This time I might just disappear

I woke up, it was still dark, but then again this room was dark when I came into it so i have no idea what time it was. I looked into the mirror, hoping I looked like myself. I didn’t, i let out an annoyed groan and noticed my hair was out, “I wonder.” I did the hair sweep

“Sweetness. But it sucks really.”

“What praytell sucks?” I heard a new voice.

I turned my head, just my head to look at the entrance, in it stood a dark blue Alicorn, that's what the winged and horned ponies were called I learned from the guard, which is the only question of mine he answered. “And you are?”

She stood tall and proud, I am getting the strangest sense of deja vu, “I am Princess Luna, ruler of the moon and the night, protector of all inhabitants that dwell in the darkness and shadow. Co-ruler of Equestria, second under my sister.”

I gave her a confused look before it clicked, “Oh right, your sister told me you wanted to see me. Wait if you rule over the night and you’re awake, then it's still night time?“

“Indeed, though you did not answer our question.”

“What? Oh right, what sucks? Well i don’t know if your sister told you anything but I was essentially ripped from my home. I mean it’s not that big of a deal. i was an only child so no siblings and I haven’t talked ot my parents in about 3 years, nothing bad happened, we’re just living our own lives. Most of my friends drifted away into their own lives as well and I didn’t have any pets. i think the only person that’d miss me was my boss.”

“You didn’t have a lover and why would only your boss miss you?” She asked.

“Probably because i was her best worker, and no I didn’t have a lover. been single for 6 years now.” I shrugged, “I enjoy my space.”

She frowned, “Well thats not a good thing, surely people would start to panic after a while since you’ve gone missing right?”

I scratched my head, didn’t think of that, “Yeah I suppose they would… hmm but I might just be put up as one of those missing person things. its actually been happening a lot, always to people who go to conventions like I did…. no way. No fucking way,did they all meet the merchant too? there were over 100 missing people last I heard.”

“Are you saying that over one hundred more people could be on Equus right now? or start appearing on Equus?” Luna asked.

I shook my head, “I’m not sure maybe, I mean if they did wouldn’t they be here before me? I mean I wasn’t the first to be taken. Maybe it doesn’t matter when you were taken because whatever we get sent through ops us out at different times? Or they could end up in other worlds, who knows.”

“We see, well we shall Inform our sister when we can.”

“Alright, hey why do you use the royal we and our and stuff?”

She blushed slightly, “Ah well, it’s a long story but lets just say its left over form adapting to modern times. May i ask you a question?”

“Sure go ahead, and have a seat, I don’t really need to.”

She sat down on the bed, “Thank you, but did you realize you have a very dark force within yourself?”

I gave her the nest deadpanned look i could, no pun intended, “Luna, I’m a ghost who solely wanted revenge on and old friend because I thought he killed me and I feel way angrier than I ever have. I’m pretty sure I have a dark force within me.”

“While that is very interesting, It’s not what we meant, it feels very familiar, please do not let it gain control over you. We fear the harm you might cause and we sense no malicious intent from you but darkness does things to even the best of us and we’d hate to be forced to put you down, And while you are already technically a dark force it doesn’t mean you aren’t good remember that.”

I let that sink in, a dark force that isn’t already me, “I’ll try my best to not be overcome but whatever force you sense.”

She stood up and stretched, “Good, ah the sun will be rising in a few minutes, we better go and finish a few things. your departure will be at 10 or clock, it is currently 6:45, if you need something to occupy your time we suggest the guards. It was nice meeting you and remember what we said.” with that she departed to wherever.

“The guards huh?” I got a wicked idea, “Well now would be a good time to test out what I can do I do have 3 hours to spare.”

~3hours later~

I laughed as I floated down the hall after scaring another guard, “Oh that was fun, who knew I could do so much stuff.” Apparently I could do a lot of things since I was a ghost. Outside of being able to go through things, i could turn myself invisible, control objects, possess certain ones even multiple at one since they had no sentience to them. But when It came to actual living creatures with higher brain functions like the ponies i could only possess them in 2 ways. One was at a distance but it was very limited. Say if they had a goal like going to the bathroom I couldn’t make them change their goal but I could make them go about it differently, like to make them take the long way around or go to a completely different bathroom as long as their goal stayed the same, couldn’t even have in between goals. Now a full body possession I could do well everything with them, make them stop going to the bathroom and go get a sandwich, stuff like that. Stronger willed ponies are harder to take over obviously, tried it with Celestia, got it for all of 2 seconds before I got booted out. Another thing is if it went completely against their moral code, like a guard killing an innocent bystander I couldn’t make them do that. don’t ask man, I was bored and wanted to see what I could do.

Some side effects to that were while I was in fullbody possession they’d have all the weird possessy stuff happen to them ,like being able to climb walls and crap, I tried not to do that, it was creepy. In both types they’d completely forget everything that happened 5 minutes before and after while also having no memory of between. They’d be heavily drained of energy, which is apparently how i fueled myself, but since energy and magic are one in the same in this world i could just drain it from the air because that shit is everywhere. Now I’d also be drained but not as much as they would be unless it was someone like Celestia, that seriously drained me of almost all my energy. Also one more power is that I could read the minds of whoever I’m possessing whether it be full or partial if I so choose to. Did it by complete accident with one of the guards and the things he thinks about are…. I shivered, if you can creep out a ghost you need to go to therapy. There were more but I’ll leave that for a later date, it was time for me to head to Ponyville, but first a prank!

I turned invisible and floated into the room where I was supposed to meet everyone and lo and behold they were all there, no doubt Celestia could sense me though, She quickly glanced up and smirked, yep definitely could.

“It’s good to see everyone is here.” Celestia said.

“Not everyone Princess, where’s that James guy?” Rainbow asked.

“Oh I’m sure he’ll be here.” She said with a smile.

While she was looking around I spread myself out across the room possessing any object that could be lifted from the ground.

“Well he needs to be here soon, I need to get back to my shop, i have orders to fill out and he needs to get his room set up.” Rarity said impatiently and at that point one of the small candles next to Celestia’s throne flew past her and everyone else. “W-what was that?”

Twilight was immediately on alert and the rest of the girls followed through while Celestia did her part and acted surprised, “I don’t know but I saw it too, be on alert girls, if it's something dangerous we need to protect the princess.”

Oooh I guess that means it's time to go all out, ehehe. I made the objects fly about the room randomly, the candles, the stacks of papers, the candelabras, made the chandelier that was on the ceiling swing to and fro, made the curtains move wildly and since Celestia’s throne was a tad bit too heavy with myself split like this I just made it rock angrily, even made the stained glass windows rattle. All the while emitting an echoing laughter.

“Alright alright that’s enough” Celestia said through a smile.

“Aww you’re no fun I was just getting started.” I put everything back to how it was and popped into existence in front of the girls, “Howdy.” Celestia giggled.

The girls looked so confused and then exceptionally angry, “What that… what?!” they all yelled simultaneously, except Fluttershy, she was passed out.

“Was just a prank, sorry, one of you might want to wake Fluttershy up, have things to do chop chop.” I was still grinning, well i could tell i was, actually im pretty sure you could through my eyes too

“We’ll talk about this later, but first how are we going to get him on the train Princess?” Twilight asked.

“Yeah, it’s not like we can exactly bring him aboard, ponies are bound to either freak out or be scared.” Apple Jack said.

“I wouldn’t worry too much about that, I’m pretty sure he can take care of that himself.” Celestia said with no explanation.

“Oh my, did I fall asleep, I’m so sorry, oh Mr. James, when did you get here?”

I shook my head and tried not to laugh, “A few minutes ago.”

“Alright, now that Fluttershy is awake, can we get a move on please?” Rainbow asked.

“Of course, it was good seeing you again Princess.” Twilight nuzzled against her teacher.

“Same to you twilight, you should visit more often.”

“I will.” She turned and led her friends out of the throne room I went to follow before Celestia stopped me.

“James please try to keep the pranks down to a minimum.”

“No promises.” she gave me a serious look, “Ok ok, I’ll try, but I have a feeling you wanted to talk to me about something else.”

“I did, Luna told me what you told her last night, and I don’t know if more of your kind will end up here, but I have this bad feeling. And if any of them do, I need you to greet them, and if they’re bad I need you to help defend the ponies of this land.”

“Me? But…. i don’t know, i was never really a fighter, I did take some self defense classes but that's about it.”
“Please, the girls are strong, Luna and I are too, but I feel that the things that are to come can only be stopped by you. Please.”

I sighed realizing I didn’t have much choice, “Alright I will, i mean i’m stuck here and I’d rather not have my home be a graveyard so i’ll do what I can.”

“Thank you.” She nuzzled me.

Not sure if I could blush but if I could I would be showing it, “Y-yeah, no problem, well I gotta go, don’t wanna miss the train. See ya.” I left to go find the girls.

“Please visit!” She called after me.

Now where aha, there they are. oh they’re already getting on the train. I turned invisible and went through the train wall, looking for a pony to possess. Let’s see… oh you’ll do. I stopped and concentrated until I felt a connection and let myself follow it, when my vision cleared I was now sitting in the same cart as the girls. “Off to Ponyville to start my new life.” I said with a deep breath.
