Chapter 1: Artificially-Sweetened Lies
Words.. Words have always filled me with a wonder. Not just how they are, but how they are spoken. How they can be cruel and sweet at the same time, I call them artificially-sweetened, but most ponies call them sarcastic. I like my name better.
My name is Cloud, and I am a Pegasus. I have a torquiest coat with a white mane and tail. My eyes are dark gray, like a thundercloud. My mane is longer than most other fillies, well, I also have never had it cut. My classmates all talk about when they got their hair cut. I never, ever had a hair cut before. I wonder what it's like. My classmates also talk about what they do over the weekends, like spending time with their families. My parents are never around, but usually leave some food. I remember a couple of times when they didn't leave anything except for some water. I was really hungry those times. Those were the days I stayed up, and heard my parents get home. I pretended to be asleep so they wouldn't get angry at me for staying up. I learned that my mom would sometimes come up and check on me for a few seconds. I haven't actually talked to them, ever.
Anyway, back on to the subject of my classmates. I don't get to hang out with them much, for I usually go to this special room with a couple other fillies and colts. We don't usually go to the other classrooms. We get to go there maybe 2 times a a week, sometimes 3 times a week. There are times where we don't go to school. The other fillies and colts call them breaks.
I remember one really warm day when there was no school, I had awoken to see my mom home. I didn't move towards her. She kind of just lay on her bed. She was curled up. She looked as if she was crying. I wanted to go near her, but my gut told me not to. I think she heard me, for she uncurled for a minute. She then turned to face me, and she was indeed crying. She said a few words, they were: "Go back into the Kitchen.."
I did as she told, and walked out of her room. I glanced back to see she had curled up again, and rolled over so I couldn't see her face. I got really scared. I didn't eat that day,
