The birds were singing a symphony of calls to one another and the flowers blossomed, yes, today was a beautiful day, Fluttershy thought, but it was missing something,her beaming smile faded to a frown when she thought about it. That something was what her friends had but she hadn't, a coltfriend. Yes, she was he kind of pony that would faint before asking anypony out, so that was stopping her.Even though she had her friends and animals, lately she had felt lonely. Her friends took notice when she wouldn't talk at all when they were together and also that she skipped out on hanging out with them a few times. Concerned, Twilight set off for Fluttershy's cottage to find out what the matter was. Three raps were made at the door as the bashful yellow mare answered. "H-hi, Twilight, did you come to ask me if I wanted to hang out? I don't feel like it right now." "Hi, Fluttershy, I didn't come here for that. Lately, it seems like you've been avoiding us, what's wrong?" "I'm sorry, it's just that I've been depressed lately." "Don't be sorry, what's been getting you down," Twilight asked, patting her back. "Well it's that all my friends are in a relationship, except for me, I've been jealous of you guys and I'm feeling lonely, nothing, not even my animals could cheer me up. I'm afraid that I'm going to die alone, I don't want to!" "Fluttershy, don't say that, you're a great pony and you're going to make a stallion very happy one day. It just takes time to find them, that's the hardest part." "T-thanks, but that's what anypony would say. I'm never going to find anypony," she cried, tears blurring her vision. "You are and whether you like it or not, I'm going to help you, I can't bear to see my friend like this." "R-really, you'd do that?" "Of course, what are friends for?" The two set off to Sweet Apple Acres to try to get them and Mac together. Soarin sighed as he sat alone at the crowded bar, luckily for him, nopony recognized him out of his flight suit. Sure, he enjoyed being held up as an idol for many, but he wasn't quite fond of the barrage of fan fillies swarming him after a show. The bartender walked over to him, noticing his sad expression. "Hey there, superstar, what's been getting you down? Is there anything I can get you to calm your woes?" "I'll have some Cloud Nine, please. Anyways, most ponies think I have the perfect life: I have fame, fortune, I am a five time MVP and fillies faint at my presence. The thing is, though, that couldn't be further from the truth, yes the fame and fortune are fine but the problem is that I've been feeling lonely." "A superstar like you lonely, that's absurd! You have masses of super obsessed mares following you around and you tell me that you're lonely!" "That's the thing, they only want me for my fame and fortune. Every time I've tried to date them, they brag to their friends about me. I want somepony to want me for me." "That's respectable,most stallions these days are in it for the ride, you're different, it's a shame that there aren't many ponies like you anymore. I can't help you with your problem but let me tell you that you're going to make some mare very happy someday." "Thanks," Soarin said after finishing his drink, he then took off for his favorite place to get pie. The pair of mares arrived at the farmhouse, three knocks were made before a familiar orange cowpony greeted them. "Howdy!" "Hey, Applejack, is your brother around?" "Why no, he went off with Cheerilee on a date." "Oh," Fluttershy said dejectedly. "Ah'd a thought you'd be happy for him, why arn-, oh," Applejack said, realizing what was going on," ah am sorry, you'll find somepony else." "Yeah, you're right." "Hey," came a male voice. "Howdy, Soarin, here for some pie?" "You know me too well!" "I figured that you was comin' round here, here you go," she said handing over the fresh apple pie, she was surprised by his sad look, she knew this always cheered him up when he was down but the pie only elicited a neutral expression." Hey what's up with you, pie always cheers you up and all I get is a half smile." "It's just that I've been a bit depressed lately since I'm the only Wonderbolt that doesn't have a special somepony. I mean, I could get one without trying but the thing is that all they want is my fame and fortune, not me. It's been eating at me for the longest time, I considered quitting the Bolts so I can finally find somepony." "Don't do that-,"Applejack advised before getting cut off by Soarin before she could explain further. "What's the point, I love doing what I do but what's the point if I can't find somepony?" "Actually, I found a solution to your problems." "What do you mean, mares only want me for what I have, not for me." "Actually that might not be true, you see, my friend has been having similar issues and I think you'd make a cute couple." Fluttershy fainted at Applejack's intentions, she wasn't ready for this so suddenly, a concerned look was gazing at her as she awoke. "Are you okay?" "Y-yeah, I just get nervous about these kind of things, as you can tell, I’m quite shy.” “Yeah, I can tell, so, are you free tonight?” “Yes, where and when?” “How about Sugarcube Corner at five?” “Sounds great!” The two left after that, for once instead of feeling sadness, they were filled with joy. Soarin rushed to his house to get ready as Fluttershy did likewise. After they readied themselves they headed to Sugarcube Corner. Soarin was first to arrive, he perused the tables for his date but she was nowhere in sight. I must be early,he thought. He sat at the table patiently for a few minutes until his date finally arrived, if he was a classic cartoon, his jaw would have hit the floor, she looked stunning. Her green dress was adorned with vines and flowers that complemented the gorgeous mare. “wow-,” he said, speechless for a time,” you look incredible! I wouldn’t be surprised if you were a model, I’m one lucky stallion.” “Thank you, I actually was one for a time, you know, you look quite handsome yourself, I’m lucky to have such a muscular stallion to protect me.” “Thanks, so,” he said, blushing, he couldn’t stop staring at what sat in front of him,” how have you been?” “Great, sorry I was a little late, I had to take care of one of my sick animals.” “It’s okay, I understand. So tell me about yourself.” “Well I like to take care of animals and I’m not that good at flying, not much more to me, really. So tell me about yourself, Mr.Wonderbolt." "Well I love to fly, I'm sure that's quite obvious, I love pie, my favorite is apple. I enjoy cooking and taking strolls in the forest, that's about it." The two finished eating, to their surprise, sensual music permeated throughout the restaurant. "So," Soarin asked,blushing," c-could I have this dance?" "S-sure," she said nervously, blushing as well. Soarin wrapped his forelegs around her shoulders and they swayed passionately to the music. They glared into each other's eyes, fiery passion consuming them. Soarin went in for a kiss and Fluttershy made a surprised "eep" as he pressed his lips to her own. Their tongues fought amorously and vigorously in the heat of passion, they parted, gasping for air with a spittle forming between them. "That was amazing, how did you learn to kiss that well?" Fluttershy blushed profusely, her knees quivered at what she was about to say,"D-dashie and I-." "What," he asked, his usual look of cluelessness was splayed on his face, then blushed equally as her date when he realized what she was going to say,"oooh." "It's not like that, we only did it for practice,"'she said, a look of horror was on her face. Soarin put his hoof on his date's shoulder," hey it's okay, I don't care if you like mares too, as long as you're with me, I'm fine." "Thanks, you're a great coltfriend, though I'm not into mares." "Ok, I understand," said Soarin, he looked outside to see that Celestia's sun was resting on the horizon,"hey, it's getting a bit late, should I walk you home?" "Oh, thanks," Fluttershy replied blushing,"wow, such a gentlecolt!" "Anything for a lovely mare such as you," Soarin exclaimed, pecking on her cheek. "Oh you, but could we do one thing before we end our date?" "Sure, what do you want to do?" "I thought we could go to the top of a hill and cuddle while we watch the sunset." "I like the way you think," Soarin agreed with a gentle, loving smile. The two sat atop a hill not too far from Sugar Cube Corner and talked to each other about their lives and occasionally whispered sweet nothings to each other. The sun was about to disappear from the late evening sky and the more they talked, the more passion Soarin had for Fluttershy, he finally found it difficult to not stare into her eyes lovingly and felt like it was the perfect time to tell her. "Fluttershy?" "Yeah Soar?" "That's cute, I like it, well Flutters, I know that we've only known each other for a day, but the more I talk with you the more passion I feel for you, Fluttershy...I-I think I love you." Fluttershy gave a drunken looking smile and replied,"I'm glad you said that. I feel the same, I however, never had the courage to tell you, but now that you've said it, I...I love you too." Soarin looked to the now night sky and said,"I guess I need to give you that walk I promised." "With pleasure," she chirped and Soarin extended his fore leg to Fluttershy and wrapped it around her back. "Let's go." The two reached Fluttershy's cottage and before Fluttershy entered she turned to Soarin and gave him a passionate kiss. "Thank you, for everything, you've made me the happiest mare and I'm not saying that because you're a world renowned athlete." "Thanks, but it should be you who I should thank.I thought I couldn't ever find a mare who wanted me for me and that I would have to quit my job, I'd be devastated since I love my job, but I'd never be happy, no matter how many awards I have knowing that I'm alone." "I guess we should thank each other for making us happy as well as for our friends who set us up." "Yes, I guess you're right," he agreed, he Prench kissed her and after pulling away noticed a drop falling from between Fluttershy's hind legs and blushed profusely. Fluttershy saw that he took notice and blushed harder. "O-oh I-I'm sorry, this is awkward," she stuttered, embarrassed. "It's okay, in fact I'm flattered that I could excite you that much. I don't think we're ready for that quite yet." "Good, most stallions would pounce on me without asking, you're different, the more we are together, the more I fall in love with you." "I agree, good night, see you in my dreams," Soarin said winking, Fluttershy blushed at that and closed the door as Soarin flew towards the barracks. When he was inside, he was greeted by his captain, who noticed the more goofy than usual smile on his face. "Hey, Soarin,what's got you so happy?" Soarin sighed in the way one would about a crush," I can't believe it, but I finally met a mare that loves me for me," he said jubilantly," and to think I was about to quit my job. This is truly the happiest day of my life thus far." "Wow, Soarin, congratulations! You know what, you deserve a day to celebrate, bring your marefriend and I'll meet her over a drink at Cloud Nine, your favorite," she adds happily," but you were going to quit, why?Do you know how sad that would make me if you left, I'd be devastated I'd have to quit myself so I could see you since I'm so busy and then what about the other team mates when they lose their two most cherished members?" "I would do it so that I can rid myself of this curse of mares only wanting me for my fame and money, I'd disappear and nopony would even expect that I was once one of Equestria's most famous celebrities, I wouldn't be Soarin of the Wonderbolts anymore, I'd just be normal Soarin, where a mare would love me for me and nothing else. I know it sounds selfish, abandoning my teammates like I never cared about them,but I need to do what's best for me and no award no matter how prestigious the award is,is going to change that and you know that."
