//-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Wants To Be Fun -by ilikepie56- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Wants To Be Fun //-------------------------------------------------------// Twilight Wants To Be Fun “Pinkie, I have a favor to ask of you.” “What is it, Twilight?” “Well, it's just,” Twilight looks at the ground, slowly prodding at the dirt with her hoof. “You're fun, and i'm not. I want to learn how to be fun like you.” “Why do you want to be fun? Can you not use magic anymore! Oh my Celestia, this is terrible!” Pinkie Pie started to run around in circles, when a purple aura surrounded her and put her in front of her friend. “No Pinkie, I can still use magic as you can see. It's just that wherever you go ponies laugh and have a good time but wherever I go they expect chores or something.” Pinkie Pie puts her hoof to her chin and thinks for a moment. “Okay, I can help!” “Perfect,” Twilight said. “Where do we start.” “Well,” Pinkie Pie thought for a moment. “Balloon animals are fun! Can you make balloon animals!?” Pinkie Pie pulls out a balloon from her mane and quickly fastens it into a giraffe. “Um, I can try I guess.” Pinkie Pie hands Twilight a balloon and Twilight blows some air into it. No matter what she did though, it would always pop. After several dozen balloons and hours of practice, Twilight started to get the hang of it. “Hows this?” She asked, holding up her new creation. Pinkie Pie rubbed underneath her chin and studied the balloon for several minutes, thinking intently on the rubber animal. “What is it?” She asked, breaking the silence. “It's an owl!” Shouted Twilight, shoving the mangled creation into Pinkie Pie's face. Pinkie Pie looked at the 'owl', then back to Twilight, then back to the 'owl'. “Are you sure?” She blurted out. “Well, I, uh...” Twilight stammered as she looked at the balloon. “No, I guess not.” Twilight threw the balloon on the ground and pouted. “Maybe balloon animals just aren't my thing. What about something else?” Pinkie thought for a second. “Oh, you can try making cupcakes!” A huge grin appeared on Twilight's face. “Sure! Everyone loves baked goods and all you need to do is follow the instructions!” Twilight trotted out the door. “I can easily follow directions, thats for sure!” Pinkie Pie bounced out the door with Twilight. “Yea! It's perfect for your boring old self!” “Yea, I know-” Twilight stopped and looked back at pinkie. “Hey!” Pinkie Pie continued bouncing and started humming to herself. The two ponies trotted on down over to Sugarcube Corner to start the baking. Twilight walked into the kitchen and was blown away by the amount of materials that she saw. “I have all kinds of sprinkles, mixes, flavors, colors and frosting! Mmmm, frosting...” Pinkie licks her lips and starts to drool. “Okay, so according to my Equestrian Cook Book, we need to-” “NO!” Pinkie shouted angrily at Twilight. “Cupcakes aren't made with instructions and smarts! It's made with sugar and silliness!” “But i've never really done anything off the book,” Twilight said nervously. “Will it work without it?” “Of course it will, silly!” Pinkie laughed. “Now lets get started!” Pinkie throws some ingredients in the air and catches them in a bowl she's holding with her tail. She sets the bowl down and grabs some sprinkles, stirring the rest of the ingredients in the bowl. “Okay, so we just take some of these ingredients,” Twilight grabs some sugar, flour and some eggs and puts them into a bowl. “Then we just start to mix it up,” Twilight get's a slight smile on her face. “This isn't that hard!” Twilight starts to move like Pinkie Pie, using swift body movements to execute the steps required to make cupcakes. Pinkie started humming a song loudly while her and Twilight continued mixing the ingredients. After an intense, baking filled half hour, their respective batches of cupcakes were finally ready. Pinkie Pie cheerfully took hers out, while Twilight, quite nervously, took hers our. Pinkie popped one of her cupcakes in her mouth before hovering over Twilights shoulder. She couldn’t wait to see one of Twilight's cupcakes. “Let me see!” “Um,” murmured Twilight, looking over her batch. “I'm not quite sure they turned out quite right.” Pinkie looks at Twilight's deformed batch of cupcakes and takes a bite. Her face puckers up as she spits out the bite. “That was terrible!” She yelled. “You need to take a class in cupcake making!” “But I thought that you said cupcakes were made spontaneously.” “For most, yes. But you're an exception.” Pinkie pulled out a chalkboard and a desk. She sat Twilight down and threw on a science coat. Twilight's eyes widened as she recognized the current setting. “Now this I can do! Alright Pinkie, what should I know about baking cupcakes.” Pinkie Pie started going over all of her whacky procedures of making cupcakes. A lot of the steps seemed to have involved giggles. After a few hours of watching a pink pony spout nonsense, Twilight was ready for another shot. “Okay, so we covered sprinkles, baking patterns, for some reason the art of giggles, and amounts of ingredients. I think I'm ready.” The two started baking again, just as smoothly as before. After another half hour of baking, the cupcakes were ready. Pinkie looked at the new batch and shouted “Wowie Zowie!” She took a big bite from one of them. “My brain just went Powie!” “Is... is that a good thing or a bad thing,” Twilight asked, questioning Pinkie. Pinkie bounced up and down with a large smile. “It's a great thing, silly! Those were amazing! You're one step closer to not being boring!” “That's great!” Twilight said, jumping in glee. “This just shows that books and teachings can do great things! So what comes next in the quest to be fun?” “You need to practice hosting an uberly amazingly awesome party!” Pinkie shouted to her friend, a little to close for comfort. “Alright then,” Twilight said, pushing her friend back a bit with her magic. They both started out of Sugarcube Corner. “So, what's one stip you would give me for a good part?” “Invite a lot of ponies! Why don't you start by inviting everypony to a party in the park!” Pinkie said, pulling a stack of invitations out of her mane. “So,” Twilight started, grabbing the invitations with her magic. “When you say 'everypony', do you mean our friends 'everypony', or literally 'everypony' everypony?” Pinkie started blankly at her friend. “Wow, you sure did use everypony a lot! But yes!” “Yes what!” Twilight yelled. Pinkie ignored her and just bounced away. “Friends it is then.” Twilight went from friend to friend inviting them to her party. All of them we're equally confused as to why Twilight was throwing a party, but all agreed to make themselves present. Twilight found Pinkie having a staring match with a frog on a rock. “How long have you been at that for?” She asked, looking at the frog. “How long we're you gone for?” Pinkie replied, not breaking pony to frog eye contact. “About half an hour.” Twilight said. “Then that long!” Pinkie shouted, scaring the frog. “Ha! I win!” Twilight sighed. “Okay Pinkie, all the invitations are out. What's the next step?” “We need to set up the party!” Pinkie shouted as she put on a party hat and threw streamers in the air. “Okay, but where should we do that?” “How about the park!? There's enough room for dancing, games, and other fun activities!” “Sounds good,” Twilight said. They both trotted down to the park to begin the preparations. Pinkie threw streamers into trees and tied balloons to the benches. Twilight got the music ready and bought some punch. After about an hour, Pinkie stood joyfully next to Twilight. “They should be here any moment!” She exclaimed. The two waited in the park as their four friends showed up. Once they finally got there, they played some games, had some cake and danced for hours. As the sun was setting and the song ended the six fell to the grass, giggled and hugged Twilight. They all thanked her for inviting them before they left one at a time. Pinkie came up to Twilight after to help clean. “That was great, Twilight! Now the last thing you need to do is throw a party for the whole town! All by yourself!” “Well, seeing as everypony had a good time here, I think I could do it.” Twilight raised her hoof to the sky. “I will throw the best party ever!” Pinkie Pie coughed and looked angrily at Twilight. “Uhm... I will throw the best party every, only second to Pinkie Pie!” Pinkie nodded at Twilight as she trotted away. It was now late in the evening and Twilight had asked Pinkie to stay the night in order to help her plan ideas for her party. “How about a big cake?” Twilight asked. Pinkie nodded her head. “Every party needs cake, but you need it to be a super duper extra special yummy cake!” “What about a big chocolate cake? That seems simple enough.” “No! You need to impress all of Equestria!” “All of Equestria!? I thought it was a party for Ponyville only!” “Yes, but wouldn’t you want all of Equestria to hear about how amazingly amazing your party is!?” “No. No I would not.” Twilight walked over to Pinkie's cake board. “Okay, what about a 20 layered Rainbow Cake?” “That. Is. Brilliant!” Pinkie shouted as she jumped on her friend. Twilight smiled as she thought of how many ingredients they would need. “Pinky? Let's get this party started!” Pinkie cried a single tear and looked down at her friend. “My baby is growing up. When babies grow up, they need to become self dependent. That's why for the rest of the party, it's up to you.” Pinkie helps Twilight off the ground and puts her hoof on Twilight's shoulder. “I have trained you well. Good luck!” Twilight paced the room, brainstorming ideas for her party. She rose her head quickly but dropped it when she realized the idea was too bland, or as Pinkie would say, too Twilight. “Okay Twilight, think.” She sat down and looked at a picture of her friends, specifically Pinkie Pie. “What would Pinkie do?” “A one pony band!” Pinkie said, her head sticking threw Twilight's window. “Pinkie, this is supposed to be my party. Go off and do whatever Pinkies do in their free time.” Pinkie bounced delicately into the sunrise, humming her smile song. Twilight still paced around her library, racking her brain for ideas, but there nothing that she thought of that would a good party. Twilight reflected back to Pinkie's older parties to help aid her brainstorming. She paced for hours before she was startled by a knock on her door. “Twilight?” Asked Rarity waiting outside the door. “I was wondering if I could talk to you for a moment.” Twilight walked to the door and greeted her friend. “Rarity, perfect timing!” Exclaimed Twilight. “Could you help me with something?” “Why sure thing darling, what is it?” “Okay, I'm throwing a party to prove I'm fun and I was wondering if you could give me some ideas. Oh, and what did you want to say again?” “Well dear, I had heard you were having a party, and I was going to offer some help. However, I see that the offer came to me.” Twilight nodded in agreement before looking at Rarity questionably. “How did you know I was hosting a party?” Twilight asked. “Oh you know, just a little bird,” Rarity said as the the noise of crusader hooves were heard scattering outside the window. “Are...” Twilight paused and looked outside her window as she saw three fillies running away. “Are they trying to get their cutie marks in party throwing?” “Um, sure why not,” said Rarity disinterested. “Back to your party planning. What do you need help with?” “Wait, so the birdie you mentioned. Was that the Cutie Mark Crusaders or not?” “Maybe,” said Rarity quickly. “Lets focus on how I can help.” “Hold on,” said Twilight. “You can't just bring something up and not tell me. Were they the messengers or not!?” “Okay okay,” Rarity said, giving into the badgering. “I sent them to find out why you and Pinkie have been lurking around so much together.” “Okay,” breathed Twilight in relief. “See, isn’t it better to just tell the truth instead of avoiding it?” “Oh, not really dear. Okay, about your party. What do you need help with?” “Okay, I've been trying to learn how to be more fun because everypony seems to have so much fun with Pinkie and other ponies tend to get so bored around me.” “Is that all darling? Well you can't have a party without good looking décor.” “That's very true, but I first want you to know you will be a... how do I put this.” Twilight stopped for a moment to think. “You will be sort of like a consultant for decorations. I need to do this myself.” “Well of course darling. After all, it is your party.” Rarity said with a warm smile. “Okay, I'm glad you understand.” Rarity walked into the library with Twilight and they began to work. They worked for a few hours, all of which was spent teaching Twilight about color coordination. “And that is why emerald plaid shall never be used with maroon stripes. “Any questions?” Rarity asked her student. “Um, I don't think so,” said a satisfied Twilight. “Thank you so much for all the help Rarity.” Twilight hugged her friend and walked her to the door. “Bye, see you at the party!” Rarity waved goodbye and trotted into the distance. Twilight closed the door and continued to plan the best party ever. With her new skills, she could do anything. She used scissors to cut through endless yards of cloth, she ordered packages of party poppers on pBay, and decorated party hats with glitter. She was finally ready. The only thing left to do was to send out the invitations. She flew around town and dropped invitations everywhere she could, making sure to get every inch of Ponyville. She flew back home to get to sleep early in preparation for the big day. The sun crept into Twilight's room as she stirred awake. She climbed over the pile of books before feeding a bird perched on her windowsill. “Today is the day,” she thought to herself, getting ready to start the party. “You can do this Twilight. Show Ponyville that you can be fun!” Twilight paced back and forth waiting for her pBay package to arrive. She heard a knock and opened the door. It was Pinkie Pie holding the package. “Pinkie, how did you get my package?” “Oh, this?” She said gesturing to the box on her back. “I found it!” Twilight looked curiously at her friend. “Pinkie, did you find it? Or did you find it?” “I may have found it.” Twilight brought her hoof right into her face and sighed. “Okay Pinkie, however you got it, hand it over.” Pinkie dropped the package in the library and quickly scurried off again. Twilight opened her package and smiled. “Perfect,” she said with an almost sinister tone. “Now just to go decorate!” She dashed out the door to go set up her mind blowing party. First, the streamers went up. Rule number one, according to party planning extraordinaire Pinkie Pie, you always start with streamers. After all the streamers were up, she set up the table that would be holding the cake later on. After a few hours, and a large party checklist, everything was ready. Twilight stood in the middle of the town and waited. After some time, she started to feel confident that ponies wouldn’t be coming, but before she could even finish that thought she saw her friends followed by half the town. “Okay Twilight,” shouted Pinkie Pie to her friend. “Let's see what you got! Let's party!” As soon as the word party left Pinkie's mouth, the entire town burst into cheers. Dance music echoed through out the town walls as ponies danced, ate, socialized, but most importantly, they partied. The party lasted for hours. It lasted from the early afternoon to the early hours of the morning. It lasted so long that several party goers passed out before leaving. As the party died down, ponies left dragging their passed out friends. They said good bye to each other while others stayed to talk some more. Twilight walked over the mess to her friend Pinkie Pie. “So, what did you think?” She said almost out of breath from partying. “That was spectacular Twilight!” Pinkie screamed. Rarity and Fluttershy walked by dragging Rainbow Dash by her back legs. She had passed out while still holding a mug of apple cider. “And you guys thought it was awesome and fun too?” “Well of course, darling!” Rarity exclaimed. “Everypony, includin' us, had a great time Twilight,” said Applejack. “I don't know 'bout y'all, but i'm beat.” “I think that the party was pretty awesome,” said Fluttershy softly. “Even if I kept to myself most of the night.” “Thanks girls!” Said Twilight with a huge smile. “I'm so glad you guys had such a great time tonight.” Twilight looked over the colossal mess she had made from the party. “You girls can leave this mess, I'll take care of it tomorrow after a good nights rest.” Twilight trotted happily away. As she disappeared out of view, Pinkie turned to the group. “All in favor for Twilight never hosting a party again?” “Agreed,” they all said in unison. Rainbow Dash got up off the ground and brushed herself off. “This wasn't even hard cider! I drank at least 15 and still feel nothing.” “I don't know y'all, we can't lie to Twilight. It's not right.” “I told you guys we shouldn't have let the element of honesty in on this,” said Pinkie looking over at Rarity. Applejack glared angrily at Pinkie Pie. “What!? I knew it would be like this,” said Pinkie Pie. “Either way, just don't tell her. She wanted to be fun, so she at least thinks she's fun now.” “Alright,” Applejack sighed, still somewhat upset. “Okay, so then we're in agreement to not tell Twilight, right?” Fluttershy quietly asked. “Agreed,” said Applejack followed by the nodding of heads from her friends. So after having sworn to secrecy, Twilight never did find out how fun she really was. But in the end, she was happy and that's all that really counts.
