//-------------------------------------------------------// The Depressed Unicorn -by PyroChangeling- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue //-------------------------------------------------------// Prologue Damn, I hate my life. Why am I here? Why... Flashback. First day of high school for many unicorns in Canterlot. A very important day, especially for a certain unicorn. His name is Vasili Ratchet, a typical unicorn all the way from St Petershoof. With white fur and a green-entwined-with-blue mane, he isn't one thought to be the analytical type, yet he is. Unfortunately for him, he is still missing his cutie mark...making him a prime target for bullying. Vasili knew this day was important, but deep inside he was regretful of even showing up. He wished he could have stayed in St Petershoof, but the adults cast him away to Canterlot. Now he was forced to bunk in a clinic with other smart ponies who were cast into this life. Vasili walked into the school, which had a big sign up front reading 'Canterlot School for the Gifted.' It made him feel a bit better about himself, surely only nice ponies would be inside...he was wrong. First period for Vasili was Geometry, great for him since he loved to do mathematics. As everyone else looked for their friends to sit with, Vasili sat in a corner seat by the front, so he could still see. He definitely was not looking forward to class introductions, as he was shy...and being in a completely new area didn't help. "Hey, who are you?!" asked a pink unicorn in a yell.Being startled by the sudden yell interrupting his deep thoughts, Vasili jumped into the air, frightened. He calmed down when he saw it was just another student...but panicked when he saw all the others looking at him. "I have never seen you around Canterlot! Are you new? Where are you from?!" "Um...yes," Vasili choked out, frightened by all the attention. "I am here from St Petershooof." Suddenly everyone in the classroom started cracking up. "St Petershoof?!" somepony yelled out. "Only brutes come from there! You look like a weakling! No way you come from there!" Vasili felt himself shrink. His first day in high school was already a bust. "Hey, leave him alone guys," a filly said in a serious tone. "Can't you see he has enough problems being a BLANK FLANK?!" Everyone started laughing again. Suddenly, everyone stopped. A purple mare with a blue mane had walked in and was tapping her hoof. "For shame, children. If someone is new to our very great city, they should be treated nicely!" She walked up to Vasili and whispered into his ear, "If they give you any more trouble, come to me." Changing pace, she walked up to the front of the class. "Okay students, my name is Miss Elise Equations, you may call me Miss Elise. I am your Geometry teacher for the year. Today I will introduce you to the basic class principles. Rule one, do not talk unless I allow you so. Rule two..." Vasili was still shaken, but was starting to feel better. If his teacher was nice to him, eventually everyone else would be...right?        As the morning rolled on, Vasili found himself in similar predicaments to his first encounter with the Geometry students. His second period class, Equestrian Linguistic Studies, had an almost exact copy of what happened earlier. However, the teacher's response was...different.        "Okay students, settle down, you fillies in the front. I'm watching you. Anyways, what, may I ask, has caused such a commotion that everyone is laughing?" The students all pointed to Vasili. "Well now, I heard about you. Mr. Ratchet. An immigrant from St Petershoof, eh? Hopefully this class won't be too...hard for you. Anyways I am Professor Scroll, short for Silver Scroll. I will be teaching you all the more advanced ideals of our language here in Equestria. "        Vasili felt something new inside him. Something he hadn't felt in a long time. Rage. He realized this teacher was prejudice against others from different lands or cities. As everypony should know, prejudice is a form of ignorance. Vasili declared ignorance to be the bane of his existence. He knew at this moment the teacher would be a problem. He decided on going to the school counselor after school to discuss changing the class and overall conduct of the students. Otherwise, he would have a serious problem on hoof.        After the bell marked the end of second period, Vasili rushed out the door onto his next class: Physical Education. It was a bit fortunate his class was placed at that time, as lunch began right afterwards. As he rushed over to his class, he saw someone familiar. A pink unicorn was coming up to him.        Before he could go around her, she said, "Wait. Vasili, I'm very sorry for what I did first period. I thought about it all and realized making fun of you isn't a good way to make friends, and you seem like a nice guy. I have P.E. next period, where are you going?"        "Uh, I'm going to P.E. too," he answered, a bit happy about her apologizing.        "Sweet, let's walk together. By the way, my name's Surprise, nice to meet you, Vasili."        The duo walked on to their next class and arrived without any further delay. As they walked to their teacher, several ponies gave them a funny look.        "Don't mind them, they are just a little anxious after what happened first period." she announced to him when she noticed his worried expression.        After about three minutes of loud chatter in the class, the gym teacher showed up.        "Students..students," he tried to say, but they were to busy chattering. "AT EASE, STUDENTS!" he yelled. Everyone was now silent. "Good, now, I say this has been a pretty bad start with your disrespectful attitude when I arrived. However, I believe we can make amends. I am your gym teacher, Staff Sergeant Buck Yew." At this exact point, the whole class started laughing. "QUIET! I was born into a woodcutting family, and was destined to become a soldier. Now, today we are gonna get aquainted and will go over what I expect outta you disrespectful brats. I am gonna train you to be both physically and mentally fit for school!" At this point, Vasili was inspired to prove himself to this teacher that he wasn't like the rest of the group, that he was respectful and disciplined. His problem, however, would be the physical part. Back in St. Petershoof, the adults and foals always talked about him, not being able to work like the rest of the stallions his age, and acting high class with his magic. Nevertheless, Vasili tried his best to fit in. The day continued on, the students had lunch and Vasili got more aquainted with Surprise, forming a friendship. The classes that followed: Anatomy of Equi Creatures, History of Canterlot, and Advanced Magical Studies. Within these three classes, he made a much better impression. These were more advanced classes with intelligent minds such as himself. And with that, there were a few immigrants as well. His favorite class turned out to be Advanced Magical Studies, where he got to practice and learn new spells. The teachers were nice as well, treating the students as equals and knowing that they were destined for greatness- each and every one of them. Vasili himself was happy to hear them all say that, for he hoped that he would find his Cutie Mark in magic and anatomy. He was very hopeful in it all. After Advanced Magical Studies, the school day was over- at least for Vasili. But before he could go to the orphanage center, he had to fulfill his personal goal of dealing with Professor Scroll. As he walked into the counselor's office, he was greeted by Miss Elise, who had come by to pick something up before she left. After a quick chat, they went their separate ways. Vasili headed to the counselor's office, just to trot right into the door, which was slammed open by an enraged student. "Ow! Dear Luna, what's your problem?!" Vasili asked, rubbing his face with his hoof. "Oops, sorry." The random colt said apologetically. Back Inside the room, a voice was heard saying, "See, you need to try going to those anger management classes I suggested, Jag. Your anger will only hurt those around you, especially your team." The colt, apparently named Jag, responded with a simple whatever and trotted outside. Vasili, still rubbing his face with his hoof, trotted inside. "Sorry about that, Jag has been dealing with some issues lately. Judging by your looks, I'm guessing you are Vasili Ratchet, the new immigrant from St.Petershoof?" "Yes, how did you know?" Vasili responded. "It's my job to know all the students, and I have photographic memory. Also, I read your file. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish in the time you are here, Vasili." The counselor extended his hoof, and Vasili gladly shook it. "The name's Golden Memory, just call me Golden or Doc. I am a doctor, you know how?" With a bit of thought Vasili replied, "By a doctor's degree in psychiatry?" "Yes! You are one of the first students to have guessed that. Now, enough about me, what do you wish to discuss?" Vasili got straight to the point, explaining what happened in second period. Unfortunately, he was stuck with Professor Scroll, no other teachers were available. He was both fearing and expecting this, but he thanked Golden anyways. As he trotted off back to the orphanage, he began to think about how he would go through this year in school. He hoped that it would be a cinch, the students eventually backing off and learning to cope with him. Unfortunately, he was far from right.
