Beginnings Are A Means To An End
I feel a small breeze tickle my ear, making it twitch. This, this was the first thing I felt in how ever long I have been in this pitch black darkness. When I "woke up" the darkness was there to greet me and it stayed with me forever, up until now. This breeze was the best thing ever for I never felt anything like it. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it! but that's all I ever felt just a small breeze every now and then. Then there was a time were the breeze just wouldn't stop it kept blowing, Cold and soft that is what it felt like. Whoosh was the first sound I heard, I think it was the sound of the breeze but now that I think more into it, looking deep in my mind I think that this is a wind, a very strong wind. This wind would not stop blowing and from the sound of it, the wind was getting faster and stronger, colder, harder.
I wish I had a sense of time though because if I did the cold wind must have lasted a very long time. Still long after the hash wind I felt something piled on me, pushing me down. The weight on me increased as if it were falling on me constantly. This was just as good as the nonstop breeze that came before, all these feelings and sensations are new to me and ever sense I have "woken up" I only see darkness and felt nothing, but now I'm feeling things but why am I feeling things now but not before.
When I was first awoken I saw the darkness and the darkness was awake too. My first words ever spoken were, "Where am I", followed by, "Who am I". After that guess what happened...The darkness answered back and said.
"You are Dementia", the darkness voice was all raspy like if he was struggling to talk, and was very deep. "And you are made from insanity and insanity is you. You were bath in it, bred by it, made to spread it, so do what you were born to do", After the Darkness stop talking he never talked a again, but I had so many questions for him, it, her, whatever the Darkness was I never heard from him again. Was Dementia really my name and if it is then why is it my name, what does it mean. I pondered these questions for most of my time in the darkness, then I got bored of thinking why so I just stop think of it and began to think of ways to get out of this darkness. I mean this darkness was to much, imagine closing your eyes and the darkness you see, is the darkness I see the only difference is that you can open your eye. For me my eyes are shut, unable to open. When I felt the wind I realized that I wasn't in darkness but rather my eyes wouldn't open. I guess that would explain why I couldn't move.
While the substance that piled on me continued falling I was trying to remember things before this darkness of my eyes. Then one thought came to mind that could possibly be the reason...I am dead. No longer am I with the living but with the dead that had to be the reason I couldn't open my eyes or move my body It was because I was dead. Still it didn't explain why I could still think unless this is the fate of all who die...Eternal Darkness. No wonder everypony says enjoy life cause after life there is nothing but black. Is this really death. Though all of this still makes no sense, If I was dead I wouldn't feel the cold wind or the substance that was falling on me, I couldn't feel them before and I shouldn't feel them at all if I truly was dead. I can't explain any of this all the things I keep thinking always end up with some sort of why? *Why** am I in this darkness, If I was dead then why have I started to feel things again. Why was I dead in the first place, am I even dead!..WHY!..WHY!..WHY!! It hurts...It hurts, see I'm feeling pain but why can't I feel anything else that is my body.*
By now the things that were falling on me have stopped...I *feel** buried...*
I remember, I remember a war. Yes, a war...A civil war between the Earth ponies, the Pegasi, and the Unicorns this conflict caused by the lack of food from the Earth ponies, the lack of sun and moon from the Unicorns, and a eternal winter caused by the Pegasi. From what I could remember the war destroyed cities, and killed millions from all three sides. I was a soldier for the Earth pony side, the side that lost the most. From my last moments living I remember being furious and depressed with somepony, I could remember my last thoughts before I was "killed" by a lone spear to the eyes piercing straight through my skull. I was thinking why me...
Some more unmeasured time passed and I was still stuck with the darkness but at least I have my shattered memories they help let me see what the world was like, they don't give me much because many of them really are shattered, some even completely broken. They help nonetheless so thats good I guess. If I ever wake up and learn when the war ended I could possibly know how long I've been out. I can't begin to understand my death and my continued consciousness but I do understand that I'm somepony else, each time I look in these memories of mine I see somepony who isn't me. I don't remember who I was, or anything really these memories are just like if I was seeing somepony else's life of course some parts are missing but it does not matter anymore. I'm not that pony anymore because I can't remember who he, I, he is. When will I truly die. I feel hollow and lost. *WAKE ME UP!!** Another strong wind came in a bit weaker then the previous one but just as cold when it brushed against me I felt another twitch this time from one of my legs but it wasn't a twitch it was a movement caused by me.*
There it is again I moved my leg again. It feels heavy and stiff but joy is the only thing coming at me as I start moving my leg more and more fluently. I try to move my other leg and It moves, yes it moves side to side I feel so happy, so joyful. Something streaks against my face, it feels like a liquid, then I feel it harden, cold it feels, It must be frozen. What could it be...My hind legs I could only presume are moving by my thoughts, Slowly kicking back and forth. My head.
I'm moving my head, it feels heavier then my legs and more stiff. I try my best to move it up and I think I'm succeeding I don't feel a hard cold surface anymore as I put the life back into my body, my head it throbs and so does the rest of my body. I hear a thumping sound coming from my body. It's really slow but it's gradually getting faster. I think it's beating with a rhythm and with each beat I feel a surge of energy or something go through my body. The beat is getting louder and faster. It's beating even faster, and faster, and faster.
I inhale very loudly, my eye opens for the first time in forever...Now i'm greeted with whiteness...What wonders await me...
Beginnings Are A Means To An End
The pony's pale green body lies side ways on the cold ground as snow falls atop him, as his one good eye wide ooen observes the blizzard as it goes by, darting back and forth between different views. The length of his time in the darkness has left his body exposed to the harsh outside and what possibly could have been decades has left his body rather torn and decomposed. The visible side of his face is nothing but rotten flesh and exposed bone, from his forehead to his jaw, you can visibly see the jawbone, as some of what was left of his cheeks are strings strung like thick fleshy spiderwebs. The exposed bone is only to the side as his muzzle which still has some skin on it. His jaw was slightly opened.
I'm Alive! For the first time since my "Death", I'm alive, like I'm actually awake. The darkness is gone from my sight and what I see now is whiteness a never ending whiteness but this was not just another darkness it's actually the world of Equis. This whiteness is snow, yes that's what this is called...Snow and the little falling specks are snowflakes, no snowflake are the same from what I remember. My lone eye darts up and down taking in my new surroundings, I'm trying to not take this all at once sense my body still lays on the freezing ground covered mostly in snow but my head is covered only by specks of snow.
My breathing has come back to me and it's at a normal rate and at first I was hyperventilating but now I've calm down and I'm enjoying the air that is filling my now active lungs and it feels marvelous as my lungs inhale and exhale the freezing air as I can visibly see my breath. I began to try to move my leg to the side as I heard a faint crackling sound coming from my moving leg, I figure the crackling sound was my stiff sort of mummified leg moving for the first time in years, the snow that cover it slowly fell off. Next I try my front hooves that crack as well. I vertically place my front hooves, pushing away some of the snow with the force I place against the ground. I lifted myself up and proceeded to do the same with my other hoof, then my back hooves do the same thing, snow falling off my whole body, the same cracking sound is heard but It doesn't bother me as I lift my body off the snowy ground. It feels amazing to finally move my body from what was a laying position to standing on all hooves. I turn my head to look at my decomposed body more thoughly, the same crack was heard as I turned my head to the side. My spine was visibly poking out, the skin having already flaked off. The skin around it seeming to reside back as if my spine actually had grown out or ripped out of the skin. It seems to me that my skin and fur have turned a dark green, either I use to be green or my body just turned green. I really don't recall much of my life or my body before I died. Time to see the rest.
My skin on my body has withered away exposing my inards to the harsh environment. Some broken ribs poke out from my body as my chest area is completely devoid of skin, showing off my ribs, and the organs behind it, my lungs which I can visibly see pump up and down as I breath, my heart that I can see beating as well. This doesn't disturb me as much as I thought it would as I look at my exposed organs with amusment. The parts of my body that are exposed only go to my stomach before I see skin again, rotten skin but still skin. So my intestines are secure but a little ways down I see that my right back leg is nothing but bones, I wonder how I can still move it with out the muscles and all that. Doesn't matter it still functions well. I can see that I'm lacking a tail too.
"Finally, after who knows how long, I'm free from my dark prison and back into what I can only presume is the outside world...", I breath in a huge breath of air, enjoying the feeling of the air going through my lungs. "it's been to long, and I'm ready to enjoy my new chance at life." Was that what my awaking was for to give me at new chance. I didn't think fate had its favorites, what plans do you have for me
He placed one hoof In front of the other slowly trying to walk again as he hasn't done so in years, the freezing cold ground sends a shiver down his exposed spine. With what's left of his face he smiles loving the feeling that he is feeling after so long of forgetting of what they are like. Soon enough he starts to walk normally as the memory of how to walk came back to him. While he walks through the blizzard that is going on he tries his best to see any sign of life or even civilization through the thick snowy winds. At one point he even tries to squint his eye only to come to the realization that his only functional eye has no skin around it, meaning no eyelids. Should have realized that earlier, no time for lamenting. The decomposed pony continued his trot through the harsh winter land that has been consumed by a blizzard.
*Crack*
The dead pony stops and turns his head to the sound of what he assumes to be that of a cracked branch being stepped on. Something was near, what could it be, another pony, no not in his weather, maybe something like him perhaps. He had spent a very long amount of time walking through this never ending blizzard not sure of, he was actually going any where
"Oh what joy, I'm not alone after all. I hope he can give me some better insight because I don't know a dang thing. Hehe...", He really hopes that this other creature could help him. A quick look around his area and nothing was visible still, the blizzard still obscures his sight, but wait, he starts to see a silhouette not so far off. It "stands" behind him, observing him. The dead pony tilts his head o the side trying to make out the strange silhouette that he sees. It's very long, large with four legs, and horns atop it's head. That is all that was visible to him. "Should I check this out, I mean it's all I have besides this snowy storm and I really want to learn more about myself and this world of mine....", with an attempted smile, he proceeds to trot over to the silhouette.
Now much closer he finally sees it and the creature finally sees him. The creature was very peculiar as his head resembled a pony's yet he had a goat horn and a deer antler, with a one sharp tooth existing his mouth, he had a grey head with a long black mane, his body was brown with...A bird leg and a lion leg as his front hooves, and a dragon and pony leg as his back legs. It's body ended with a red-ish serpent tail with a white tuff of fur at the end. Such a strange creature indeed. While this may have shocked ponies, I find amusment in his chaotic appearance it seems to suit him fine though it seems it's the chaotic creatures turn to react as he looks at me with an angered confused look.
"Well hel-*cough* *cough* *cough!*", I tried to speak but only one word came out as I choked on the rest spiting out a gush of green liquid that hit the snow floor. I hadn't spoken out loud since my awakening and the sudden attempt to caused a strain on my throat.
"RAWWWWWWWWR!", the chaotic beast roared with pain and rage, something I could tell it had as it lunged at me in a levitating manner snaking in the air. I on what I think was instinct swiftly side stepped the attack causing the creature to hit the cold ground face first. It screamed in agony as he got up from the snow looking back at me with angered yellow eyes, again he lunged to me but before I could react to it he disappeared in a white flash in front of me before reappearing behind me but as before out of instinct I leaped out of the way,-Surprise me that my war torn body could handle all of this- from the attack again sending the creature towards the ground.
“RAAAAAWWWR, RAWWWWWWWWR", again it roared sounding like a screeching pony in agony more than an animal. He disappeared in another white flash before appearing behind me again but disappeared again, appearing to my left side but once again it disappeared this time it didn't reappear instantly.....A hole appeared beneath me as the chaotic creature sprang from it like a bolt of lighting, smashing into me and sending me flying, spinning, then slamming into the ground causing a small snow silhouette of me to form below me. I stood up and shook the snow off of me later to realize that the creature wasn't done as it tackled me down to the ground causing me to skid through the snow before disappearing again. Another attempt to stand resulted in the creature to slam into me again, it didn't disappear this time as he pinned me down to the snowy ground. I dodged the creatures attempts to bite my head off. Angered he raised his talon clawed leg and went for a slash to my face but on another Instinct I jerked my head forward causing an invisible force to push the creature off hurling him away. The sudden force caused a circular patch to appear beneath me. It caused to creature to skid across the ground upon impact. He shook the snow off again.
"My Turn!", I manage to muster out two words my voice sounding raspy and old but dark. With those words said, I too found myself able to teleport leaving a black cloud behind. I reappear in front of the chaotic creature from there I blasted it with a black and purple beam that came from my mouth again this was on an instinct that I would later hope to learn. The beam hit it square in the face the creature again skid on the floor when it hit the ground. -By now the blizzard had stop showing me a vast field of snow and in the distance I can see a village-. I look back at the creature this time he seemed to have a angered smirk on his face as he slammed his lion foot on the ground causing a black pillar to appear below me, slamming into my jaw, detaching one side of it from my skull, I regain my footing as I look at my jaw as it sways back and forth still attached to one side, a green liquid pour out. The chaotic creature laughs at my predicament before he grins at me and disappears in a flash leaving behind the black pillar and an echoing manical laugh that sounded more pony then animal.
I didn't feel the extreme pain of having my jaw broken but I could still feel a small pain coming from it. I placed my hoof underneath it and began to play with it flapping it up and down simulating me talking but only gurgle sounds came from my mouth as I tried to speak with my jaw still broken. Again I place my front hoof on my jaw but I aimed to reattach it this time and with a little force I heard a snapping sound before letting go of my jaw and it didn't fall. I moved my jaw around, biting the air to find out if my jaw has actually been fixed. It seems as it has been fixed.
"Seems as though I'm not the only thing that has come alive due to this war, but I wonder why have we actually come back for this, do our fates not end on the days we die or are we alive via magical means. What wonder shall you bring me" the dead pony said looking up to the night sky that was full of stars, the he looked down in the direction of the village. Where he soon began to trot too.
