Defender of Equestria

Everything has a right to life, and yet nothing can say that you have the right to die.    This concept has always bugged me in some ways.   Trying to understand it for the past couple hundred to thousand years or more and yet it avoids me, trying to connect them but there is always something getting in the way of the conclusion, it there and yet not there.   Kind of like my life and job, as a matter of fact.   Like why i'm still doing it.   I still have to remind myself the reason why I still do this and yet I don't know why that is.   Is it that I still feel obligated towards Luna and Celestia or my friendship towards them.  Have been a cat and all.   Well not all the time being a human and a cat off and on every 10,000 to a 1,000 years and all that.

I'm old, too old, lived so many lives, that I lost count.    So many experiences so much time.  I've dun it all, and yet not enuf.   how old  am I again. . .   Your sure its somewhere in the millions. . .  Somewhere around there.  "Sigh"  it doesn't matter how old you are you'll still keep on existing in the living plain no matter how much you want to die.   You have only one wish that seem will never be granted.    you had other wishes.   But they became  pointless, meaningless even.  To the point of forgetting why you wanted those wishes.   but there is one wish that you knew you want and can't give up on. Getting home.

But still things never do change for me...  do they...  Zee...

“AAAAAAH!" I yells at the night sky.   "What am I doing with my life, I mean really?!”   I said to myself out loud, as I sat there on some random balcony in Canterlot Castle, as the moon rises by Luna's power, pondering on life and my job.

“Defending this blasted kingdom is starting to get boring and repetitive.    I mean, ever since the wielders of Harmony came a long, I’ve been taking a back seat.” I said complaining to myself, bored out of my mind as my white cat tail flicked back and forth.

Then Blue, my more crude and darker half said in our subconscious.  “Well you could always get rid of them by sending them to another world or even better, we can put them in my automatic torture chamber and lock the door.”  He said maliciously rubbing his blue fur paws back and forth, purring.

“I'll never understand your joy for torturing others and do you even have a torch chamber.  Last I check you haven't able to do anything for at last 1225 years.”   Zee said to Blue sarcastically curious.

Then Yellow, Zee’s lighter and more bubbly half said.  “If the Elements of Harmony ever turn evil, I'll personally kill them quickly for you, if it ever comes to that, but I'm not sure about Pinkie.   I don't think she has an evil in her pink body.”  his tone cooled, collected and cheerful at the same time, while drank imaginary tie as he said it.

I paused as Yellow said that. Then simply say.  “You know we don’t kill” I said annoyed.” Even if they're good or evil that always been our policy that you've had a problem with in the far past.   Besides I've begun to like those 6 ponies anyway, even if they've been stealing all the more exciting fun stuff for them self’s.”   Zee said to both of them. Deciding to ignore them both, wanting to think by himself.

Ever since the changeling invasion and the Crystal Empire suddenly reappearing.   Either nothing happens or those six pony with their trinkets would blast the threat way or turn them to stone.   With a flashy rainbow attack or something.   Even so, those six ponies had begun to grow on him, especially Pink one.   Though her wanting to have party all the time, starts to wear down on his nerves, especially Blue’s nerves.  As for Yellow, he can't seem to get enough of the pink bouncing pony.   Every time we see her, Yellow always gets excited in his own way and wants me to go talk to her.   While Blue wants to avoid her like the plague sometimes.    But there was that one time we came to visit Ponyville and there were a lot of pink ponies that day, way too many pink ponies.   Remembering that repeated word FUN over and over and over and over again.   A shiver ran down his spine, remembering that day making his tail look twice its size.

As for the others, they all gained my friendship and interest in one way or another.   While Yellow had mixed feeling with the other 5, besides Pinkie pie.   As for Blue, he doesn't admit it, but he likes them one way or another even Pinkie Pie sometimes.   “Sigh…… it’s just been so boring lately” I said to myself looking at Luna's moon.   My cat ears pointing down in sadness.    "And Celestia hasn't given me any good missions or quests  lately either thou-"

  I stop talking to myself. I reacted fast, turning my head and bringing my 4 feet long double edged sword to my paws though teleporting.   I pointing my blade at the figure behind me.

“Woah! Woah, take it easy there.” the figure said, putting his bird claw and lion paw up in surrender.  “Is that really any way to treat an old friend?”  I paused from annoyance by that unmistakable figure, floating before me. Seeing the mixed up mess of animal parts.

“Discord” I said with a mild annoyance attitude, bringing my sword down.  “What do you want, I'm kind of moping here?”   I said setting my sword down right next to me, instead of teleporting it back to my room.

“Oh, is the poor little kitty cat in a bad mood? Aw, I'm SOOOO sorry for bugging you.”   He said sarcastically baby talking me.

My cat ears folded back in anger.    I looking at him with slitted eyes.   My annoyed level rising.  “Discord, are you here to annoy me or do you have some business here?”   I picked up my big double edge sword, pointing at Discord again, more annoyed than before.

“Pfft fine, you're no fun, like always.”   Said Discord, Using his claw to move the point of the sword away from his throat, feeling a bit threatened by it.   “Well if you want to know, I was called in by Princess Celestia for some kind of stupid mission or something and to bring you along.” He said annoyed now, floating there while sharpening his claws with a floating shiv moving back and forth with his magic.

My cat ears instantly perked up at hearing this a little confused and interested. “You’re going on a mission already?   you've only been reformed for at lest 2 month."    I said looking at Discord in confusion.    "I thought Celestia wouldn't put you on a mission for at least another month?” I said putting my paw on my chin thinking.

“Maybe Celestia is replaying us with Discord.” Yellow said suspiciously.

“Nah, not her style. Sun butt is not the type to shove us away before our debt is repaid and besides isn't that jumping the gun a little?”  Blue said defending Celestia with a question.

“How would you know that any way?   Also, I'm not jumping the gun!”   Yellow said to Blue, his yellow cat eye glaring angrily at Blue.

“Because I trust her and the fact that Sun Butt hasn't betrayed us for the past 1225 years since we've know her and yes, yes you are jumping the gun about it.” Blue said simply.

“Your way too trusting towards Celestia, Blue!” Yellow said hissing and scowling.

“And you are waaay to untrusting towards everything!”  Blue said yelling in frustration.

“WILL BOTH OF YOU SHUT UP?! I CAN'T THINK WHEN YOU TWO BICKER!!”  I said angrily.   they mumbled to themselves before they went quiet, I went to think.  It must be important if she’s asking Discord and me for a meeting.  Though I am still unsure if Discord was trustworthy enough yet.  Then Discord spoke interrupting my thoughts.

“Well Celestia did sound urgent when she gave me a call.”  Discord said shrugging.   “and it did sound important.”

Taking in what Discord said, I picked up my big sword and placed it on my back where I had a strap.   Then I looked around me and found my yellow and blue mask as it shined in the moonlight.   One half of the mask is yellow, for my good side and the other is blue, for my bad side.    With the design I made countless lifetime ago, had two stars on each side with their opposing colors yellow into blue and blue into yellow.   I picked it up and placed it on me and since I wasn't using it I placed it onto my white fur neck, then I said to Discord.   “Than what are we waiting for?”  I jumped down from the balcony and landed on all fours with ease, padding past the floating Discord to the lit up hallway.

“I could just teleport us there, it would be faster.”   Discord said floating behind me with still an annoyed look on his face.

“No, Celestia's study isn't that far and don't look so grumpy.”   I said looking behind me putting on a cat smile.

Discord looked at me with disinterest.   “The only reason I'm being your little helper here is because Fluttershy asked me to help out.” He said a little happier when mentioning Fluttershy.

“So you're only doing this for Fluttershy?” I ask walking back a bit to match Discords speed.

“Why yes I'll do anything for my friend.”   He said with a smile.

Looking up at him smiling, I ask.   “So How has that yellow pink Pegasus been doing, last we met, she tried cuddling me to death and tried to give me cat treats . . . again." Remembering that day when I visited Fluttershy and think the last time you did visit.  "When i think of it, it has been a week since I visited Ponyville.” I said thinking well there hasn't been anything pressing or reason to go visit lately.

"That pegasus was very annoying that day.   I wouldn't mind seeing her suffer for that."   Blue said giving an evil cattish grin.

Getting annoyed by his comment I said.   "Be quiet, Blue, I'm trying to talk here and you'll do on such things an time so!" giving him an angry look in my subconscious, then turning my attention back to Discord.

"Fine!"   Blue said making a grumpy face.

Than Discord gladly started talking about his time with Fluttershy.    “We've been doing loads of things for the past two month.   Having tea parties, going on picnics, going on walks, feeding her animals, going to the spa, going on long walks, playing board games, going to Sugarcube corner, feeding her animals, having tea parties and-“

“Oh, it looks like we're already here.”   I said, while Discord looked a little unhappy for not finishing.

As I knocked on the door, I soon heard a “come in” from inside.   I soon opened the door by standing on my two back legs to reach the handle, since I was small.    I came in deciding to say on two legs instead of fours, putting my big sword at an angle so it wouldn't drag on the ground as i walked in I saw the white alicorn mare sitting at her desk her mane flowing as it always does as she looking at reports from all over the kingdom.  Followed by Discord, looking unhappy for being here, putting his mismatched legs on the ground standing right next to me grumbling.

"I'm glad you two have come."   Celestia said, putting the floating papers down, that were being held by her magical aura as they settled on her desk.

"So what do you need that requires both me and Discord?"  I said, folding my front leg in front of my chest questioningly at Princess Celestia as the sword tip clinked on the ground from not held up any more.

"Yeah, I was having a nice little tea party session with fluttershy when one of your letters popped out of nowhere, scaring poor Fluttershy out of her little mind."   Discord said giggling, remembering that funny seen.   "It took me a while to calm her down you know and it was so darn funny too."   He said giggling again putting a smile on his face again.

"Sorry to call you two so abruptly."   Celestia said looking at us both before continuing.    "I called you both here on two different missions.   We'll start with yours first Discord."   She said pointing to Discord.    "I'll be sending you on a containment mission.    Since this is your very first mission after all, i'll be sending two of my best role guards with you.    You'll be heading to the south of here to the edge of our border, where there been a huge magical spike of power and its has been growing abnormally stronger for the past hour and 26 minutes.   You should be able to track it."

Discord frowned at this and said.   "Do I really need an escort princess, I could easily handle this on my own you know."

"I know you can Discord.    But they're there to keep an eye on you and to report to me on how things are going with the containment control."   Celestia said smiling then said in a more serious tone.   "But if anything were to happen to them in any terrible way, there will not be any amount of hiding or running that would save you from my wraith or the Elements of Harmony." She said giving an evil eye that would give a full grown colt nightmares.    It could even give Fluttershy's stare a run for its money.   Celestia then spoke a little bit normally and said. "Do we have an understanding?"

"My gosh, this is why I love that mare, I'm getting chills all over my subconscious body right now." Blue said whistling seductively while shivering with excitement.

"Will you control yourself, I mean really!" Yellow said unhappily.

"Do you have a problem with that yellow cat!" Blue hissed, unsheathing his claws.

"Yes, yes I do!"   Yellow tail fluffed up unsheathing his claws as well.

"Want to go? Then lets go!"   Blue yelled ready to charge at yellow.

"Will BOTH of you shut up? We're in the middle of a meeting here!"   Zee said to both, angrily but calmly as well.    "You two can argue and fight all you want after we're done with this meeting.    Do I make myself clear!"

"Understood" Yellow said bowing in apology, than growling at Blue.

"Gladly"  Blue said growling angrily back.

I swear one of these day those two are going to drive me over the edge.   Like they haven't dune that before. I said to myself sarcastically.

"Don't worry, under my watch nothing bad will happen to them, I promise"  Discord said not intimidated at all by Celestia stare.   "But I would like to know what i'm dealing with can you give me some information on this anomaly."

"Of course" she said, then looking at me and asked.   "Zee can you give me a report on that large mass of magic south of here?"

"As you wish" I said putting my mask on then saying.   "Mask, give me the largest magic energy account in the southern part of Equestria and speakers on, so they can all hear you please."

There was a pause then a mechanical voice spoke, coming from the mask.     "There is currently a large mass of magic gathering in the Macintosh Hills near Appleloosa: source unknown :magic tip unknown: size is 5 miles in diameter: density is 1552.993: increasing in density and size every 5 minutes: no other information found."   The yellow blue mask went silent.

"You're right about one thing, there's seem to be a large... mass...   of... " Zee stopped taking after getting weird expressions from Discord.

"What?" Zee said questioning.   "Is there something on my mask or what" taking off his mask he looked it over making sure it didn't have something dirt or bleed on it.

Discord then spoke looking curiously at my mask that I was holding in my paw.   "Sorry but your mask just spoke by itself, i've never heard it speak before,    I'm no different when making objects more sentient or even seeing more technology for that matter."   He said, stroking his beard thoughtfully.  "I've created many thing and seen many things but never a sentient mask that looked like that before."

"Because i'm the one who made it, Discord." I said putting his mask back on.

"Is that so? Last I checked, you're not some dimensional being like myself. . . or. . . are you?"   Discord said looking me over more closely.

"Lets just say I have my ways, Discord."   I said looking up at him.   "May we continue this conversation later i think we've left the princess waiting long enough."   I said gesturing with my paw towards Celestia who was drinking tea at her desk holding it with her magic, waiting patiently, as her mane flowed in the solar wind.

"Oh...  sorry...  got carried away with the new development of our friend here, princess."  Discord said in apology.

"Its fine Discord, but we should get back to business."   Celestia said calmly, putting the tea cup down on the plate making a clinking sound.   "Now did you get enough information from Zee's mask?"   She said tilting her head in a question.

"Hmm..  well..  i got the jist of it." Discord said thinkingly.

"Then head to the south barracks in the castle, your escort is waiting for you."   Celestia said smiling.   Moving her hooves in a shooing motion.

"Well if that's all then I'm off."   Discord said wiggling his fingers in a goodbye.   "Toodaloo," he said, putting sunglasses on than with a flash and a poof, he was gone.

Things went quiet fast as soon as Discord disappeared.   Me and Celestia stood and sat in awkward silence for a minute or two.   I was the first to break the silence.

"So whats the other mission that you have for me."   I said standing patiently with my front legs folded tapping my back paw's claw on the stone floor.

"Alright" Celestia sighed then hesitated for a few seconds. "I need you to investigate things in the Crystal Empire for me...  " She paused when Zee stopped tapping his claw on the stone floor.    Not sure if she should continue or not.    I did a circling motion in the air with my paw, suggesting the princess to continue.

Celestia then continue hesitating longer.   "There seems to be a strange disturbance...  the locals seem to be stressed and Princess Cadence requested for your help...  "   The masks eye expression changed into a disbelieving look.( )   In the thousand of years  she knew Zee, he always knew if she was lying or not and that mask he wore unnerved her sometimes as well.   His mask seemingly matching his expressions on his face perfectly.   She could never seem to figure that thing out.    Some times thinking it was alive at times.   He never seems to give her a straight answer about that mask, saying it was a little pet project he did a long long time ago.   Though she figures that she shouldn't pry into him about the mask of his too much.

Celestia sighed again giving in and said.   "OK fine, she needs your help in making sure that the Crystal Empire gets to host the Equestria games this year."   Everything went quiet for a moment.   Zee then spoke taking in a breath then sighed.

"Another boring request, again."   He said depressed, lowering his head and his cat ears sadly.   Then perking up instantly like a whip like nothing happened.

"Well that was faster than normal" Celestia whispered to herself.   Expecting him to be upset with her for a week or more for not putting him on a better mission or request.   She tries to but ever since the changeling invasion, Zee's popularity has exploded.   Everyone saw him as he rallied the troops to fight the changelings, holding the overwhelming changeling forces at bay, keeping the citizens safe the best he could. Everyone saw him and praised him for holding back the changelings.   Nowadays, everypony is calling him the Defender of Equestria and since then, covert missions became impossible to do now because they would recognize him from the newspapers and would start to swarm him and the fact that Zee was a cat made him stick out like a sore hoof.

'It wasn't to bad' he said 'the publicity would probably fade away in a few years' Zee said.    But he still didn't like publicity very much but Zee says he can handle it. You stopped thinking to yourself as he spoke again.

"Well I guess I have nothing better to do. Plus, I guess seeing Cadence again would be nice."   I said trying to sound optimistic.   "And another thing.    Why does she need me? I'm a cat that fights things of all shapes and sizes what could she possibly want with a fighting cat like me?"    I said sarcastically putting my paw on my chest suggesting to myself.

"Well" Celestia started to say as she tapped her hoof on her chin.   "Cadence needs more moral support and to take off some of the work load.  She been stressed out putting together the Crystal Empire for the Equestria Games.   She's been up to her neck in work.   Shining Armor has been doing his best to share the work but he's been trying to get the athletes ready for the games and He's been trying to help but his other royal duties have been keeping him from helping Cadence more."     She pauses looking at Zee.   "and I'm pretty sure you have more skills than fighting monsters?"    She said questionably knowing, but was happy that Zee wasn't upset about the new request any more.

But I was.

I've been dying for a good mission for weeks, all 3 of us in fact, Blue, Yellow and me.    We spent most of our time in our lab tinkering away but we needed to get out more.   We could only stand being in that lab for so long.    Mixing different kinds of pony magics kind of gets boring when you have to wait for different reactions to happen 4 to 6 days at a time.    Pony magic doesn't seem to act like natural magic when mixing them.    Well there's nothing natural about magic in the first place, anyways, back to business, as he got back from his thoughts.

"Well true I do have a certain amount of skills but my specialty is fighting and all."  Zee said proudly.   "Anyways, when does the crystal princess want me over?" I asked changing the subject

"Tomorrow morning around 10:00. Oh, right!"   She said as it popped in her head almost forgetting.    "I almost forgot, Twilight and her friends are coming over to help out.   They'll be doing the smaller details of preparation."   Celestia said smiling when mentioning her star pupil and her friends.

I then looked annoyed again.   Celestia noticed, then asked.  "Is there a problem Zee?" there was 10 seconds of silence she counted as the tensions mounted in the study, he spoke.

"Yes" I simply put and calmly to Celestia.

When hearing this, Celestia flinched at the comment.   She hated when somepony was unpleased especially Zee.  He isn't that hard to please admittedly, but when Zee was up set with her.   he would become unhappy and start to act like... well... an upset cat.    Avoiding me, giving me the glare when ever he sees me, scratching on the furniture, but would gets over it in a week or so. . .

I spoke again interrupting her thoughts.    "Sorry for the bluntness, but if you're sending Twilight then why are you sending me?"   He asked a little annoyed.

"Well... to put it simply... it's to give Twilight some more experience when it comes to larger scale organising."   she said as sweat ran down her face from the intense gaze that Zee was giving Celestia and other things.

"She's hiding something."   I said in my subconscious

"You think?" Blue said sarcastically.

"Really, because I can't tell" Yellow said dumbly, which gave him the 'your an idiot'  look from both Blue and me.   Which caused Yellow to question. "What?   What did i say?"

Ignoring the dense yellow one, I continued.   "What do you think she's hiding."   I asked Blue.

I don't know, Sun Butt has been acting weird about everything lately."    Blue said looking uncertain.      "Whenever she gets this way, she's always hiding something really important.     What should we do?"    Blue asks, his blue eye seem to stare at nothingness, deep in thought.

"For the time being I should act like nothing wrong and beside I don't like jumping to conclusions like Yellow does."    I said pointing at Yellow behind him.

"Hey!!"  Yellow pouted.    "I might not be able to figure thing out like you two.    But I don't have to take this from you both."    He said annoyed flattening his ears and folding is front legs glaring at me.

"OK, OK. I apologize for saying that."    I said as sincerely as possible.

"Fine, but i'm still mad at you."   Yellow said with a scowl on his face.

I stopped glaring at Celestia and smiled.   "Well it can't be helped."   I said trying to seem grateful.   "I guess a joined assignment with your student wont be too bad...  I guess."  I said hesitating with displeasure.

Celestia was sweating a little, glad that he was OK with it, kind of.   'I swear that glare of his can get intense' she thought.   "well I'm glad you approve."   She said happily with a smile

"Well I'm off to bed. See you in the morning." Zee said turning around waving good bye.   Before he took another step, his mask spoke out loud still in speaker mode.

"Unknown alicorn magic detected."

Before any one could act, a glowing gray magical circle appeared under my feet and activated.   I was suddenly retained by the magic circle and held down by it.    The circle started attacking my mind causing me to be in intense pain as if my brain was being ripped apart slowly. arks  of magic lightning was shooting across my body and from the circle as well.

"YAYAEUYE AS DRTUAyysuuUy!!!!!!!!!!"   I was yelling from the intense pain, trying to reach my long sword but the circle restained me.    then I heard Celestia yell out in shock and panic heading straight towards me to help.

"ZEE!!!!!!"

Before I knew it, I was blacking out.
