War.

War never changes.

Or so the saying goes. With war comes the ridiculously numerous unneeded deaths, of those in service, and those who thought their fragile walls would keep them safe. Drafts into service, rationing of goods, a crippling of a population...

The good news is, the war is over.

The bad news is what was left behind.

A deadly expanse of scarred terrain: once the seat of power for the two princesses, now it only serves as a grim reminder of why gods shouldn't have conflicts of interest.

And so, the Wall was built, surrounding the ruins of the castle, the cursed forest, and the nearby territory, as well as expanding to the east and west to sever the country in two. The Wall served three purposes: it was a constant geological and political border between the Solar Republic and the Lunar Empire; it contained the monsters lurking within the territory known as the Wastes; and lastly, the Wall served as an exile of sorts for those of both countries, sending it's unneeded, unwanted souls to protect the Empire and Republic from the horrors held within.

And so, our story begins...

Twilight Sparkle was not having a very good day.

Some might point out that her morning meal had had a disturbing lack of her usual tea. Others might point to the jolting carriage ride across the unpaved dirt road. Though most could agree that having a winged monstrosity grab hold of said carriage and take it on a jolly old spin would definitely promote the idea that Ms. Sparkle was having a less than ideal day.

That, and her hysterical screaming.

"IT'S GOING TO EAT ME! OH, SWEET CELESTIA, SOMEPONY GET ME DOWN!"

Ah, yes, our intrepid hero.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

Hmmmm. Indeed.
