Liaison
Prelude: Fine Print
Load Full StoryToday was like any other day for Princess Celestia. She had spent most of the day on her throne, dealing with petty issues, the day to day operations of ruling Equestria, and small disputes that seemed to never end. The work was tedious and difficult, but it gave her hope that dealing with the little things could prevent the big things from taking form. From that philosophy she acquired, Equestria will probably be at peace for many years to come she assured herself confidently. Even with the assurance that there may be peace, the nagging voice from the back of her mind never squanders a chance to remind her that she couldn't rest on our laurels, and that some of the biggest problems can not be seen, or even detected until it is too late to stop it.
As she walked up the steps to her private quarters alone, her mind kept thinking of him. He came to her months ago, a creature she had heard of in myths and old mare tales but would never for the immortal life of her would ever see for herself. He called himself simply as "King Joshua" and claimed to be a ruler of the distant world. He also claimed that he can protect her kingdom. She knew the stories of decades past, of his kingdom, of these "humans" or whatever they called themselves these days. He lead his army, his creatures, into battle and to victory in her world with no magic or powers. He explained once when they first met: "where we hail from, there is no magic, there is no powers of the supernatural. There is only technology, there's only science. You don't achieve things by using spells, incantations, or relying on things like spirits, but by using the mind to create a solution and using tools that are given to you, you can go a long way in life".
The second she entered her private quarters, her instincts alarmed her that she was not alone, and as the sheer coincidence: he was there. Even now it was still hard to admit, this creature...those creatures are odd looking. They didn't stand on four legs, but two. There are plenty of creatures in Equestria stood on two legs for a short time, but these and the Minotaur were the only ones she knew that was exclusively two legged. They didn't have fur, and depending on the individual creature, their skin color was either a pale white or a really dark brown, with their hair as unique as the individual. What was more astonishing was the creature's lust for war; or as the king that now stood before said once: "We're also a creature of war, a creature of violence, a creature of great evil. As you have seen in the past years we can be pretty violent, and hopefully war will end at least in this world. As for my world... World Peace is but a pipe dream".
"Ah Celestia, you are looking as beautiful as ever tonight" The King said as he helped himself to the princess's private collection of Apple Cider. "It's been too long" she replied with a smile and noticed the human fill a second glass filled with the Cider, obviously meant for her. The Human felt an invisible tug on the glass and against his better judgement he simply let go. He was still astonished on how that glass, with nothing holding it in place, is still in the air and not falling due to gravity. The creature seen plenty of remarkable things in this world, but it all still astonished him as if it was the first time seeing it. The glass started levitating slowly to the Alicorn Princess as he still was lost in the gaze of a floating glass, but he quickly collected himself and spoke: "Although I'd love to stay and chat with you, I am not here for pleasure, i'm here for business". "What kind of business" the princess replied. "The kind of business were I say congratulations, your prohibition period for ASAN is over, and you and your nation can call now yourself official members. The princess and the king both had massive smiles on their faces, knowing now that Equestria had the backing of a superpower of not only her world, but his and that can only lead to one thing: peace.
"But before we celebrate this good news with a drink, I believe i have to remind you of article three; section seven of the ASAN charter". She had a unsure look on her face and he immediately read it: "I know, the fine print of the charter is not at all exiting, but it just says that you must house and accommodate a liaison between my country, other member nations in the partnership, and yours. Although i will be the one that gets to ultimately appoint the person, I will assure you I will give you the best person I know. In fact after I leave your palace and your world I will offer the person the job, and believe me this will definitely say yes, if not i wont give him a chance at all". He said with a small chuckle. She replied while having the same smile that she had since given the best news she had all day: " i cannot wait to meet my liaison, but are you sure you can trust him with a task like this?" he looked to the sky for a thought for before replying "i trust this man with my life, in fact he's got a little bit more saving tomorrow tonight, you probably will not get what that means but rest assured, he is one of the best i have" as he started to make his way out of her quarters. As he left he placed the small glass on a table next to the door, turned around and said "peace be with you, Princess Celestia", and simply walked out.
