest I wasn’t sure if I was lying, or what at that point, it certainly didn’t feel foreign to me I mean hell, I flew 20 feet into the air with my eyes closed.
“Heh, well, you want to try some other things?” She asked, Twilight just huffed in frustration in the background.
"I don't know, you guys should get to Rarity's, I don't want to keep you." I say, folding my wings back, not wanting to upset Twilight by making her wait.
"Aw, come on, it won't take that long, besides she want's us there in an hour." Dash replied.
"Dash, it'll take us an hour to get back at least." Twilight, said throwing her hoof into the air before face hoofing herself.
"You know you could just teleport, or fly there?" Dash remarked.
"No, no we can't, Thunder has never teleported, he could be sick for a week if he's not used to it!" She said, stamping her hoof in the ground, just then the train whistle could be heard in the distance. "And we missed the train."
"I think I'll be fine, to be honest, I don't get sick that often due to motion, I think I'll be fine." I say, winking at her, she relaxed a little, but was still concerned that they would be late.
"You sure? I wouldn't want you to be cooped up in a room for a week because teleportation doesn't agree with you." She said, her eyebrow raised.
I walked towards her, "Yes I'm sure, besides, if it happens it happens there's no way to know what'll happen to me unless I do it."
"Well, if you feel up to it, I guess we can try." She said, walking back towards me, "Just, don't complain if you end up being in bed for a week."
"Heh, I won't, I promise." I smirk, hoping I could even make this promise, but I might as well get it over with now if it happens.
"Alright, stand next to me and I'll put my wing over your back, we have to be touching so that the spell works correctly." She said, motioning me to stand beside her
I walked over to her, standing as close as I could get to her without bumping into her. Once next to her she placed her wing over my back and her horn began to glow.
“See you there Twi.” Rainbow said, waving her hoof and taking off back into the sky.
Within a few seconds Twilights horn shot out a pulse of light, the world around us fell away twisting and turning in front of my eyes, I quickly shut my eyes wanting this to end as soon as it began. Then, there was nothing, I opened my eyes and saw we where now in front of what I could only assume was carousel boutique, my eyes where to unfocused to quite make it out.
“You ok Thunder?” Twilight had moved in front of me while I was dazed, I shook my head, my vision clearing back to how it was before the teleportation. I felt a little queasy once my vision had cleared, focusing on anything made me feel like I had been spinning in circles for a while and my body hadn’t caught up with my now stationary position.
“Y-yeah, I think I’m fine.” I said, my vision still trying to reset itself, finally the spinning feeling stopping and my vision cleared. I could see the boutique in front of me, Twilight standing beside me looking me up and down to make sure that I was ok.
“Can you see me?” She asks, waving her hoof in front of my face.
“Yes Twilight, I can see your hoof.” I said, tracking her hoof’s movement with my eyes.
“Oh good, I was worried you’d gotten unlucky and would be bed ridden for weeks or blind.” She said with a smile, putting her hoof back down onto the ground.
“Wait, I could have gone blind? Why didn’t you tell me that?!” I sat, frustrated that she didn’t tell me that I could have lost my sight by doing that.
“There was a very small percentage chance that it would have happened. I’ve only ever heard of it happening once.” She awkwardly chuckles at the realisation that she should have probably told him about that fact before they teleported. “But, your fine and not sick after your first trip.”
“That is true, I didn’t get sick for my first time. I would have hated to left that kind of a first impression on your friends.” He said, giving his own awkward chuckle.
“They would have been fine with it in all honesty, some ponies just can’t handle teleportation very well.” She said, before motioning me to follow her to the door of the rather large building that was Carousel Boutique. “Now come on, they’re all waiting.”
“Heh, right behind you.” I say, before catching up to walk beside her as we approached the Boutique.
Deep within the science facility back on Earth….
In a hallway deep within the facility…
The two had been walking for a while, they had walked for a good 20 minutes down several hallways. "Ah Richard, remember the good old days when we used to work together. This'll be just like that I swear." Issac said, breaking the silence of their walk down the corridor.
"Issac, the good old days did not contain you having a gun strapped to your hip." Richard said.
"That is true, but come on, I'm not going to use it on you as long as you don't step out of line. Which shouldn't be a problem considering our goals align. I just want to go about it a little differently." He said, pointing towards a door that was nearing, "In there, that's where you'll see what I'm planning and trust me, you'll like what I have in mind." Once the two of them get close to the door, Richard begins to read the plaque placed on the door, and he understands Issac's plan almost immediately.
"No, no this is not how you're going to do this. NO!" Richard says, the words setting in his head.
"Heh, yes we are Richard, we are doing this," He puts his hand on his holster, "Unless you want to end up as the next corpse for the bio research team."
"Alright, alright I will," He said, putting his hands up again like he did before coaxing Issac to remove his hand from the gun.
“Good, now,” He opened the door to the room, waving Richard in with his hand, “After you.” Richard did as he was told, he walked through the door. Issac released his hold on the door and followed him in. Upon the door read the label, Lab 3: Genetic Mutation.
