The Rise of the Batponies

After Flutterbat is successfully defeated, her friends go home to get a good nights rest. But Fluttershy, alone in her cottage, can't seem to fall asleep. As she tosses and turns in her bed, an alluring smell hits her nose. It's sweet, succulent, and is coming from her bunny Angel.

An instinct is rising within her. An instinct that will drive Equestria into war. Battles will be fought, lives will be lost, and leaders will fall. Will the power of friendship prevail? Or will it become forever lost in pony legend?

This is the Rise of the Batponies.

Note: The prologue and the first five chapters are written in present tense and in first person. After that the rest of the story is written in past tense and in third person. It is suppose to be this way so please don't comment about how it changed.

Prologue: The Beginning

"Goodnight Fluttershy." Twilight says to me as she walks to the front door. "Are you sure you'll be alright? I know that change must have taken a lot out of you."

"N-No, I'm fine Twilight." I whisper to her. "Thank you for saving me."

My friend smiles as she nods her head. "Anything for a friend. We'll see you soon."

As the door closes, I let out a sigh of relief. My hooves are achy and I need to rest. And while I love seeing my best friends, they can sometimes be too much to handle. Even if they are the ones saving my life.

I make my way up the stairs, my pet bunny Angel at my heels. "You must be exhausted as well, huh Angel?"

The only response from him is a pull at my mane as he climbs up onto my back.

I roll over under my sheets and readjust myself for the hundredth time. A frustrated breath escapes me as I slam my head into my pillow. "Why can't I sleep?" the question goes unanswered in my darkened room.

It must have been hours since I climbed into bed, but every time I check the clock on my nightstand only two or three minutes have passed. I haven't been this restless since I was a little filly at flight camp.

"Angel?" I ask into the darkness. A-Are you awake?"

Silence is the only thing that answers.

Sighing, I get up to go to the kitchen. Maybe some warm milk will help me sleep. I think as I descend the stairs.

I open my fridge and grab the milk. As I pull a cup from one of the many cabinets in my kitchen, a scent hits me. It's sweet, almost like the smell of Sugar Cube Corner. Placing my glass down I sniff around the room, trying to find where this beautiful smell is coming from.

I find myself walking up the stairs. Strange. . .I don't think I left any food up stairs. I wonder as I walk into my room. It's coming from. . .

Angel?

Leaning down next to his body, I take a small sniff. An involuntary moan escapes me as the smell engulfs my nostrils; I lick my lips involuntarily as well.

"O-Ow." Something scratches my tongue.

I lift a hoof up and touch my teeth. Gasping, I realize what it is. Fangs! B-But I thought-

Angel turns in his sleep, taking a deep breath as he does so. The sent meets with me again and draws my closer.

N-No. I can't. . . An instinct is rising within me. It's telling me to eat. To hunt. To kill. No! I won't! Practically running backwards, I slam into the wall and fall to the ground. I hold my head with my hooves and start the internal battle with myself.

I won't hurt Angel. I won't!

But don't you want to live? If you don't eat, Futtershy, you'll die.

I'd rather die than hurt any of my animals. . .

. . .would you? Would you really?

I look up, my night vision suddenly sharper. The body of the bunny is sleeping calmly on the end of my bed. He looks so peaceful. So. . .tasty.

One bite wouldn't hurt, would it?

My body stands up and makes its way over to the bed, sniffing in the sent of Angel the entire way.

It's only a bunny. You have dozens more that you could replace him with.

Instinct takes over and I lean down over the little animal. Opening my maw, I lick his back, taking in his taste. Then I bite. I bite down hard, feeling a few ribs crack beneath me. Ignoring his sudden screams, I drink in his succulent blood, moaning as I do.

"F-Fluttershy!" He squeaks out.

Pulling back I rip a chunk out of his chest. I chew up the mix of bone and flesh while I watch the bunny go limp. A laugh escapes me as I swallow the bloody mixture. I bite the body again, this time in the neck, and continue to drain the body. It doesn't take long because of how small the body is.

Leaving the now cold bunny, I walk over to the mirror on the back of my door. Blood is dripping from my chin and my wings have taken a more bat like shape. Stretching my wings out, I shake off the last couple of feathers and I blink;My eyes have gone red.

Flutterbat is back and this time she wont be taken down so easily, the instinct chuckles from within me.

I turn from the mirror and walk to my window. I need more food. More blood. More meat. Pushing the glass open, I lean out of the window and take a deep breath. The sweet scent is multiplied by the multiple animals on my property. I can't kill them all, but I can take a few lives.

Falling down from my window, I begin my small scale massacre. And I don't stop until the sun comes up to greet me.
