To Inspire

The crowd roared and cheered, filling the world with noise. In the streets ponies could be seen dancing and cheering, celebrating life at it’s fullest. In the streets of Canterlot the world was an explosion of the senses. The world pulsed with a mass of bodies and the sun beat down on the celebrations. Cheering, yelling, screaming, and crying assaulted the ears of everypony there. Along with the roar of the crowd the softer drone of life filled in the gaps. The clopping of hooves, the tweeting of birds, and the laughter and voices of the less rambunctious ponies buzzed in the background Random bouts of singing and spontaneous soliloquies could just barely be made out in the twisted melody of a large crowd of ponies. It was chaos at it’s finest strung together with the harmony of friendship. It was an accomplishment of anarchy and kinship that only ponies could accomplish.

To a foal cantering through the streets, it was a wonder to behold. Star Burst was usually a serious foal, but today the excitement of others was tangible. It could be forgiven if she wasn’t the most mature filly in the room today. She just couldn’t believe what happened! There was now a fourth alicorn! Another princess to look up to, and the Twilight Sparkle at that! Star Burst couldn’t believe it.Twilight Sparkle had always been an inspiration to the blue roan filly. Star Burst never had many friends. The other colts and fillies thought she was strange or a kill joy. They believed that just because she didn’t see the merit of destroying everything in sight that meant she couldn’t have any fun. There was no in between with these foals. Either you were fun or you weren’t, and that was that.

For this reason, Star Burst saw Twilight Sparkle as a true inspiration. Not only did she start out with few friends as well, but she ended up with friendships strong enough to literally destroy evil. Twilight Sparkle and the other Elements of Harmony had saved the world so many times just by being friends. To an impressionable young unicorn filly that was a bit of a social outcast, she was a gift from Celestia.

The young unicorn cantered through the streets trying to see the newest princess. She knew it was wrong to leave her mother's side, but when she heard that Princess Twilight was walking down the street, she had to take a look. She ran as fast as her hooves could carry her as she dodged through the sea of bodies. She was almost stepped on by many a parting pony as she ran underhoof. Her golden forelock kept falling into her moonstone blue eyes, causing her to flick her ears in agitation. A pale gold aura surrounded her stub of a horn and quickly fell back into place. Her forelock was strange as it had three main chunks that fell down onto the front, left, and right side of her face respectively, but then had two cowlicks that stood up between her ears. The rest of her mane fell flat on both sides of her neck and in a flamboyant mess of colors angled away from her head. It started out a metallic silvery white. The shiney silver white continued downward, but beneath it were all the colors of the rainbow. It finally trailed off to deep black with muted yellow strands mixed in.

Star Burst was incredibly fond of her mane, but sometimes she wished she could look more normal. Her tail was the same as her mane, minus the forelock. Maybe, though, if she looked more normal, the other kids would like her more. Even so, Star Burst knew it didn’t matter in the long run. She had tried changing herself once, but it just left her feeling so… empty. She ditched the change, which didn’t even make her any friends anyway, and hasn’t done anything like that since. That failure still didn't keep her from wishing though. Right now she just wished that her stupid forelock didn’t impede on the important things, like sight. It was really bothering her now as she had to see the princess, and the blasted thing kept slowing her down. Star Burst continued her mad dash through the crowd until she heard singing. She looked ahead and could just make out a gap in the sea of ponies.

Star Burst forged ahead with new invigoration, determined to see the princess. She almost lost herself to the herd mentality to sing along, but shook herself out of it and finally made it to the edge. Finally, she would see Princess Twilight Sparkle, her idol. The mare she aspired to be. She burst through the was of legs and caught her first glimpse of the new princess.

She was so… normal. Normal? Star Burst tried to reconcile the extraordinary mare of legend that saved everypony and who was her hero for so long with the alicorn before her. Yet, if it wasn’t for the clothing and the crown, as well as the wings and horn, she could have sworn it was just another mare in the crowd.

Star Burst waited for her world to shatter. She waited for the depression that came from disappointment at this level. Not only was she friendless and a twelve year old blank flank, but her idol was in truth nothing really special at all. It never came. She thought about all that inspired her about Twilight Sparkle as her hero passed by where she was standing in the crowd, and realized she was okay with normal. She was never impressed by grand feats of heroism that the mare had basically coined, but by the friends she made. Star Burst gazed at the Elements of Harmony as the continued through the parade, and was… relived. They weren’t larger than life legends of times long past. They were just a group of friends. A group of friends who wielded some very powerful rocks, but a group of friends none the less.

What made Princess Twilight so special was that she reached her full potential. She became all that she could be and that changed her. It changed her for the better to. By becoming a princess she could lead by example. She could show others that they could do things, and important things. Star Burst thought about a life like that. A life were a pony changed for the better, and helped others change for the better as well. A pony who guided those she met to reach their full potential, and helped them become the best they can be. It made Star Burst feel… whole. She felt her entire being warm at the idea. A small flash went unnoticed by the crowd. Star Burst would soon discover that she was no longer a blank flank. She now had a cutie make of a dozen or so multi-colored stars spreading out from one center star, with magical twinkles in the background. Star Burst calmly turned around and started to slowly trot towards her mother. She was ready to live her life. She was ready to inspire.
