Several years after the events of Canterlot Wedding the changeling swarm makes a second attempt to take Canterlot. This time there is no warning of the attack, and with Shining Armor in the crystal empire there is nopony who can generate a defensive shield to defend the city. The hive's spies in the city have allowed the hive to catch Canterlot's defences off guard by attacking while Celestia is on a diplomatic mission to Griffonstone.

The conflict is restrained by an unwillingness for either side to provoke the other, until it appears that Canterlot will fall, and with it, Equestria. The deputy captain of the Royal guard is forced to make the decision of allowing victory to the changelings or escalating the conflict to levels of terror and destruction never seen for a millenium. He chooses the latter.

This story follows the adventures of a medic of the royal guard as the war erupts around him, and that of the changeling prisoner he becomes responsible for.

Currently on hiatus. I'm planning on completely rewriting the first chapter and making more minor changes to the other two chapters.

The tags which are not yet relevant (sex, celestia) have been removed and will be put back in when their chapters are added.

Thanks for all the favourites, but it would really help if you told me what you do and don't like about this fic. Because I've not written one before I'm effectively going in blind, and it's hard for me to work out what things I should keep the same and which I should change and improve - it's a lot harder to judge your own fic than it is someone else's.
